These are almost perfect. While they look and feel about 1/2 size too large, I wouldn't dare order the next size down for fear they'd be too short. They are breathable, cushy, and I love the knobby tread with the sticky sole, much needed when hiking or running in wet weather. They're also very lightweight. The insole, such as it is, is lightly glued down, but I'd have to use a thinner ortho to replace it. When I used the ones I typically use it made me feel as if my feet were bulging out of the shoe. Lots of lacing options, which is very appreciated, as my insole has increased in height as I've gotten older. Good shoes, almost perfect.

The fit was as described. It's light weight and true to size. I bought them to walk on unpaved roads. Great for a walk but not cushy enough to wear all day, especially if you're standing most of the time.

These were great but I am having to return because they ran a half size large. I have always worn a 10.5 in all past Brooks styles, except for the Revel. Needed a 10 in these instead.

These shoes weren't the right ones for the type of trails I am running on. They feel good while running both smooth and rocky flat terrain but while running up hill with loose rocks underfoot, there isn't enough traction. I also did not like the feel of walking in them, they were clunky for some reason. I ordered a 7.5 which Is my typical running shoe size.

These are a bit more narrow through the forefoot and tight on the instep than my Brooks Ghost. Great support, nice firm shoe, but too snug for me.

Love the shoes, but they were a little too tight in the toe box area. A half-size up would be too big. Sorry to return them.

I?ve ran through three pairs of the latest-model calderas, so I was excited when a darker color of the catamount became available. They?re not as cushy as the calderas (which is actually a good thing in my opinion). My two issues that made it a four star shoe were: 1. The laces: I?d prefer more of a ?locking material? type lace, as is on the caldera. 2. The lugs- maybe it?s how I run, but I chew through lugs on all the brooks shoes I?ve ran in (mazama, cascadia, and caldera), I wish the lugs were a bit more robust. What I love: 1. The toe box is nice and accommodating to my wider foot. 2. The soles seem stable on the few wet runs I?ve been on (mostly gravel and dirt/mud groomed trails with some steep inclines).

Likes: Lightweight! I was searching for a trail shoe that was under 9oz, but provided a higher level of protection on technical trails than the trail shoes I had been wearing. These are a winner! The color options for the Catamount are also super cool - I would purchase them all, but LOVE the gray colorway! They offer great protection on technical trails - you cannot feel any rocks or roots underfoot. Dislikes: Sizing was a little tough - the toebox has volume, but is narrow. So, I actually sized down to an 8 (I wear 8.5 in all other Brooks shoes). The 8.5 felt too roomy in the toebox (it felt like my feet would move around too much). I can feel my big toe hit the edge of the shoe in the size 8, but no blisters even after using them on a 22-mile trail run. If the toebox on the Catamount was a little wider with less volume, these would get 5/5 from me! Side note - I have heard about some folks cutting out the liner around the midfoot of the shoe. I really like the way it feels! But I love a snug midfoot and heel with a slightly wider toebox.

Decided to try these out. Have run in the Calderas (1st and 2nd model) and the Divide (1st model). These are my new go-to trail runners! Have done crushed granite rolling trails and just did a 10 mile super rocky technical run with a little bit of fire road and a short pavement stretch all mixed in. These shoes did great. There was a really steep downhill portion that it felt like the laces were digging in to the top part of my ankle. Not sure if it is because the tongue isn't very padded, but I might have to re-lace for any long downhill stretches. No hot spots. My heel felt snug, even on the steep uphills. Felt ok on the paved portion too. Thanks Brooks for making a fun shoe to hit the trails in! Picked the gray color (why would you make a white trail shoe??) and it still is looking great!

I love how lightweight the Catamount is. It's springy and responsive on the trails and good for road transitions too. Although, I'm used to my previous pair of Calderas and I'm not a fan of the narrow toe box of the Catamount in comparison.

I was super sad to learn that the grit was being discontinued since it has been my go to trail shoe since it was forst released with each generation getting lighter and closer to the ground. I am disappointed in general to lose the whole connect line, but the catamount isn't a terrible option if you're looking to replace the grit. It's lightweight and well built. It has a larger heel to toe drop at 6mm, but is the closest to neutral that you can get in the current trail lineup from Brooks. I love the black/pink color scheme, and the lace locker and velcro garter attachment at the back is also a thoughtful detail. The toe box is definitely roomier than the grit, and the feel is more cushioned and less connected, but because it's lightweight you can still zoom along. It's not a bad shoe, but it definitely doesn't replace the grit in my opinion.

The sole is supportive and has a nice spring and cushion. I have narrow feet so have to wear a thick sock and lace them tightly but lacing tightly puts some pressure on the top of my foot. The tongue does not have slits to lace the laces through and so when I run the tongue tends to scoot down and bunch up toward the front of the shoe or slide to the side, both of which positions put pressure on the top of my foot. Tightening the laces on the toes end of the shoe helps with this problem but it is less comfortable to have to tie the shoes so tightly due to pressure on top of the foot. If the shoe came in a narrow width and had the slits in the tongue to keep it in place I'm sure I would give it five stars. Overall it is a very comfortable shoe, light weight, supportive and springy, great traction and aesthetically a nice look.

I like these for running. Especially in colder weather (snow, ice, cold rain). For warmer weather I do not wear them as I like a little more cushion typically

I've been running in the Cascadias for the last few years and decided to give the new Catamounts a try. So far, I've tested them out on a few training runs and (the true test) a 16 mile trail race. Pros: -Immediately noticed a difference in weight vs the Cascadias. Much lighter. There is a noticeable difference in the amount of cushioning, especially in the forefoot, which is great for the unforgiving rocky terrain of the AZ desert. My feet did not feel as tired following my 16 miler than the Cascadias. -I feel like the whole shoe in general is more flexible than the Cascadias and moves with your feet. -I had tons of confidence in the shoe during steep acsents and descents. Really tacky (in a good way). -Breathable - again important here in AZ Cons: -Wish the laces were a little bit more forgiving (elastic) like the new Ghosts. -For people with narrow feet, like me, it is wider than the Cascadias, therefore my feet were moving within the shoe during my first run. I solved this problem by wearing thicker socks, which was an easy solution. -The color - can't get past the bright white. Overall, I like this shoe and it may become my new go to. You get a lightweight shoe without sacrificing cushion. The next test will be durability as I train for a 50 miler in December.

The shoe is difficult to put on without a shoehorned. Difficult to take off. Not nearly as comfortable as some of your other shoes. I will not order this particular one again . Very disappointing because I like Brooks very much.

I bought these for trail runs and to take mileage off my GTX backpacking boots for shorter hikes. They are remarkably comfortable for train shoes (I'm used to barefoot runners), but my two main gripes are that the lacing, no matter what I have tried, is either too tight or too loose. If you tie them comfortably, your foot sides about at the front, but if you tie them normal tight I loose circulation! Also I will be surprised if the treads hold up to PA rocky ground, but maybe I'll be delightfully surprised.

I am a huge fan of Brooks shoes and am sorry if this is a bit negative. It might be that I usually get a different model. The Catamount is a bit too large. I haven't gone outside. Just at home. Usually I get Ghost or Levitate. I might return them. I'll give it another day. (Just at home - carpeted.) But I am still pro-Brooks.
I'd also recommend:
Brooks only, for athletics

Not much of a runner but a major walker in NYC. - but going to have my first 4 mile race next month. Found these uncomfortable to pound the pavement, especially w/bunions. Going to order another pair of Ghosts soon.
