These shoes are the best of the 4 Altra pairs I owned before - great fit, water tight, well insulated. I ran with them in Minnesota winter days at -15 F without getting cold feet.

The shoes were comfortable out of the box once I adjusted the tongue a little. I was a little worried they would be on the heavy side with a listed weight of 374 g. My size 8 were 304 g each. It would have been nice to have gaiter traps, but that's not a deal breaker. I like the reflective strip that runs down the middle of the tongue and heel. Sometimes Altra toe boxes leave too much room for me to slide around a bit, but these shoes nailed the Goldilocks principle. I'm happy and dry with these!

Bought these as an alternative to the regular lone peak 5s for wetter conditions. Fit is great. Claws grip the dirt, rocks and roots very well!

Have a couple pairs of Altra's. This pair is the "original" design width wise; narrow heel and wide toe box. They fit perfect. My other pair, a current model running shoe, offers width options. I found the medium width too narrow and the wide is too wide. Both pairs I had to order half a size larger. I wise Altra would offer all their shoes with a "original" width option.

Great trail shoe. Warm and dry for winter running. Good traction.
They run a half size small compared to my other Altra shoes.

Great shoe for anyone with Morton’s neuroma. The extra wide toe box is a game changer.

Great shoe. A little bit bigger than Altra's lone peak line.

Bought these in hopes the wide, natural toe box would help me avoid pain from wonky toes. I still need a bit more height in the toe box to avoid pain, but, for me, they are still great shoes to use around town and on walks on level surfaces for a couple of miles. The natural foot design with less build-up in the sole works for me and looks more attractive than clunkier athletic shoes.

Great trail shoe or just ordinary walking shoe. Wanted Gore-Tex for bad weather days. Look the zero drop and foot shape concept. Surprising comfortable considering it has only a 25MM stack.

Mainly used for trail winter trail running (early am) with the dog on the nordic tracks in Park City. Super comfortable and keeps the feet dry + warm.

This is my fifth pair of Altra Lone Peak trail runners and my third pair of the RSM (now "ALL-WTHR") variety. The Lone Peaks suit my wide feet nicely and, contrary to some other reviews, the fit has been consistent across three generations now.
I run 3-4 miles every other day with my dogs, exclusively on single-track trails in the Sierras around Lake Tahoe. Until the snow gets deep enough to require boots and snowshoes, we do it all - dry, rain, light snow, and packed snow/ice with MICROSpikes. In fact, I've come to enjoy 'spike-running' more than anything, cuz the dogs love it, and the snow adds a little extra cushion for my 57-year-old joints. And the trails are blissfully vacant. Folks who shy away from the mountains in 'bad' weather don't know what they're missing. :-D
I do suggest buying your first pair of Lone Peaks through a local running store, to dial in the sizing. I normally take a size 13 shoe (or less), but for the Lone Peaks, I take a 14 - and that's saying something, given their extra width. My wide feet love these shoes. The toe box is blissful. It's absolutely liberating to go running without any constriction in my feet.
Now that I've dialed in my size, I reorder my Lone Peaks online without hesitation. I don't read the reviews anymore cuz there's always somebody claiming the new generation is narrower or shorter or lower or whatever than the last - a point of recurring online shopping anxiety. I don't mean to discount their experiences out of hand, but only to say that this hasn't been mine at all.
My only complaint, if I must, is that the Lone Peaks go out of stock for months at a time. Four of the five pairs I've purchased so far required some sort of special-ordering, scavenging or just plain waiting for the next generation to be released. In fact, this model was out of stock in my size just days after Altra announced it. Thankfully, it was restocked a few weeks later. Now that I subscribe to their emails, I'm maybe starting to get a handle on Altra's seasonal release cycle and can perhaps synchronize my habits to suit. We'll see. Otherwise, I can only ask that Altra kindly make more shoes! Or, maybe, a subscription model? :-)
I hope this is helpful.
See ya'll on the trail!

Fine shoe. The deep tread on the bottom made the support on the bottom of my foot a bit uneven. OK, but noticeable.

Full disclosure: I am sad to return these but they weren't the best for me of the ones I tried. If I had more money I'd keep these for certain uses. Here's a look at my first impressions based on wearing the shoes around the house a couple of times:
Excellent comfort and overall fit. Good support; less stable than a true hiking shoe but still good. When I first put them on, they felt like normal shoes. When I took my first step I realized how well-designed the sole is for walking and running. My feet just roll forward naturally in these shoes and it's a pleasure to be ambulatory. However, because there is no drop from the heel to the toe, they're not quite as comfortable to stand around in - puts my weight back on my heels a bit and shifts my posture. If I were buying shoes solely (a shoe pun!) for exercise, these would be a very strong contender.
The tread seems grippy but durable, the toe box is comfortable but not sloppy, and the shoes are waterproof (I didn't test this) but not swampy. I did also try the non-waterproof version (albeit in a larger size which was the only one available) and those did feel a little more breathable, but the difference there wasn't night-and-day.
Summary: I really, really like these shoes and I wish I could keep them, but in my specific case I'm leaning toward the Brooks Divide 2 as the pair I'm keeping due to better versatility. I'd gladly keep both if I could afford it.

Great shoe. I’ve been looking for a shoe with a wide tote box because I have Morton’s Neuroma. Highly recommend.

Zero drop sole and fits well. It’s a cushy shoe when you’re used to wearing barefoot type shoes but I appreciate the thickness of the sole for hiking on varying rough terrains. Would buy this shoe again.

I am so thrilled I discovered this brand! Altra knows real feet and comfort design with their Lone Peak 5 Trail Shoe! I got the “weatherized” version to protect my feet from moisture.
The wide and semi-deep toe box cradle your foot perfectly. This design fits normal or narrower width hikers but is ideal for anyone with wider width feet beyond your arch. Love them!
