I purchased the wide option with the hope that this would feel like the Lone Peaks I've grown to love (I've owned at least 5 pairs of Lone Peaks prior to this). I just received them and my first impression is that the wide version has a similar fit to the older Lone Peaks before some of the recent modifications which have led to a narrower version. So far so good. Thanks, Altra, for incorporating feedback from many of us who are long-time Altra lovers. I'm hoping we'll see this same wide option with the next version of Timps.

The lone Peak five wide it's just a (smidge wider) and Deeper instep-(good sticky rubber, Decent forefoot and toebox, structural integrity & durability, compared to other hiking shoes in its class' Questionable Depending on the actual user-and purpose.(The way I wear most Altra footwear is,Remove the insole and wear a heavy duty wool thick sock.(now if they could just make a real heavy duty approach shoe with the same design,1. Oblique anatomical 4foot, ergonomically correct footprint and toebox .

Happy to announce that the LP5's feel the same as their immediate predecessors in terms of sizing and toe box roominess. They look much more streamlined/mature, and include some great upgrades!

I've been waiting for these shoes for a LONGGG time. Altra has always had a great toe box, but as a very wide (especially middle foot) runner, it has been extremely hard to find shoes. PLEASE ALTRA, MAKE MORE WIDE WIDTHS. My running: Mostly Trails w/ lots of hills (think 1k+ elevation per run). 30-40 miles average per week (obviously ramping up) Typically I wear 9.5 in Hoka/Inov8, but had to half size down since there was a lot a room. My left foot is almost 2E while my right foot is 3E. Keep in mind, these widths are almost the same to my mid foot, not just the toe box. My actual review: Out of the box, these shoes felt great and I was able to break them in fairly easily. I haven't owned a pair of lone peaks before and I had almost purchased a pair earlier last year but the mid-foot was too narrow. With the wide widths, this has been fixed. I would consider the wide width to fit a 2E foot and I can luckily get away with it for a 3E.

I work at a store that sells Altra and I got to try these on yesterday. I feel the midsole and the upper are both improved on the LP5. I still feel like I did about the 4 and the 4.5 that they run a half size big in the smaller sizes (I typically wear an 8 but wear a 7.5 in these. I wear an 8 in the Superior 4.5 for reference. I'm excited to get mine in 7.5 soon but wanted to get my thoughts out here for others!

Altra Is definitely moving in the right direction with this wide edition: (-and make it even more wider-) Shaped for normal human healthy feet. It is more anatomical, more oblique forfoot, Hi-instep spacious toebox~ergonomically correct To a normal human healthy foot, Suitable for a diverse range of feet shapes. I personally have( "more than 30 pair of Altra's footwear") #1. More space in the toebox #2. More sticky rubber and traction on the outer soul #3. Stitched down to cap-bumper; Those are the main three upgrades that I noticed(now they must work on durability and structural integrity of the footwear itself.

Altra got this one right. With the 4.5 it seemed like things took a step back. The fit and feel of the 4.5 had little resemblance to the 4.0 in my opinion. With the 5 I feel like I'm at home again. The EGO midsole is a welcomed addition and one that I'm excited to have. Time will tell how these are in the long run, but so far I'm extremely impressed. For me it's one of those shoes that felt right the moment I put my feet in them.

Moving in the right direction, More anatomically correct, more oblique shaped Toebox, ergonomically capable to a more diverse foot range of customer base, #1. Stitched down toeCape #2. Sticky traction sole #3.more ergo-oblique human foot shaped toebox .(From my perspective that's the major 3 Upgrades)I have three pair of the new lone Peak wides . In the photographs there's Olympus 2.5 , lone Peak 4.5 , lone Peak 4 and Tushar boot, all 12-1/2 men's. The snow footprint compared next to a conventional hiking boot:(poor~sole:)Please produce more wide-wider forfoot shaped, hi-instape footwear.

And now for something completely different. My running days far behind me. 5' 11" and 280 with very wide feet. I have tried Brooks - Beast, New Balance, etc. This is the best fitting shoe i have had in ages. Fir when my wide Chacos are a no go i use these. I do a lot of field work on and around water and these have been great. Tl;dr great even for the non runner

I really love these shoes. Very comfortable with plenty of room for toes to move around. This shoe still has the same problem the prior version, 4.5, had; there is insufficient protection in the top of the shoe where the big toe sits. This has caused the wearing of a hole in the top of the shoe. This problem has been reported by other users for the 4.5 version and I was hoping it would be corrected for the 5.0 version. See pic which shows 5.0 version on the left and 4.5 version on the right. A tiny hole has started on the newer 5.0 shoes after 150-200 miles. The 4.5 version has about 400 miles on it. I can't say that I will buy the next pair of trail shoes until it is clear this problem is corrected. I am ok with the bottom of my shoe wearing out from long miles but the top of the shoe should not wear out first! Please fix this flaw!!!!

I love my Altra shoes. After experiencing them, it’s the only shoe I want. I have even went back to other shoes to save some money and come right back to my Altra’s. I would give them a five overall if they lasted longer.

Although my foot doesn’t measure ’wide’, I find most athletic shoes too narrow. This is my first pair of Altras and I’ve come to really appreciate the shape of the shoe and its wider toe box. It’s a stable, adequately cushioned shoe. I was concerned with how noticeable the printed support at the top of the foot was but, after an adjustment period, it doesn’t stand out anymore. I can’t speak to durability yet but I’m optimistic based on my early experience.

Not a trail runner. Suffer from heel/ arch pain quickly when standing. Purchased for daily wear in healthcare (standing in OR 8 hrs plus daily). I like the tread aggression level. I think it is perfect for daily wear. I feel more connected to ground and stable. Previously have worn ASICS (too heavy and poor durability with gel-nimbus). Hoka Gaviota (comfortable and durable but disliked unstable feel with high stack height on uneven ground). Hoka Elevon (good overall but still high stack issues). So far, Lone Peak 5most comfortable overall fit. Wasn't sure about low structured heel but works great for me. Love how it seems to be changing my gait (smoother) due to increased sense of ground. I still get similar foot pain after a short stand session BUT, it is less intense and more evenly spread across arch. My feet also recover quicker. It feels as if my feet are stretching but adapting. If shoes last long enough to justify cost I see myself going Altra long-term.

I use this for light hiking and around town. I think Altra could stiffen up the heel cup and possibly the lateral structure/stability. I don't like my shoes cranked down super tight but the rear section just feels unsupportive and loose. Other than that I really love this shoe and plan to buy again.

Great shoe, I have a tough time finding shoes wide enough, and these fit great. I've got about 30 miles of trails on these shoes and no issues. I'll probably buy another pair. I would have rated 5 stars, but to find wide shoes on the website you have to search each style and each color of each style to see if they are made. The shoe store that I normally get shoes from (altra dealer) said that altra didn't have wide sizes. They probably had no idea since it's not easy to find. Please add a filter for wide sizes to your website, it might actually sell more shoes because they would be easier to find.

Have a couple pair of escalante's and wanted to try more of an all terrain shoe. I usually get a size 9 but they felt much too large in both the toe box and the heal although when using the last hole it was better. Got the 8 1/2 and fits much better with still room enough in the toe box.

Great for running trails, hiking or casual wear. I gave only 4stars because of half size bigger, but after wearing a little thicker running socks..they're perfect out the box!

My husband and son had been hiking the full Appalachian Trail (2200 mile journey) in Lone Peak 4.5 which had a wider toe box. The change in style from 4.5 to Lone Peak 5 required my son to go UP 1/2 size from 10 to a 10 1/2. He has been requiring a new pair approximately every 300 miles. Occasional early peeling of rubber on the rough terrain, but he is still enjoying the feel of the shoe. My husband, having a higher arch, completed first 600 miles in the 4.5 style, but had to move away from this minimalist shoe because it did not give him enough arch support; therefore, causing shin pain. He did not try the updated 5.0 style. Many of the hikers use this brand and enjoy them. I would recommend you give them a try.

I've been wearing Lone Peaks since the 2.5s I get about 150 miles out of a pair before they are showing serious wear on the sides thanks to lots of rocks and off-trail travel. I love that I can pull a pair from the box and hit the trail without any break in. The only real change I noticed in the LP5 is I tend to pull out in the heel a little more. I've started using the heel lock lacing method and that helps a bit.

Reviews are subjective, everyone's foot is different. I have wide feet and high arches. I've had trouble finding shoes that are comfortable on long treks. I put in 15-20mi hikes on a regular basis, moderate elevation gain (4k-5k), and while my feet are tired by the end, there's no blisters or soar spots. Knees feel good too. I've only had them for about 2 months, and I suspect that they won't be all that durable in the long run...the soles feel pretty soft, but for now they're better than any other shoes I've used recently (Merrell/Keen).

This is the trail running show I've been waiting for. All my previous Altra, Inov-8, and Topo shoes were too narrow. Now I don't have to resort to buying 4E New Balances! Thank you for creating these, Altra. The only reason that I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that I still encounter the old Altra problem of sliding around in the shoes, despite the new (better) fit. When I catch a rock or root in these shoes, there's a higher chance of it twisting my ankle than with any other brand of shoe. Maybe it's a combination of the super sticky outsoles plus slippery insides. Fix that + keep the wide option + I'm 5-star guy for life.

I own the Lone Peak 4, and the normal width 5s fit just like them which is good since the 4.5s were narrower. I do have to go up a full size to have a comfortable length.
