The out-of-the-box fit has always been stellar with the s/lab Ultra - since it's original version. The fit of the 3rd generation is even more dialed lending itself to be a great technical trail shoe. I feel like the cushion is a bit more plush compared to v.2, which makes me happy. I love the snug collar that does a great job at keeping leaf debris out of the shoe.

When I first tried the ultra 2 model I felt I found the perfect trail shoe for my foot. So I ordered a pair of these ultra 3's as soon as they came out. I had to get used to the ankle gator but now I really like it, and the shoe is a bit more roomy than the ultra 2, more forefoot cushion, breathes better, and probably has a more durable shell. The inside of the shoe still has that moleskin texture that I love. When I put these on it feels like putting on a sock. The tread is just right to where it grabs on just about everything while not too aggressive. I also prefer the moderate heel to toe drop like these have. I run in over a dozen different trail shoes and Salomon ultras are my favorite, no other shoe is so tuned to my foot.

My Ultra 3 now has over 10,000 meters of elevation and just over 300km on them. The verdict is that the ride is very similar to the Ultra 1 and 2, but the uppers are the game-changer. They took all the problems with the old shoe (I went through 5 pairs in 2 years all due to upper failure) and have now made a near-perfect, comfortable, long-distance, responsive one. This is not a shoe to jump into and run 100 miles. It's a minimal shoe and takes some conditioning to build distance but once you've done that I'm confident that anyone that wants some speed and response from their long-distance shoe would love these. The new super comfortable upper has made much more room for my toes and the padded tongue stops any sore spots with the tight Salomon lace system. Actually with the new integrated sock (very cool) I hardly ever stop to retighten my laces. With the old models, I'd do this at every substantial downhill. All in all, an amazing improvement and I'm super happy with the improvements. So far I can't find a flaw but 1 desired improvement would be a bit more protection on the side of the upper just above the ball of my feet. Once in awhile, I'll slip off a small sharp rock and it will jab me in the side of the foot. Small detail. These are by far the best distance trail shoe I've used so far.

The shoes feel very comfortable - blister free straight out of the box! I'm very happy with the grip and ground feel even though they have plenty of cushioning. This is the shoe I've been looking for!

Love these shoes! Great fit like the Ultra 3s and great response on the trails. Fresh out of the box and they're comfy for long distance. Love the improved tweaks and overall fit. Highly recommend for the routes that are mostly trail based.

This is a significant improvement over the a Ultra pros and S/lab Ultra 2. They have more cushioning under fore foot and have some kind of heel moldable locking system (molds around heel) so no shifting in heel. I just did a 90+ brutal trail run with intention of swamping these out at 40k for my S/lab ultras but I just kept on running these awesome shoes!

Loved my last pair of Ultra 2's bit these are much better! The built in elastic short ankle gaiter is a very welcome feature. The extra padded tongue a nice new feature. I am a very active trail and mountain runner and have put these to the test over the last 300 plus miles. Absolutely love these Ultra 3 shoes.

I have just received the shoe today. I ran with the Salomon SLab Sense Ultra, always have regretted that i did not buy more pairs of those. Was a great shoe. The SLab Ultra 2 was great but different to the Sense Ultra. But the feel of the 3 brings us back to the Sense Ultra just better. Looking forward to run many miles with them. Great shoe and a great company. Bravo Salomon

One of my favorite trail running shoes was the S/LAB Ultra Sense, which was light, responsive, and rugged; it also captured a total feel for the trail below my feet. Never had a felt a shoe that felt like it was a sock; I was in love. The Ultra Sense appeared to be replaced with the S/LAB Ultra, which was a good shoe, yet, it felt clunky and unfortunately, lost that feel of the trail the Ultra Sense had. Well, that instantly changed with the S/LAB Ultra 3, as Salomon has recaptured the spirit of Ultra Sense, but has improved on that design. The Ultra 3 upper is simply amazing and one of the best feeling upper's I've slid my feet into. The collar is revolutionary, not sure why more people haven't commented on that alone. Outside of my Sense Ride 3, these are now my go-to shoe's for longer distances. I just ran 18 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail and they blew me away with their comfort, responsiveness, and feel. Nice job Salomon! You guys regularly hit doubles and triples, but the Ultra 3 is a home run!

These are durable, light, fast, and still has cushion and responsiveness. The upper is much softer than previous versions and fits more to my foot. Love em for all around running.

The 1s and 2s were solid but the upper always would tear well before the shoes sole was finished. Now they have the upper from their other top of the line shoes that I love and have never had a problem with. These are my new go tos!

I have run in a number of salomon shoes but this is their best trail shoe yet. I felt that the 2 was almost there but the increased padding in the upper, deletion of the wing and very similar ground feel, I am loving it. Get it!

I loved the Salomon Sense Ultra. The first version! I feel this is the first versions sole with a improved upper. Tight gator keeps debris out. The tongue is perfect. I did a 12 and 16 mile in this shoe. I did not have to dip in the shoe at all. Perfect out of the box.

Having worn the S/Lab Ultra since its inception I was naturally looking forward to this upgrade. Initially the fit seemed to be great with no major issues, and several longer training runs went well. However having recently used these for a 100km race I have found them to be tighter than usually in the toebox and both my outer toes started to hurt from about 50km. I'm not sure if this is a planned change with the toebox by Salomon, or caused by the Matrix material, but it certainly needs the design team to take a look at this. One other issue that has always been present is the tightness of the 'debris gaiter' and also the size of it; I personally think it should be extended further up the ankle and made slightly tighter as debris still manages to get into the shoe via this route. Yes it is a good shoe but it could be better with a couple of alterations. I would recommend this shoe to others but with the warning about tighter toebox.

Ive been searching for the best replacement for the Salomon Sense Pro 4. This seems to be the closest match I've found. Good cushioning, nice snug fit where it needs to be on desents, but REALLY wish they would update the lugs to a 4.5-5 mm lugs. The contragrip is my favourite, but soft and wears down fast, especially if you run a lot of rock and slab. Overall good shoe. Could be better.

I've done a few ultra's in these shoes now and have racked up about 150 miles on them. I have a pair of the V1s and have put 810 miles on them to there point there's nearly no tread left. They say the shoe is the same as the V1s but with a new upper that makes the shoe lighter. From my experience it is very similar but I have a major problem with them. The new upper is a lot tighter and I still havent been able to break them in to the point where they are comfortable, I also find the new upper less breathable. My second major gripe is that the foam padding on the heels make my heels chafe (same issue with the polestar pro's). I have 3 pairs of the s/lab sense pro 8s with 800+ miles on all three of them which also have the heel padding and never had any issues. There just seems to be something weird with the heel padding on the polestar pros and these new V2s If you dont have any heel chafing in these new ultra 3s v2 I would totally recommend these.

The only pair of runners that help keep my mind on the task at hand, and not pondering about the comfort or fit of my shoe. Having a bit of a narrow foot, these hold my foot in place and my mind on running. Love them.
