I've found my new ultra shoe. Put me on the list: I love the Catamounts. I've run several hundred Blue Ridge Mountains (read: rocky, rooty, narrow, damp) trail miles in them, including a technical, super-fun marathon and a scree-and-leaf-covered 40 miler. Enough cushion for me--not Hoka soft, but deep and springy. I'm pretty light on my feet, so the rocks didn't poke through the plate. Grip has been great both on roots, rocks, and leaves and in the damp (I mean, look: they aren't mud shoes. And anyway, even 6mm lugs are going to start slipping in 7mm deep mud, amirite?) At my last long race, the crew at the final aid station said; "are you really running the 40? You look like you haven't fallen down, so we assumed you were doing the 20." So there you go--one of the only runners not to fall that day was wearing Catamounts. For reference, I'd run happy (see what I did there? am I a Brooks fanboy or what?) in Calderas until they got too thick and squishy for me with version 4 (I felt like I was fighting the cushion and my lower calves fatigued quickly). I really liked the midsole of the Salomon Sense Ride 4, but had trouble with fit. I have weird feet: narrow, forefoot valgus, "overpronation" of the calcaneus, but I hate, hate, hate stability shoes. I keep coming back to Brooks because they make uppers that work for me. Dear friends at Brooks: if you are reading this, please do not change a thing. (Also, bring back the PureFlow :))

My absolute favorite trail shoe! It's roomy enough to be comfortable without feeling at all sloppy. The toe cap and rock plate give you just enough protection without weighing the shoe down. It's fast and nimble, but still nicely cushioned. Also, if you're running in sloppy terrain, they drain really well. The tread isn't as aggressive as some other shoes I've run in, but I've put in miles on technical terrain up above the treeline and felt perfectly secure. I've put about 200 miles on these shoes, typically in runs over 10 miles, and have yet to come up with a single complaint.

This is my second pair of Catamounts. They are perfect for my daily hike/walk. Just enough for the trail without being too much for the trail.

The fit was perfect. These shoes are very light and look good. Traction was good on dry ground and rock but not so good in wet clay and mud. I plan to use these for daily walks and day hikes in warmer dry weather. They seem well made but being so light I am not sure how long they will hold up . I have only used them for a short time.

I have a hard time getting shoes that fit well and these did. I normally wear a 14 and many brands seem to get sloppy with larger sizes. These look good and felt very comfortable when I put them on. They are very light and have good traction on rock and dry ground. I wanted to run as soon as I got out on the trail. I bought these for my daily walks and day hikes. They do not work well in mud and I don't think I would wear them on a long backpack trip. My feet seemed to move around in the shoes on steep slopes and I had a hot spot in 3 miles. This may be partly because they are new. Overall, I am very happy with these shoes.

Awesome! Ran through +12" of creek water a few times and didn't get soggy...stayed light and springy. Water drained nicely. Good traction but not too much bite. Perfect as a trail racer for sure.
Highly recommended!

Overall, I'm very pleased with the Brooks Catamount. Over the last five years, I've used the Ghost series shoes for my practice runs on the road, and Salomon (Sense, Ultra, SLabs) for trails. One week ago, I purchased a pair of the Catamounts and have run them on about 25 miles worth of trails. Thus far, I can see myself continuing to run these shoes through their life cycle over the next year +. I like the out sole tread and the tacky rubber. So far, those two features are the big standouts. I also like the wider toe box area reminding me a little of the Ghost series. My toes feel like they have room to splay. The lockdown is good, with foot stack is a little higher than many trail shoes I've run on, but so far, its not been a negative issue. While this may not be the best pick for a really technical trail, so far, I've found it to be excellent for the vast majority of trails I run on here in the inland northwest. Finally, I really like the shoe lace tab. A fun and surprising feature that I hadn't expected.

Light and comfortable. The tongue held in center by elastic is nice. Shoe lace elastic hold is awesome too. This is my second pair. I mainly run on the superior hiking trail and they hold up well!

I?m picky. Crazy picky. Picky about comfort, durability, and multi purpose. The thing I love the most about the Catamount is they don?t slip on the pavement when it?s wet. I?m taking them out today for hiking in CO and suspect they will perform beautifully. And for what it?s worth, I?m female and often need to purchase men?s running shoes for the pinch more width it offers. What I don?t like about this shoe is the Velcro pulltab. I?d much rather have a loop.

Unbelievable shoe! I am flat footed and religiously run in the Adrenaline GTS. I was skeptical because this shoe was neutral, however, the description Brooks provided indicated flat arch types were suitable in this shoe. They are right! Great on the trails, all the support I need and super fast. Perfect shoe.

I really like this shoe for my faster trail runs. Lightweight and flexible with no traction issues. The laces on these were a good choice as I find some of the thinner tongue shoes like this one have a tendency to bite into the top of my foot. These certainly do not do that.

Very Responsive, so not as cushioning but great for speed. I was impressed how well they gripped the Lava rock we hike/run on here in SE Idaho with the smaller lugs. The tread seems like it will last as well.

Super light shoes, these shoes are the combination of the Hyperion Tempos and a rugged trail runner. Awesome response, perfect fit and insane speed. All around one of the best trail shoes on the market. Though a bit higher in price the return is 100% worth it.
