Like many others, I loved my Lone Peak 4. I'm on my third pair. These boots are way too narrow. I'm going to go try a size bigger, but I know they will feel too long. Altra, listen to us: We need the Wide Toe Box! Please bring it back.

Been using Lone Peaks for years. The new mid has some improvements but also some minor flaws. I bought the all weather mid and lows and both are very good at keeping the water out but I believe this comes at a cost. My feet remain dry but I'm thinking the new EVent makes for a stiffer area in the heal. Not a deal breaker but just not as much cushion as in previous models. I wear a size 10.5 and have about 50 miles on the boot and the low all weather so I'd say each has been broken in yet they still feel a bit more snug than previous models. I think getting a half size larger in these new models would be the way to go also toe box feels a bit narrower, not by much but you can notice a difference. The major standouts to me are the wear points; normally previous lone peaks would wear a crease near the pinky toe by now but I think with the added material to that flex zone has helped fix this issue(so far). Also the eye hooks for the laces as opposed to the eyelets makes removal of the shoe much easier.

This appears to be the next generation of the Lone Peak Mid RSM (rain, snow, mud). There are some key differences which depending on your preferences could be positive or negative. Altra is definitely moving in the direction of a narrower toe box on this edition (3-4mm narrower)still wide enough for my feet, and wide in general, but departing from that trademark feeling of extra generous space. The second thing I noticed almost immediately was a little less stability in the heal. The previous Lone Peak had a heal platform that flared outward distinctly wider than the sidewalls of the shoe, whereas this new model is more narrow. The new laces are slimmer and more smooth, making them much easier to lace up evenly! The outer material, especially around the toe box, looks to be more durable and better designed to handle bending and flexing without deterioration. The ankle of the shoe comes slightly higher I think, and is a little less padded. Sizing seems about the same, maybe a tad smaller. Overall the shoe feels less bulky and more a part of your foot. Other than the appearance of better durability, I would say this shoe is less like a pure upgrade, and more like a slightly different kind of shoe. Some will like it more. Some will like it less.

The previous version of these shoes were my favorite shoes ever. I have purchased four pair and still have all of them. One pair is still new in the box and the others are in different stages of wear. I have put easily 500 miles hiking in the rockies with them and they are great! Please go back to the old version. The gaiter traps are a must in the backcountry. I modified my gaiters to work with the velcro on the back being that these shoes have no heels to accommodate heel straps. The front hook rings are a must. The sides where the toe crease occurs is a weak point that should be addressed but other than that I have no complaints other than the fact that Altra changed, for the worst, an amazing backpacking shoe. Again please go back to the old style so that I can buy four more pairs.

First time out I walked about six miles in them. And they were awesome! I'm impressed with how light they are while still providing plenty of support in my arch and for my ankle. I wore them around the house a bit before taking them out and I was a little concerned that my big toe was rubbing the end. Turns out that I was feeling the rubber toe cap and I had the laces on the top of my foot too loose so I was sliding forward in them. Once I fixed that, the only other issue was tying the ankle too tightly and having a little discomfort - but that was 100% user error/learning.
I really like the zero drop. It has improved my posture and I feel extremely stable on all kinds of surfaces.
Little easter egg: They leave a really cool impression in sand/mud :)

Definitely enjoying these shoes. I've punished them with holes in Bryce Canyon and Zion. They've held up great and left me with no blisters.

I am the happy owner of several pair of Altra shoes. I bought these to wear for winter walks in November. However these boots are NOT safe on ice. For the first time in decades, I slipped and fell dangerously on ice and snow while wearing them. Walking on even level ice is impossible when it's never been for me in the past. I have lived in the extreme winter conditions most of my life. I chalked it up to a weird winter. Then today I again happened to wear my Lone Peaks and could not even dare to put one foot on anything icy, but when I switched to my Paradigms, LO! my traction of old was restored. I am sure any of my shoes or boots have better traction than the Lone Peaks. These boots are very light, comfortable, (though not warm) and likely great for some other use. But not icy or snowy winter.

The prior version of this shoe was my favorite hiking shoe ever. I wore them everywhere for everything from running to mountaineering (as high as possible). Super comfortable. The only issue was the glue on the soles near the toes. I was excited to try this more rugged model, but it was a big mistake. I almost sent them back when I tried them on because the sole felt funny, but I decided after walking around a bit that it might settle (it did, kinda - caused a lot of blisters first). I also noticed that my toes hit the front and sides in this shoe more often and did not in the prior version of the same size. Despite this I had a big hike coming up and didn't have time to get a new shoe and because I loved the old ones so much though I'd use these. Walking around town didn't seem so bad. This was a big mistake, but for something unexpected. The reason is that the hard rubber on the front of the shoe causes the material to bend inward and hit the top of your toes when you step. It wasn't that noticeable at first, but after a few hours I noticed my toes hurt, even though the my toes were not hitting the front of the shoe. After the first 11 miles I took my shoes off and all of my middle toes were swollen and purple and the most bruised I've ever had. I was hobbling. Not to mention big blisters on the bottom of my toes for the first time ever. But it's the way that hard rubber causes the material to bend inward and hit the tops of your toes that is the true design flaw. the material hardness differences are too great. It's sad that my favorite shoe experience turned into my worst with the model update. I really wish I could get the old ones still. I can't recommend these at all.

I have been a committed Altra buyer for more than a decade. I need a wide shoe, with the classic Altra toe box. Not sure what the mindset was in greatly narrowing this version but it left my right foot numb five minutes after putting it on- I did not even get the left one out of the box. This shoe seems to run contrary to the stated mindset of wide toe box, natural running, etc. I can only conclude the decision was made to try and sell more shoes by appealing to more traditional shoe owners. Bad decision in my opinion. Any more of this and I will unfortunately be searching for a new shoe company. Don't waste your time if you have wide feet like I do and need the width that Altra has historically provided.

I wear my boots to walk my dogs in the woods and on trails. They are so comfortable and plenty of room in the to let my toes spread out beyond comfortable. They breath well, great on wet day, the drop is fantastic.

I normally wear a size 10 1/2 in low top Lone Peak. The size 11 in weather proof mid fits perfect. I hike in Salt Lake City Mountains weekly and backpack in Wind Rivers and Uintas 2-3 times a year. These boots are comfortable and supportive with good traction. I'm usually on trail with a 40 # pack. The fabric is thin up top and not "waterproof" but I can get 1 year of use out of a pair. I stocked up on 3 more pair as I love this boot. Altra keeps changing and some versions just don't work for me. This one is great!

The show fit well and is super lightweight. The toe box is super wide, which I guess is part of the Altra thing. I am still adjusting to that wide toebox, but I think it'll be great.

This shoe is smaller than my other Altras. It is a unique boot, never had one like this before. It is waterproof, comfy, easy to put on and off and perfect for walking the dog and I recently discovered playing softball in wet grass and mud it is ideal. I can even run in them. The real ? here is how long will they last. They look sort of flimsy.

Narrow heel ,wide forefoot, no irritating artificial arch, easy secure lacing, sole as good as Vibram, waterproof. I have been frustrated for years, finally found the brand designed for my feet.

These running shoes are so warm and so comfortable, they almost felt like I didn't even need to wear them in. They keep my feet warm and dry on muddy runs. If you're thinking about getting these for your winter runs, I'd say take the leap.

I'm on my 3rd pair of these shoes and never really thought I cared to have *water proof* shoes. I only wear them on trails and normally there is snow on the ground. While they don't keep my feet warm they do keep them pretty dry. The weight of these shoes are also pretty light and make them rather nimble too. I think the durability of the *water proofing" seems to wear out. They are comfortable and I do really like these when the weather is a mess outside.

I had some hesitation buying these as some reviews suggested they were narrower than previous versions but I found they were the same fit as my previous lone peak regulars. The mids are prividing the extra support i need and i love how easy they are to tie. They are also warmer than i expected and wearing them more frequently than i anticipated. They are by far the most comfortable hikers I've ever owned. Love them.

This is my 3rd pair. I forgot to bring a pair with me to work and the weather turned colder with snow so I needed waterproof shoes. These are very comfortable and since I run in Altras it only makes sense to use their hiking boots.

Hike, backpack, Snowshoe with gaitors, Mountain bike, yard work in wet weather. Light weight, good footbed, love the toe box shape that allows foot splay, rather than limiting toe movement. Have had since 2019 with no issues, still in good shape. Zero Drop Sole - may feel strange to some because nearly all shoes have heel bed higher than ball of foot. After having a herniated disk in my back, I found that I couldn't wear most of my shoes as they tipped me slightly forward putting stress on my back. Zero drop facilitates straight posture, decreasing horizontal loading of vertebrae. My back is healed, but still prefer zero drop shoes for balance and posture. When I look at current picture it appears that AXOS may have deleted the gaitor loop I found on mine. I use gaitors in winter so I can wear these instead of heavy boots when hiking or snow shoeing , and I wear light weight gaitors in summer instead of higher boots to keep trail dirt out.

I bought these because of how much I deeply appreciate the ankle feel of my Lone Peak trail runners, and used them for a Rocky Mountain National Park trip spent out from before dawn to after dusk in all weathers. They're utterly comfortable and, at the same time, secure as can be. To be wearing a mid hiking shoe and forget you have it on? That's not a purchase I regret one bit. The toe box is that same wide, neuroma-soothing beauty from other Altra shoes. I like 'em.
