These shorts are the BOMB! I brought these to try them out and have now ordered the 2 in 1 different colour. It's the pockets it's all about the pockets! I had gotten so fed up with the small sizing I darn well cut the top fabric cover it was so annoying.

Love the new design! The new, wider waistband is very comfortable, and I love the pockets. There are two OPEN TOP pockets on BOTH sides -- so four total. AND a fifth zipper pocket in the back. This marks the return of side pockets big enough to slip an iPhone into. I had older generation Sherpa shorts that the bigger side pockets, but the pockets got smaller for a while. I find it convenient to put my phone in the side pockets before and after runs and workouts, but I still prefer to run with my phone in a dedicated belt due to bouncing. The pockets are perfect for the phone before and after, and they provide TONS of storage for lots of nutrition, gloves, etc. during the run. Thank you for bringing the slightly larger side pockets back! I bought one pair in each color!

I bought these because I needed shorts with pockets for energy gels. I just completed a half marathon with them and they were super comfortable and I was able to carry all of the gels I needed plus my house keys. Perfect for long runs when you need to carry nutrition with you.

I have been very pleased with these shorts so far. It's surprisingly hard to find running shorts with decent pockets for modern smartphones, but the rear zip pocket on these fits my iPhone 12 perfectly and holds it with minimal bounce. There are also open mesh pockets on either side to hold gels or other small items, making these great for long runs without the need for any additional storage belt, etc. The smooth waistband is very comfortable, as is the liner, which is supportive but still light and breathable enough for warm weather running. They run true to size--I am 5'7", 160 lbs, 32" waist, and the size M is perfect. Although they are great as they are, just a couple of suggestions for future versions: (1) put the drawstring on the outside so that the inside of the waistband is totally smooth, and (2) put a zipper on at least one of the side pockets (in addition to the phone pocket) so that cash/credit card/keys/etc. can be carried more securely.

I've gone through many different shorts, and these are by far my favorite. This is because they have streamlined but usable side pockets for GU (or whatever) and a back zipped pocket where you could securely keep a phone or keys, etc. Of course, the fit and performance are perfect (for me at least).

I've been running in Sherpa shorts for at least a decade. I was a bit skeptical of the elastic waistband/draw string combination, but thought I'd give it a try. Glad I did! Perfect fit (I'm 5'9" w/33" waist), natural feel and the back pocket is just right for my phone.

I love these shorts! I got them specifically because of the pockets/storage capacity and design so that I can carry gels and my phone during races. I have used them for multiple long rungs already, carrying 3-4 gels distributed between the side pockets, and my phone in the back zipper pocket. I do notice my phone bouncing a little bit during the first few minutes, but then after that it doesn't bother me at all (I'm just happy to have a pocket that my phone can fit in instead of having to use a belt on every run). The wide waistband is a little different, but I find it comfortable. The wider waistband sits up a little higher on my hips than some of my other shorts. Overall, these shorts are super comfy and excellent for carrying nutrition products on longer runs.

I wrote a critical review of the last generation of these shorts based on the useless side pockets, so I'm coming back to give Brooks credit for addressing that issue. These are exactly what I'm looking for in shorts with some storage. And I had no issues with the prior waistband, but for what it's worth I like this one better.

I was hesitant to spend so much on a pair of running shorts (I don't spend that much on pants, which would be worn more often, but you know how it goes with running gear) but boy am I glad I did. This are exceptional shorts and I've already ordered another pair. My boxers are a bit longer than these are, so it literally felt like wearing nothing. And since the Brooks motto is to make you forget you're wearing their gear, this nails that concept. Super light, super comfortable, I can't wait to get summer runs in with these shorts. These will definitely be what I wear for future marathons. It's sometimes hard to find the right, perfect pair of shorts. Now that I've found mine, I'm going to do my best to pass on the word to others. Great product, hope they stick around and keep up the quality.

Nearly everything about it is outstanding. The new, updated classic Sherpa 5" short is even better than the tried and true past versions. I would like to suggest having a liner-free version so as to make it even more practical for other endeavors besides running -long-distance trail hiking, for example .

These are the shorts I've been waiting for. Very comfortable and lightweight, plenty of storage, including a back pocket that actually holds a phone without bouncing or feeling awkward. I'll be buying a few more pair of these.

Reliable, great side pockets for carrying gels and a secure zipper pocket. Waist band slides around a bit and the liner inside has a strange fit, sort of tight but with loose holes around the legs.

Love these shorts. The 5" inch is great, they are tight enough to my legs and hug my waist well so that they don't moving during any movements. I use them for running, weightlifting, and playing volleyball. The pockets are quite small, my phone sticks halfway out when I have it in there. It's enough to hold it while walking but would fall out while running. Ultimately, these are great workout shorts that are now my go-to shorts.

Generally a solid pair of shorts, but I felt that the pockets bounced too much when loaded with enough gels for a marathon. For shorts with this many pockets I had hoped they would be a little better at carrying the load nicely.

No zip phone pocket on thigh as shown in photos. Zip pocket on rear waistband does not fit any standard phone in 2024. A great fitting short lacking basic functionality for modern runners. Disappointed and returned.

Great fit in waist that keeps phone tight against lower back when running. Lots of pockets for gels on long runs. My reason for 4/5 stars is that the liner has a somewhat thonglike fit that doesn't fully give me a wedgie but is kind of close- I've never had this problem from a Brooks pair of shorts before, or any other brand for that matter.
