In my opinion, Altra couldn't decide if the boot should be used for hiking or urban walking. So the lace-up is an incredibly stupid design. I've shown these boots to my friends and they all commented that it makes no sense.

The seam from the mesh to solid top rubs all around your toes. Toe box is too narrow, as in, my pinky toes rub against the side. Would feel amazing if not for toe box/material issues. Boo Altra!

I love Altra shoes, but we did a hike in Arizona last week and took these boots and I was very disappointed, the terrain was wet and these boots slide all over the place, it was not what I was expecting from hiking boots. I won't recommend them if you're hiking in wet conditions/terrain.

They've turned the best hiking shoes on the market into a mall walker. Gone are the fast draining features and the gaiter ring and Velcro. So disappointed, on to another brand

I am writing the review as an owner of another non-competitive footwear company. Been a lone peak fan for years, but these were a severe disappointment. Ordered them last minute for a 75 mile through hike with 16k' of vertical. I knew they would be zero break in like all Altras. Gave them two short test hikes and they felt fine. After two days on the trail, the midsole and insoles completely packed out. This caused the laces to pin out (on swollen feet). By day four, I was feeling everything through the trail, my ankles hurt, and my knees hurt like they've never hurt before. I returned them to REI the day that I got back from my hike. Super disappointed in this new product by Altra.

For a hiker, these shoes are ridiculously narrow. There's no room for a thick, shock absorbent hiking sock. Even in an ultra-thin liner sock, the toe box isn't nearly high enough nor wide enough. There's not enough padding around the ankle for a normal shoe, much less a hiker. The zero drop sole does no good when the toe box is so low and narrow. I had believed Altra would be my shoe forever. So disappointed!
