If you're looking for a comfortable and reliable pair of trail hiking shoes, the Altra Lone Peak's are definitely worth considering. These shoes are designed to provide support and cushioning, making them ideal for long distance walks on uneven terrain. One of the standout features of the Altra Lone Peak's is their overall comfort. The shoes are built with a wide toe box that allows your toes to spread out and relax, which can reduce the risk of blisters and foot fatigue. The midsole is also well-cushioned, providing plenty of shock absorption for a smoother ride. Another thing to note about the Altra Lone Peak's is that they can feel a little big. This is because they're designed to provide extra room in the toe box, which can make them feel a bit loose around the heel and midfoot. However, this is a small tradeoff for the added comfort and support that these shoes provide. Overall, if you're in the market for a high-quality pair of trail running shoes, the Altra Lone Peak's are definitely worth trying out. They're comfortable, supportive, and built to withstand even the most rugged terrain. So whether you're training for a trail race or just looking for a reliable pair of hiking shoes, the Altra Lone Peak's are definitely worth considering.

I love the shoes. They are light and very comfy for long hikes. My main issue was that the soul was separating from the shoe when this had only 50-60 miles. Altra send me a new pair through warranty!

I want to start by saying I love Altra shoes and have worn them for years. This hiking shoe is probably the most comfortable I have every owned and have gone through many pairs over the last few years that it has been available. My only criticism is the grip tends to wear out quickly and doesn't perform great in wet conditions. If they could do this shoe with the Vibram Megagrip that is available in the Olympus series it would be the PERFECT hiking shoe!

Just hiked some trails in Mt. Rainier. Very comfortable right out of the box (size 12). Soles have good grip, but are on the soft side, so probably need something sturdier if hiking over rocks or carrying a heavy backpack, but these were great for the 3-5 mile hikes I did.

My first experience with Altra has been meh... My wife and my brother swear by the trail runner version, so when I saw this version I gave it a try. Within 4 days the PU pull tab on the back broke. Most shoes use nylon webbing here, which holds up. The PU is also used on the lace tabs which adds a lot of friction when pulling laces through. Considering what happened to the pull tab I'm expecting those to come loose as well. I'll keep an eye out for the next version but I wont be buying another of this version.

... not waterproof or resistant. If you are looking for something for short, dry, predictable day hikes, this is a great boot; super comfortable and light. I would think twice about wearing them on a longer backpacking outing because they're as waterproof as running shoes.

These felt quite big , even though I had also ordered the same brand, same size in a different style, and it fit perfectly.

Fascinating shoe; it feels rock-solid stable without feeling at all supportive, which is to say, confining. It's counterintuitive, but kind of liberating. Like it won't protect me if I turn my ankle, but like I'm not going to turn an ankle. I like it and I'm eager to test it further and on rougher terrain. Assuming it holds up, the only complaint is that the lacing system is kind of klunky, with the minimal customization of a speed-lacing system with none of the, well, speed.

Use these for casual and walking/hiking - I was warned by Altra they were sized a bit large but bought my regular 11 1/2 anyway - so, they are somewhat long but still work for me (Smart Wool hiking socks to the rescue!) - I will wear them out and buy another pair!

My only wish is that the shoe have more arch support. Another idea would be for Altra to offer 2 options for the removable insoles, neutral and arch support.

I was looking for a light weight hiking shoe with ample cushioning. The soles of my feet were starting to hurt after 8 miles of hiking while wearing my lone peak 3.5's. I was hoping these lone hikers would have additional cushion thickness. I had my first hike in them today, 8.5 miles with considerable elevation gain. My feet are a little sore but not as bad as with the line peaks. Jury is still out. I love everything else about the shoe, though.

Altra shoes are one of the most comfortable I found to ware. Canvas like material on top reinforced front toe area sufficient sole for hiking. My standard size 13 were too big and I settled for a size 12.
I'd also recommend:
ASICS also very comfortable shoe

I have been running in Altra's for years and love the lone peaks for my trail runs. I decided to give these a shot for hiking and love fit and performance. I do wish that Altra would make these in a brown, gray, or darker tan without and high contract flashy colors. When I am in the woods covering miles I don't like any of my gear to be flashy and it eliminates the possibility of these pulling double duty while hunting. Give us a brown without nonsense colors added in these and the all-weather version. I'll buy both.

From the description " Complete with full trail, dirt, and rugged hiking capabilities, the Hiker also has a casual side, ready to explore the urban scene". Except they are not waterproof, nor water repellent, but let water in like a sieve. Wore them while training for a three day hike at the talledega national forest in Alabama and they were great until I crossed a small stream and the boot got just barely in the water and then I had wet feet. They were light and comfortable climbing to the highest point in Alabama, but not the boot if any chance of rain or puddles. I'm 6'3" and they gave reasonable support for my 240 pound frame. Unfortunately, they are not appropriate for stepping in 2 inches of water, so on full day hikes, wear something else.

I with that there was an option for wider feet. The shoe was pinching at my outside toe. I feel like the toe box could be a wider shape. Otherwise, I like the style and feel for someone with narrow or normal width feet.

These are my 6-7 pair of Altra shoes. I'm impressed with how comfortable these are and they are very grippy. My Lone Pines had lost their grip. These shoes lace and unlace very nicely and slip off and on easily. They are thinner on the sides than my Lone Pines and maybe that's why they feel bigger. I normally wear a 13 in men's shoes, but have been buying Altra size 14's after some toenail issues in 13's. The weather is just starting to get cold here in Western PA, so I can't say how they'll be in the snow, but so far they've been a pleasure to wear when the temperature is in the 30's. I also think they are great looking shoes.

I normally wear a women's size 8.5 and I need a wide toe box, but not wide in the heel. After chatting with customer service, I go a men's 8 Lone Peak and it's working pretty well for me. I was advised to go with a men's shoe as it would be a bit wider. It's slightly long on me, but I wouldn't size down. The main thing I'm still working on with these shoes is getting more arch support. My arches fell during pregnancy and I do need arch support or my ankles roll in. The sole has enough give and bounce that it fills in some of that empty arch space, so I can't wear my normal range of arch support inserts at this put's too much pressure on the arch when I walk, so I'm looking to just get some foam and try to make a low-profile arch support myself. All the other shoes I tried with "natural foot shape" didn't have enough height inside and were the barefoot type, which offers no cushion. Overall the Lone Peak shoes are way better than what I have been suffering with for years.

A longtime Altra wearer, I got these for casual walking and everyday shoes - extremely comfortable - may use them for hiking later. Slightly bigger than expected - with hiking socks they work.

I wear a size 9 in women's and the men's 7.5 fit me perfectly with ample toe room. I like the dark-colored soles that won't show dirt. So far I've only worn these on flat trails so I'll have to see how they feel on climbs and descents. I really hope these shoes hold up to hard wearing as they're the lightest and best looking wide toed hiking shoe I've seen to date.

I am surprised to see a bunch of negative reviews. These have been the most comfortable boots I've hiked in. I just returned for a week hiking in the Winds. Scrambling over Talus, bushwhacking through forest and forcing many rivers- this boot never let me down. That said, there are a couple things that could be changed /added: I wish there were drain holes. These boots took a long time to dry. They were fine to hike in wet, but I was lucky the weather was warm. Also - add more colors to the line up ;)

So far these feel really good. I can't give a full 5 stars until they are put to the test for which they were purchased... a 3 day AT hike. These replaced a pair of more traditional hiking boots that gave me runners toes on both feet and plantar faceitis in my right foot. (That was with custom orthotics in them!) The previous boot was comfy in the short term but didn't stay that way for long days and distances. I'm hoping that the Altras tell a different story and let me enjoy my hike without the foot discomfort. If they perform, it will be 5 stars. I'm hopeful!

Please bring back the Tushar. Unfortunately, I will have to switch to Salomon since they make a do all boot.

I liked the gripping aspect of the treads, especially going downhills. However, I had to put extra insoles in because the bottom padding was too thin.

Good shoes and should be comfortable but they are a lot larger than expected. Ordered the same size I wear in a couple of other brands and these are 2-3 sizes too large. Unfortunately, had to return. The size I need is out of stock but will watch for my size to become available again.

I bought for hiking but they are so comfortable I wear all the time. They really don't work for the kind of hiking I do since they aren't waterproof. Fit is excellent!
