So far better materials than before, the lone peak 4s cracked at the fore foot area. The ties and laces are better especially at the top. The width looks to be the same and I have wide feet. I did size up from 8.5 to 9 and they feel great. Haven't worn them on a rainy day yet but I dont expect them to be totally water proof, will see. Still a good shoe.

Spent a long weekend wearing these boots hunting in MT. I love how light these boots feel on your feet. The neutral heel to toe drop is welcome change to my previous boots. It makes down hill travel way easier on the body. I have flat feet and normally my feet are shot at the end of a long day. Not with these boots. Too bad I didn't find a neutral shoe 30 years ago. My only concern is durability at this point. There is always a tradeoff between durability and weight. I would prefer a shorter life and less weight. Time will tell on this point.

Not only the best backpacking shoes (well built with a large toe bed) they're so comfortable You aren't dying to take them off after a 3 day trip, Mt.Madison Mt.Adams Mt. Jefferson Mt.Clay Mt. Washington. Needless to say I'll be buying another pair of these.

Felt broken in and comfortable from the moment I put them on. Very light and the cushioning is good but not excessive. The boots make a bit of noise while walking. A great boot

93 plus miles in mud and wet conditions. Not one issue with my feet in these boots for two weeks! Only modification was my SheepFeet insoles. Highly recommend these boots!

I have been an avid hiker since the 70's when first lacing up a pair of Vasque Voyagers. How boot technology has changed for the better since then! These boots are the pinnacle for me. I just finished a 7 day trip on the High Sierra Trail and they handled it all. Mixed terrain, variable weather systems from record breaking heat to hailstorms, and a 45+ pound pack. Completely waterproof, comfortable, and surprisingly durable. This is an impressive boot.

It was so food that it fit my feet perfectly. I want to recommend it to my friends with wide front feet. I will continue to buy these shoes in the future.

I bought 3 pair of the Mid Lone Peak's. One to hike in ........ the other two for everyday wear........ one pair black and one pair grey. My feet, ankles, knees, and hips all feel great. Can now hike 10 miles at a stretch rather than 5 and my feet feel just fine. And great styling........... Can Altra buy Peloton and get my scenic bike rides back?

I regularly and frequently carry loads of 15-22kg. on unimproved trails at altitude (over 12,000') for 10-12hrs/day for my guide business in various regions of Nepal for almost the past 25 years. I made the jump and switched to these and could not have been more impressed! Perfect for me! My first trip using them, and yes they were provided to me, was a 16-day brutal exploration trip to figure out new routes into and out of the Langtang Region. Loose rock, steep up, steep down, river crossings, mud, snow, rain, etc. Never felt a need to get them off at the end of the long days. Even as a longtime ultra racer, I never would have considered moving to a running shoe platform. But I decided to "go for it" and now life for my feet has changed for the better! Thank you Altra!

I got Altras to replace Oboes, but had to go up a size to get a good fit, so while the shoe itself is “true to size” etc, it’s larger than any other shoes/boots I have

I am big Altra fan with Escalante and Lone Peak 4 in my line-up. Reading some of the earlier reviews with ppl saying these weren't wide enough I was very sceptical ordering the shoes. And, of course the toe box didn't feel as wide when they first arrived compared to my other Altras. Having done a few walks now, I can report that this is still a fabulous shoe. The toe box might be a little narrower but they are still significantly wider than other shoes and are perfectly comfortable as you expect from Altra. The reported material bunching stops once they have been walked in - for me this took two short walks. Great shoe and would definitely buy again!

To finally get a size 16 in a lightweight, mid-height boot is a dream come true. So good to have snug fit around the heel and ankle, but ample spread at the toes! Thank you Altra!

The shoe was bought for hiking. The toe box has ample room. It fits like a glove, needs no break-in time. The shoe looks so good, I plan to wear it with my Tux. Overall, you cannot go wrong with this shoe.

I've been using Lone Peaks for hiking the last few years and was excited to see a new model come out. I've probably put about 30 miles on these shoes so far(with and without a heavy backpack) and I'm very happy with them. LOVE LOVE LOVE that they put the EGO midsoles in them. I can feel the difference. Altra listened to reviewers and changed the last few eye holes to traditional hiking lace hooks which makes it easier to get in and out of the shoes. They added some stitching to the toe as well to prevent the toe from peeling away from the shoe. Something I read before ordering, I saw others mentioning that these run more narrow than previous models so I bought the mens 7 instead of the women's 8.5 and am glad I did. They fit my foot perfectly. I also noticed they sit higher on my ankles which doesn't seem to make a difference with comfort. I've worn them in the rain and snow and so far my feet have stayed dry. I look forward to using these in the Adirondacks in June.

Bought this boot for cold/bad weather hiking. Fit is great and size fits the same as other Altra shoes. They are a little tight around the mod foot. The padding above the ankle is really nice. These boots are keep water out and your feet warm. The tread is great as well. These are going to be a little hot for summer hiking.

I have a wide foot and ordered a size bigger and life changer. They are so comfortable and my toes no longer hurt at all. I hike for 7 plus hours and I'm around 230 pounds so you can imagine the beating my feet are taking. Size bigger on the mid but on the low top stay to your true size. For some reason it is not the same. But that all folks. Hope that does the trick.

Shout out to Altra customer service! My Altra 4 boots didn't keep the rain out well. Called Altra and they got me into these new boots at no charge. I've worn them for a week - terrific and waterproof - Seattle style!

My first Altras were Lone Peak 4's which I loved but which were admittedly delicate. The fact of the matter is though that I should not have expected them to last as they were intended for trail use and gravel, rocks, and brush are inevitably going to take a light shoe apart. The thing was, I found that I needed a shoe that I could use for general activity in cold weather and boy-howdy, this is the one. It's remarkably comfortable, slightly narrower than my previous Lone Peaks which I like as I have narrow feet and appreciate the snugness and control, and appears to be made from sturdier materials (we shall see...). I had an issue with the first pair that was delivered but Altra's customer service was fantastic so if you receive shoes that have a problem, I highly encourage you to reach out to them about an exchange rather than a flat out return.

I'm mostly using this as a around town shoe and for hiking in wet weather. I've had some trouble with durability with Altra running shoes in the past but this seems to be doing well so far.

More support, more waterproof, much better looking, more fun, way better laces, and still amazingly light weight. Only more time and use will tell if Altra meaningfully improved durability, a notable and annoying shortcoming of prior iterations. So far, I've logged a couple hundred miles, mostly in urban settings but also on the trail, in the snow and slush and ice. Still looking great and holding shape and "style." As others have noted, deletion of traditional gaiter trap was a poor decision in my opinion. I hope Altra brings it back. Congratulations Altra on what so far is an excellent mid-height, super light hiking and walking boot.

My daughter and son-in-law both run with ultra shoes so I thought I'd give it a try. My only concern was you sent me the wrong color. I ordered dark gray you sent me dark blue.

I really like them but do not just love them to death. I thought that 25mm of cush would be enough for my heels. I would prefer to have a bit more. However, having said that, I had nothing to reference this mm measurement to as I generally use work boots. That's my only reference. Not much cushion there. As it turns out, they are light, comfy but not plush in the cushion area. One the foot has warmed the shoe it does well. My intent was to use this as a summertime or warmer weather boot for work. I will see how that goes later. Overall I like them just not absolutely loving them. I really like the cleated sole. It'd be great for trails I can see that.
