I haven't put these through their paces yet, but I used my 4.5's extensively for hiking, backpacking, hunting, and trail running. Compared to the 4.5's, the 5's overall fit is mostly the same other than the toe box doesn't seem quite as wide. The cushioning feels a bit more cushy, which I think will be nice. My one potential concern is that the material doesn't feel like it will breathe and drain water as well as the 4.5's. I cross a lot ankle to knee deep streams with my shoes and usually rely on efficient draining.

I have really enjoyed the Lone Peak over the last few years but this latest model seems to have a slightly narrower toe box, which I'm not a big fan of. I'd prefer the oversized look of the old models rather than the current model.

The wide is wide enough for me to order the length which is right for my super wide feet. I really like the ability to lace these up in a more form-fitting manner than the Superiors, and I am positive I will order another pair! They have very good grip on rocks and enough padding in the sole/insole to not feel like I'm beating my feet on the trail.

Wear these for 12 hour shifts as a nurse and around the house and they are almost like slippers. Super comfortable and breathable. Will be using them to run on trails as well. The only thing that may be an issue is the material where the material flexes when you take a step. It seems like a hole might work itself into the material but I could be wrong. Will be buying more lone peaks.

I've had both my normal size 10 and went down to 9.5. I prefer the 9.5, length is better and still have room at the toes (felt less sloppy, more secure). Great all around trail runner that is good for trail that is a little technical. Not the fastest shoes but really comfortable and good protection/grip that have you feeling like you can go all day

Feels good, 1/2 sizes in bigger sizes would be great. 12 was tight, 13 a little big but not bad. Don't have many miles on them, but so far so good.

First off, I love the Lone Peak. There is no other shoe that fits my foot as perfectly as this shoe. With that out of the way, I've found the Lone Peak 5 to be a bit more tippy and way more sloppy on the fast, technical down hills of the Colorado Front Range. Lateral stability is noticeably worse in the switch backs, threatening an ankle sprain. As such, I've had to back off a bit on descents. I'm not sure I'd run these shoes on the scree and talus of the higher elevation trails.
I became curious as to what the issue might be, and began taking measurements of the Lone Peak 4.5 and the Lone Peak 5. I found that the Lone Peak 5's outsole is roughly 3/16" narrower than that of the Lone Peak 4.5. I'm not certain this is the cause for decreased lateral stability, but I suspect it doesn't help.
Going beyond my gripes, the midsole of this shoe is much more resilient than that of the 4.5. It feels like there's slightly more energy return from this material than in the previous version. Also, the outsole compound is so sticky, it's like having a superpower. The upper is comfortable, as usual.
Overall, a great shoe that will work well for most people.

Bravo to Altra for having added Wide sizes to the Lone Peak 5, especially after the Lone Peak 4.5 was so much narrower than earlier Altras. But darn, why can't they make the sizing consistent? I have worn 8 or 8.5 in my many other Altras, but 8W is too long in the Lone Peak 5. And there is no 7.5W. Altra - please get the sizing right or add a 7.5W to the Lone Peak 5 lineup.

Use for off road training and fast packing. Significantly improved fit over problematic 4.0 and 4.5 versions - unless you have low volume, narrow feet. Holding up well after first 250 miles. Please don't change before I buy second pair.

Strong build quality, good fit right out of the box, comfortable shoe! My only issues with this show are the lack of color options in wide and the slight snug feeling around the ankle at the tongue.

Shoe is very comfortable. Like others, I find the heel slips a bit and if you are on a side slope I feel like the shoe slides around on my the heel part of the shoe. Despite this, I haven't had any blistering or foot pain issues, and the shoe maintains its grip well on the trail. I went from the Lone Peak 3.5 to this shoe, and this shoe is definitely lighter, but so far I prefer the LP 3.5 fit better.

I'm an ultra marathoner with feet that swell significantly after 15 miles. Ive wanted to wear the Lone Peak for several years, but my feet were just too wide. My wish for a wide sizing came true with the 5 and I am thrilled! The wide fits perfectly - long after the 15 mile mark. The shoe would be perfect if the traction were a bit stickier on loose, technical, switchbacks (like shoes I've worn with Vibram Megagrip). I've slid-out at least once on every training run. I've solved the issue by changing by downhill switchback running style a bit I will keep using the shoes for the foreseeable future. Thanks for the wides!

Toe box is wide and very comfortable, but the heel has very little padding and they rub pretty bad. I cured this with a small silicone insert. Wish the 3.5 would be available again. Overall happy with them.

I feel like altras keep getting narrower, but still a better fit (for me) than any other shoe I've tried! I had been on Superiors before, but really like the cush on the Lone Peaks now!

This shoe holds up great, very comfortable, and fits my feet just right. Although last years version of the shoe I liked a bit better, only on account of the fabric being a little less dirt attracting than on this new shoe, but overall the really important features are still there, and that I can live with for a year or so till I wear these babies out.

I'm a Lone Peak boot and shoe user for years.
Especially the 3.0 & 3.5 neoshell mid boots. Since the redesign I've switched to the Olympus as they have very wide toe box. I'm a hiker. I decided to see if these Lone Peak 5 in wide would work for me. I found them very sloppy but I knew if I went down a size I would not have the toe room for steep descents. I took out the insoles and put in a Spenco gel insole then reinstalled the Altra insole and that did the trick! They are very comfortable this way and I'm going to do a serious hike and rock scramble this weekend in them. If Altra makes a waterproof mid boot in a WIDE Option I would for sure buy them. But if it is between the modified low top mesh Lone Peak 5 and my Olympus 4; I'd have to choose the Olympus as they have incredible traction, plush cushioning and fits like a glove. I think the up side of these lone peaks is you have extra space if you have fat Barney Rubble feet or need orthopedics. You have space to add inserts, arch supports, extra socks or waterproof socks as there is so much interior space.

I've only had them a day so my review is provisional. I purchased Lone Peak 5's online directly through Altra. And ordered my normal shoe size 11. They arrived early which was great. I immediately tried them on hoping to go on a hike with my dogs. They initially appeared to be comfortable, but a bit sloshy. Spoke with Liz in customer service who was great. We discussed the issue and brainstormed for a few minutes. I drove to a local shop and tried some 10 1/2's, too small. So we had to either make the 11's work or return them. We agreed to place some foot pads under the Altra pad. I then incorporated a runners/racers loop with the shoe lace going through the last eyelet. The pads along with the loop secured my heel and gave my foot a nice glove like fit. So for all you guys that are in between sizes, this may offer some support. The additional weight from the pad is nominal and unnoticeable.

From the other reviews I thought it would feel way too narrow (I'm a 2E to 4E in "normal" shoes), but the 2E Width is just fine for me. However, my normal go-to of Size 10 (normally 9.5) is about a half-size too big over my already half-size up. It's manageable, and I didn't have much issue with running some technical trail in Zion with them, but my foot does roll inside the shoe a bit more.

Have only used these twice but they seem OK for the most part. I did have some mild discomfort in the heel area of the left foot. Maybe manufacture error. Otherwise no complaints.

Back trouble and bad knees put an end to running for me years ago, but trail-running shoes support my arthritic feet and serve as daily wear shoes for me. This shoe has become my every-day walker. Arthritis causes me serious toe pain, and the roomy toe box of Altra shoes provided an immediate cure. The overall fit, however, is a bit too roomy (I have narrow heels and a narrow foot overall). I'd order this shoe a half-size smaller if I could do it over again, but as it is, I will wear them happily until they wear out, then order another pair.
