Roomy width and feel similar to Altra's of old. Not sure what percentage of trail runner shoe users utilize lightweight gaiters, but I have for years, even at the workplace. Perhaps the thinking is that mid height shoes don't need twig, leaf, dirt and small rock protection from getting in the shoe, but that is certainly not the case where we live. When ordering, I should not have assumed they were set up for gaiters. I can place adhesive velcro at the lower back end of the heel, the way we used Dirty Girl gaiters (Dang!) before Altra got into them.
Having worn out the previous model of these shoes (RSM), it is not expected that the (quite good) water resistance will last the life of the shoe. Above the metatarsals/phalanges joint, flexing and abrasion of the shoes makes 'cracks' that eventually allow some water in, but it is still better than conventional footwear at minimizing infiltration.
If like me, you've had a dozen or so Altra's and don't really find any other brands offering all of these features. You know that they are expensive and are not particularly long lasting. And woe to those who continue wearing worn out or non-protective Altra shoes in rocky terrain. I've got the serious rock bruises to show for it. Lightweight shoes are a compromise, yet worth it for many of us.

Love this boot, even more secure feeling than the lone peak shoe. I purchased this all weather version to keep my socks dry when walking through wet grass; however, they quickly began to allow moisture inside and after they get wet, your feet stay wet all day due to the liner. I'd recommend just getting the regular version.

I have had 10 plus pairs of altras and they all fall apart way faster than any other shoe I own. I have remained loyal thinking that altra will make the newer versions more durable. Won't buy again.

Comfortable but they don't seem to be constructed as well as I would hope. They are also not waterproof and make popping noises as I walk, like the plastic outers are clicking and popping as they flex. Already seeing delamination of the outer materials after less than a month of wear. The most disappointing Altras I have owned.

I normally wear a size 12 in all other Altra's I've owned but in these I had to step up to a size 12.5. They're comfortable but they make popping noises as I walk, I think it's the plastic pieces on the sides of the shoe making that noise? Those same areas are also already coming unglued after just a couple of weeks of wear. They seem to be made mostly out of plastic? Again, very comfortable but they don't seem to breath very well.

This is my second pair. The first stopped being waterproof because the outside material cracked in several places and began to peel away. Altra graciously sen me a second pair. In the interim the shoe had been slightly redesigned and was a lot easier to put on and take off because the top two lace loops had been replaced with hooks, so easy to pull the opening wider, for getting your foot in, and easier to quickly unlace. But I just got back from a long walk in snowy woods, maybe the first time in the year since I've had them that I've really challenged the waterproof quality, and my socks are quite soaked. You really can't call these waterproof.

These feel narrower in the toes than other lone peaks (I have owned three other pairs and the other three always felt identical). Since toe room is the main reason I buy Altra shoes, this is very disappointing.
Additionally the lack of a gaiter trap and lack of a hook or exposed lace at the bottom if the lacing means that these don't work with Altra gaiters or other lightweight gaiters and the lack of a boot heel means they don't work with heavier gaiters, making them less useful for snow than my previous Lone Peak RSMs that these replaced. The fact that they have a very solid seal around the ankle decreases snow coming into the snow and partially makes up for this, though.

I purchased a pair of your Lone Peak All-weather Mid, and fell. Immediately in love. They were by far the most comfortable and light hiking shoe I have every had the pleasure of using. The first long hike I did in them was a shoulder season, wet and muddy 7 day hike and they were perfect! After that hike I raved about the shoe to everyone who would listen.
However, the durability of this shoe is not what I had hoped it would be. I had three other hiking trips that summer for a total of 20 hiking days, and before the end of those 20 days I was getting holes in the lateral toe box in both shoes, right where the extra weather protection for the toe box meets the mid foot. I thought this might have just been the singular pair of shoes, but I have met other hikers with the exact same issue. While I am in love with the shoe, I don't think it holds up as a 'thru-hikers shoe', as it doesn't have the durability that one might expect. For reference, I started seeing a degradation of the shoe after less than 200kms. This seems on par, or even better, than some of the hikers I have met.

I've gone through two pairs of these shoes. They are comfortable but have big QC issues. The tread/soles wear quickly, the WTHR proofing DOES NOT hold up and narrow due to the WTHR proofing layer.

I purchased this hiking boot based on a pair of Lone Peak 6 trail shoes I owned, and I loved how roomy the toe box is.
However, this Lone Peak all-weather does feel very tight at the base of toe, while the shape does match the trail running shoe I think it's the top that has reduced circumference that caused the tightness. I found removing the insole help returning to the original feel, but this is really not how it should be wore.
I don't know if the manufacturer tried to save cost, or this is due to quality control.
While the shape in 2D may match Lone Peak, the room is definitely smaller.

I tried two different pairs of this shoe and returned them both. Extremely comfortable but the material used across the top of the foot crinkled and popped for every step. It was not a subtle noise but distinct and very noticeable. Customer support said no one ever complained about this but after trying 2 different pair the problem is not an exception. Altra seems to have issues with the fabric/material used on some of their shoes as I have encountered various problems over the years and I no longer buy certain models. Must be too hard to figure this out I guess.

These ultra running and hiking shoes, for the most part, are great. They really help me out with my neuropathy after back surgery. The only problem I have with them is that the entire soul breaks down to soon, before it is worn out. They lose the conservative amount of cushion that they are made with fairly quickly. But I will keep buying and recommending them.

I still have my wonderful Altra's from a few years ago when putting them together, soul to soul, the new Altra's are about 1/3 of an inch narrower in the toe box. I can't believe Altra would allow this to happen! The "embrace the space" and "feel the altra difference" slogans no longer apply to their footwear. How could they get away from what made them so great.

I have the Lone Peak trail runners and thought the same size would suit me for this soft boot. My mistake for taking them out onto a major hike without testing them on a shorter, easier one. Over the course of two days, I hiked over 20 miles, backpacking part of it. Because of the material, these have no extra give when my feet perspired. I banged my big toes with every step which became painful and slowed my hiking pace. I even tried wearing them without the insole to no avail. These also felt more narrow, not the roomy toe box I enjoy. The good about this is that they were waterproof and withstood some banging from scrambling up and down Mount Williamson. I sent the shoes back and am tempted to order again in a bigger size but not sure if I should do half or a full size up.

The fit of this shoe is perfect EXCEPT for one very important thing: the footbed design. There is a distinct RISE to the area of the footbed under the lateral / outer edge of the forefoot, meaning the forefoot does not rest flat, but is pushed up at the outer edge. There is the feeling of resistant, as if a piece of material was wadded up and placed under the insole just behind the smaller toes. This causes weight to be shifted inward toward the arch of the foot and back toward the heel -- effectively creating a 'negative drop' situation. It causes a feeling of not being totally balanced when standing and walking. When I walk with these shoes I feel my feet being pushed into pronation by the RAISED outer part of the footbed. I already overpronate so for me this is a problem. They are unwearable. I experience the same thing with the regular Lonepeak 6, and to a lesser extent, the Superior 5. PLEASE CORRECT THIS DESIGN!

Took what was essentially a brand new pair of these to Philmont Scout Ranch for a 12 day trek. Came back with the sloes falling off.

I used this shoe walking the Camino in Spain. 1/3 of the way the cloth on the outsides of the toe box started to weaken and tear. Bummer! I needed more cushion for day after day walking on the changing terrain. I love the toe box and the high top shoe. For a high top it is very light.

I loved the old LonePeak hiking boots and sorely wish that Altra never changed to the new pattern. I am going to keep the boots I bought because there's nothing else that comes close to its width, but for the life of me I cannot imagine why on earth they had the notion to try to improve on something that didn't need improving. I read tons of review and they all say the same thing I am saying. The old was wider, softer, more comfortable. The new one is more stiff, not as wide and not as comfortable. The old adage of if it ain't broke, don't fix it should have been practiced. I am frustrated and disgusted that a product that worked well was dabbled with and is now a lesser quality. A total disgrace.

After a few uses, I came to the realization my OBOZ are better. I definitely recommend them over the Altra hiking boots.

I love the shoe, but they are just not true to size. My toes rub on the front and the width at the wide part of my foot is way too tight. My feet are sore when I take these off after a hike.

I wear Altra's almost exclusively because I have Hobbit feet and they are by far the most comfortable shoes for me. These Loan Peaks are very disappointing. There are a million other outdoor shoes out there, Altra's niche is being wide with a huge toes box. They are not very durable but I love the comfort of Altra's. These shoes missed the mark as they are WAY too narrow, in the mid foot especially. When shoe makers list (added support) to the shoe description that is a red flag to fellow Hobbits that the shoes have been narrowed:( I settled on Dunham Cloud waterproof for comfort.

These are almost the perfect boots for me. However even after going a full size up to accommodate how narrow they are, my toes still rub up against the sides of the shoe as I walk. If I were to go up another half size, I fear I'd be getting to the point where I'd be tripping over them, which I really do not want out of a shoe I am wearing in the backcountry. Sadly these were somehow the widest shoes at the REI where I got them. I don't understand why Altra no longer makes shoes for people who need wide toeboxes. Aside from the being far too narrow for my feet issue, these shoes would be perfect. I normally hike in lone peaks and wanted something I could wear through the winter, since mesh and long walks in the snow don't really go together imho. These have so far proven to be waterproof and aside from the toe issue they feel great when I hike. As is I put a shoe stretcher in them whenever I am not wearing them, cranked up as wide as it can get. I really don't know what else to do. Altra, please, please, please release a wide version of these, I am begging you!

I don't like the smaller diameter than all previous versions laces. They're thin and don't have a good feel. I'm not a fan of the hooks on the top two eyelets but I understand the reasoning. When you walk in them it feels like walking in rubber boots. And it makes a very audible noise when walking for the first little bit. Curious as to how long till that goes away.
