I am now on my third pair of S/LAB ULTRA 3 because of their performance on all types of terrain. They are great for rocky technical trails but also amazing for soft loam and gravel. They have a supportive and grippy sole that also provides the cushion you need if you're going the distance. If you're going for a short or long distance run you won't be let down by their comfort for even those who have one of the widest foot (my foot is on the wide side of things).

These are my favorite ultra distance shoes. The soles are a little harder than some of the other brands but I don't get blisters or any other feet issues from these shoes like I do in some of the other brands. The bottoms will wear quickly if you run on asphalt. I have limited mine to dirt only and they have almost now signs of wear after 300+ miles.

I don't often write reviews but I decided to make an exception. I've been running in the Ultra 3 for 4 months and it has become my favorite trail shoe. I pondered for 6mo before pulling the trigger on this shoe. I'm a Solomon guy- I've run in the Sense Ride, Sense Ride 2 GTX, Speedcross, XA pro, s/lab sense 5 and the Ultra 3 is now my go to. I prefer a snug fit, and I have a "standard width" foot and this shoe fits like a glove. I usually wear an insert in other shoes but I feel stable in this shoe. It is not a quick slip on but it's not difficult to get into; maybe it would be an issue in transition in a Xterra triathlon. The shoe feels light and is very good under foot protection in rocky terrain. The grip seems very good even on steep descents. I have run in light mud and it did well but I haven't run in them on a rainy day. The front lace pouch is truly not a problem but it's small. Definitely wear ankle or higher socks, not no show, as to not get ankle irritation. My longest run was a 12 mile 3000ft/3000ft mountain run and it performed great up and down. So just buy it maybe look for a 10-15% off sale and get it. Run in it regularly, not just for a race. The shoe is a pleasure to run in and a fabulous shoe certainly for up to mid to marathon distance.

This is my second pair of this version. It has adequate cushioning and excellent protection underfoot. My only gripe is how snug the upper is, but that could be a positive if you like a uniformly compressed fit. I could comfortably run this shoe without snugging the laces down. As far as fit goes, I usually wear a 10 in all running shoes and even in the sense ride. I wear a 9.5 in these. They fit like the sense pro for me.

I started using the SLab Ultra with its second iteration. I used 3 pairs of them. I absolutely loved them until the SLab Ultra 3 came out. I just bought my 4th pair, having already used and abused 3 pairs on a series of 50 miles to 100 miles races and adventures. These are the best. They ar every light and responsive. Yet they provide surprisingly good cushioning on very long runs. Super precise, very stable, and with I think one of the very best grips on the market, I highly recommend to any competitive ultra runner. These fit my feet like a glove, once on (they can be a little tricky to put on because of the narrow entry to the shoe- but that is also what gives it such a snug and comfortable fit).

I first bought this shoe 8 months ago. I'm a female who had to order a male size, the directions on how to size were easy to understand and spot on. I wore this shoe constantly on the Colorado trails. It light and flexible yet very tough on technical trails and the seal around the ankles does a great job of keeping out debris. I've always like Salomon shoes, but sometimes they were too narrow with too much lug. This shoe provides a wider toe box, but there is zero slippage because of the lace system. Love them so much I bought 2 more pairs so I'd have them on hand to rotate in.

I love these shoes! I have had every version of the S/Lab Ultra, and the 3 has brought back some of my favorite features. The grip is amazing as usual and the shoe is a perfect balance; supportive and cushioned yet lightweight and agile. I recently raced a trail marathon in the Catskills in this shoe and it was perfect. The only downside to this version was that I had to size down, which surprised me after wearing this shoe for several years now and consistently being the same size. I'm not sure why the sizing would be different on this version than normal, but once I got the right size it has been great.

This is my second pair. I had signed up for a 50K that was scheduled in 3 weeks. I could not find a pair of my "usual" shoes and bought my 1st pair of S/LAB Ultra 3s to use for the race. My first run out of the box was a 20+ miler and the shoe was fantastic. Secure footing for most surfaces and comfy all day. My only knock would be that they are not grippy enough on ice patches or wet slippery rocks - that could be improved. Luckily, I live in the desert. Second pair has been as good as the first.

Great all around trail shoe. Yes it is harder to get on and do the laces up, but unless you are worried about 10 extra seconds during a triathlon transition, you've got a great fit and end up with 95% less debris getting into your shoe! Yes the lugs seem to wear faster than normal, but I'm not sure you can have both amazing traction and extra longevity in the same shoe. I've used these on several off trail traverses this summer and they performed so amazing, I could care less if they wore out a little quicker than normal.

I bought these about a month ago and have put just over 100 miles on them. As soon as I put them on, I couldn't help but go for a run! I was having some over use injuries from my last shoes being too hard and stiff and these were a nice flexible upgrade. The fit is just right, the cushion is soft without over doing it, and they feel comfortable to be my dedicated training shoe. I run about 3-4 times a week, ranging from 20-30 miles each week on a mixture of road and trail. I'll be sticking to these shoes for awhile!

Just used these on a 3 day section J hike in Washington. That's almost 25 miles per day and 16,000 vertical feet. They literally took a pounding through varied terrain and held up incredibly. Just bought another pair so I have a backup. From dirt, scree, talus, rivers and more - they did an amazing job with support, speed and traction. I finished w/o a single blister when paired up with Smartwool sicks.

I bought these shoes to replace my well worn Ultra/Pros and am not disappointed. They fit similarly in both toe box and shoe size. Most importantly, they remain comfortable even after 10 hours of technical running. I'm also super impressed with the drainage of these shoes as I often find myself crossing creeks or in rainy conditions. The lugs are decent enough for everyday trails though I'd want something a bit bigger for muddy conditions. Will definitely buy a second pair when I can find my size.

I have been trail running and speed hiking in Solomon's exclusively for MANY years and view my Ultra 3's as bulletproof over long distances and across diverse terrain. They were my weapon of choice when summiting the Middle Teton with my kids this summer and were the perfect blend of comfort, grip and durability. These shoes have so many applications and I will be interested to see how they compare with the Salomon Ultra Glides that I just ordered.

I have never been let down by Salomon and the ultra 3, SLab's were no exception. Grip is impeccable and I could run long out of the box. Sock liner keeps the rocks and debris out and the comfort level from 100 k to 100 miles is exactly what I needed. Once more Salomon has produced a winner.

Now on my second pair of the Ultra 3 as I use them for all trail running and trail races above around 20k (for anything less, I race in the Amphibs). Really love how comfy the Ultra 3's are, largely thanks to the sock-like fit and lace-lock. Good amount of stiffness in the sole and plenty of traction. Wearing of sole is to be expected given how many miles I put into them. Only downside is that I don't love the colours (they're fine, but not as good as some of the other s/lab designs). Hoping for some good colours with the Ultra 4!

I have had these for quite a while, over 200 miles on the 1st pair and just bought a 2nd backup pair. The comfort goes all day and all night if you need it to. This shoe has a much more durable upper material than previous models yet it still maintains superior breathability and they drain quite quickly after moving through river and creeks. This shoe is amazing.

I really like these shoes. They're not perfect, but they're close. I've put almost 100 miles on them in about a month. This shoe reminds me of a cross between my old S-Lab wings and my old Sense Pros. The ground feel is perfect. On rocky trails, it protects my feet just the right amount while still providing a connected feel. I have run on technical dry rocky trails, gravel roads, and packed singletrack and they excel everywhere. I even have run a bit on paved roads, and I like them there too. Great for door to trail! I can't speak to how they would be in mud. Very happy with the drop and tread pattern. I will mainly be using these as a training shoe and don't have plans to race any ultras. The longest day I've run in these is about 13 miles and they performed great. One complaint I have is the lace pocket. There's no pull tab on the pocket to lift up on so you can stuff the quick lace in there. It's a bit of a pain at first, but you get used to it. Also, it would be cool if they were a bit lighter. They're not heavy, but for S-Lab, I would think they would've gotten the weight down some more. Also, I feel this shoe runs large. In other brands I'm usually a 9.5, but occasionally a 9. The 9.5 in this shoe was too big, so I went with a 9. An 8.5 might even work, but I didn't try on that size. In comparison I wear a 9.5 in the Speedcross and a 9.0 in the Wildcross. Try them on if you can. For me these are a 9/10!

I always grab my S/LAB Ultra 3 trail shoes for longer trail runs. The have enough cushion to get me comfortably through long days without feeling heavy or unresponsive. It's hard not to use them as my daily trail shoe! However, I would probably consider using a different Salomon shoe for more technical trails.

I used to buy Nike shoes exclusively before I finally decided to give Salomon a try, and I got a lot more than expected. This shoe was incredibly comfortable right out of the box and it didn't need to be broken in before putting some serious miles on it. The sole is incredibly grippy and I'm now running with more confidence on rocky and otherwise technical trails. I haven't run in wet or muddy conditions yet, but I'm sure they'll perform just as well. My only negative critique is the lacing system. I have a hard time tucking the excess into the little pocket on top of the tongue because it's underneath the laces. I've figured out how to make it work, but I'd like for it to be higher up on the tongue so it could be more accessible.
