I am a huge fan of the original Altra Timp and Timp 1.5, men's size 7, which was JUST long enough and wide enough to fit my foot. I normally wear 7.5 in most shoes, but the 8s in these were too big. I also loved the arch and overall ride of the earlier Timps. However, the Timp 2.0 was too narrow and unwearable for me. The Timp 3.0 is not the same shoe as either, IMO. It feels a bit wider than the 2.0, but I needed to size it up to an 8 for to sole to be the same width as my Timp 1.5s. So now it is just a tad too long and bit looser in the heeel but nearly the same width as the size 7 in the older models. It also feels a bit softer and lacks the heel wedge and the aggressive lugs. I wear these to walk on pavement mostly so the lugs were kind of in my way anyhow and I don't need the locked-in heel. The Timp 3.0 has less pronounced lugs and a full outsole instead of the soft spots of the 1.5 that allow rocks to poke through once in a while, which I think is an improvement. All in all, kind of a return to the shape and ride of the earlier Timps, but a far less aggressive trail runner if that's what your after. More of a casual sneaker with a little bit of tread. I haven't put many walking miles on them, but them seem like they'll treat my feet (and lower back) in the good way the early Timps did.

They remind me of the old Superior (2.5) which I loved. Fast shoe with enough cushion. Not as much the Timp 2 but good.

I walk a lot and they are very comfortable. I especially like the wide toe area. My toes do not feel pushed together.

I have two pairs of the Timps 2 and these fit the same but much lighter. I love them! I'm buying a second pair now.

The last Timps I ran in were version 1. I didn't like those at all and stayed away from Altra until recently. Took a gamble on these with the delamination issue. I got to say, these are some of the best shoes that I have ran in. My feet aren't aching, my legs feel really fresh, and I've been running almost daily in these. They feel like they may be a half size too big, but going down a half size, they may be too small. I don't have really wide feet, but my toes have plenty of room to splay out. I have also been running in the Olympus 4 as well and I prefer the Timp 3's. I have no complaints about the grip so far, I still need to try them out in sloppy PNW muddy trails once the rain comes back. Overall, I really enjoy running in these shoes and I plan on getting more once this pair craps out.

Bought this as a do it all workout shoe. Use it for gym, walking, running, hiking. Fits better than nike- was tired of all their woke stuff so glad I found a suitable replacement.

This has been my go to shoe since the Timp 2 came out. The 1.5 was too wide for me, so LP was my go to until this came out. I have a low-volume foot but slightly wider forefoot. This shoe works well for my foot shape. Narrower feet will like this shoe. Wide feet, probably not so much. Size comparison with other Altras: It does run slightly short compared to LP and Olympus, FYI. I just ran R2R2R in Grand Canyon and Zion 100 in the same pair and they were flawless. No issues, no blisters. Definitely my favorite trail shoe right now. Giddyup.

Hats off to Altra for listening to customer feedback regarding the prior TIMP 2.5 model. The TIMP 3s have all the positives of the original TIMPs and none of the issues that were present for the 2.5 model. Plenty of room, good traction and cushioning. My feet are happy again. I usually wear a 12 and ordered 12.5 based on recommendation on the site. They are roomy and likely would have been OK with a 12 but if you like room, go the extra 1/2 size up.

The Timp 3 was my first pair of Altra's. I have been a snob of another brand for years owning many pairs of sneakers for different occasions. Upon realizing the God of victory didn't do well on our hikes I decided to buy a dedicated pair of hiking shoes. Now I should preface that I am not a runner, we take hikes to enjoy nature and some family time. I typically wear the same pair of daily sneakers that are well broke in and have large air cushions from heel to toe. When we got back from our first 5 mile hike I threw on my old standbys that have been so comfortable for years and all of the sudden they felt horrible. Altra's have changed what I feel is comfortable in a shoe. So much so that today I bought my second pair of Altra's (Torin 4.5s) for my new all day sneaker. I marked them narrow as others have complained about their narrowness and width wise they don't feel different from the god of victory brand. The toe box however is much wider and appreciated. I can't compare these to prior Timps as I'm new to Altra's but if reviews state prior versions were even better, I can't wait for my next pair.

Wanted to write a review based on the perspective of a guy with a narrower foot. I think Altra nailed the latest update to the Timp with version 3. I tested these out in my local neighborhood on a mix of dirt, mud, snow, ice, and pavement, and I think they perform exactly as intended. I kept the same size as my Timp 2, which were good for about 300 miles (I had to size down 1/2 in the LP5). Would I like more mileage? Sure. But I wore these over all kinds of gnarly peaks and terrain in the Colorado backcountry and they performed admirably. Time will tell if the 3 holds up longer, but for now that is worth the trade off for such an amazing fit. Tread and cushion feel the same. The overlays and toe protection seem beefier to prevent the Timp 2 wear spots. The tongue is longer and a bit more comfortable with a handy lace keeper. The mesh feels more flexible. And there was just enough more room in the toe box to make this shoe a winner for me. Not everyone who appreciates a foot-shaped shoe needs something ultra wide. That being said, Altra is doing a great job trying to appease all customers across the spectrum of feet. Especially in the Lone Peak 5 with the wide version. Maybe future updates to more Altra models will lean that way? Keep up the great work guys!

I use for walking, easy jogs, day hikes, light gym use and all around town and country beaters. Lighter, tighter, more durable and more padded compared to my experience with lone peaks (have had at least 8 pairs). If lone peaks too harsh, too heavy and too floppy in the toe box, give these a try. They look good too (for altras).

My runs typically involve a mix of road and trail so I really appreciate how well this shoe handles both. It has enough cushion for me to enjoy 20+ miles road runs and the lugs are adequate for very steep and loose trails. The toebox is a little too wide for me however I can mitigate the issue by adding rock plates. The rest of the shoe fits great and hasn't caused chafing for me.

I'm just getting back into running and wanted a shoe with a bit of extra cushioning for my trails. The Timp 3 fits my foot well and is comfortable. I know the shoe was a good choice when I want to keep running even though I'm done my planned route. I did have some delamination on the side reinforcement material after just 50K. So I broke out the Shoe Goo. Hopefully the rest of the shoe holds up better. I'll post up another review when the Timp 3 is worn out. The Timp 3 doesn't have a rock guard, but the cushioning is thick enough to make it comfortable on my rocky terrain. The shoe is shallow enough I can't use my standard after-market orthotics. That said they have been fine using the stock insoles so I am just going to keep using them and see what happens. When I tie my laces the lace keeper elastic is too far down the tongue to reach the laces. They are quite flexible with minimal structure. On technical scrambling sections my feet move around a lot inside them. For my trails that's okay as I can run most of the time, but if I had to do more scrambling I'd need a different shoe. Assuming the durability issues don't continue I'd buy another Timp 3. They make my feet happy and that's the most important thing. Thanks for making great shoes Altra! Keep working on the durability and I'll keep buying 'em!

These things are/feel amazing....if you're not planning on running more than 50 miles. I destroyed the first pair after two runs. The glue came undone. Sent them back. Blew up the 2nd pair in 4 runs.

Used these for 185 miles on the Tahoe rim trail. I Sized up a full size and this made them feel similar to the timp 1.5. Overall they were very comfy and my feet felt great the whole trail. As for durability, They started delaminating on the sides within the first mile and about 50 miles in the tow cap started peeling off. This did not effect performance however. Aside from aesthetics I anticipate these to last about 40 miles before needing replacement.

This version of the Timp feels longer than the Timp 2. In the 2, a size 12.5 (my typical Altra size) was a little short. With the 3, a size 12 fits well (the 12.5 was too long for me) Once you find your size, you will find the cushioning comfortable to run in

The tongue is is a step backwards when compared to last year's model, the laces are not at elastic, and the midsole needs more bounce. Seems like the 2 had more energy return. I like the soft foam around the toe rather than a plastic. I'll be hoping these issues are solve for the next version

The style feels shallow in the vamp and medial side around the arch. Left shoe upper welding is detaching and going to request a return. Midsole and outsole are great.
