My husband loves these, I will update my review if he changes his mind, we've only gone for 2 walks in them! He loves the style, fit, comfort, great colors. He wears a size 10 in running shoes and he bought a 10 and they feel great. If they hold up on the trails, will definitely buy again.

Made my first purchase of Olympus 4 the end of November2021. Purchased a second pair the second week of December 2021.
I have foot issues and finding a comfortable shoe is always an issue. The Olympus is pricey but worth the expense if you want true comfort and support. The toe box is not only wide but tall and very forgiving. The wide platform Vibram sole adds great stability and traction. I have no heel slip and enjoy the fact that I can walk long distance in comfort.

I purposefully bought a half size UP on the Olympus (10.5, not my usual 10 in ALTRA) to accommodate injinji toe socks, so far, so good. These are giant, comfortable, cushy, trail muffins. They are a lot of shoe, but you know this already, right? They will see me through my first ultra training phase and into the summer, too, for the long suffer-fest coming in 2022.

Quality and comfort of these shoes are the bomb. It is light and durable all terrain shoes and comfortable to wear all day. I would buy it again and I highly recommend these.

I do daily 6-7 mile power walks on volcanic rocky trails. If you do any thing like this, this shoe is for you.

So I have had the Lone Peaks and the TIMPs and loved both of those shoes. I did a lot of research and have found that the new versions of Lones and TIMPs are not as well made as previous editions. I called the folks at Altra and they are working on fixing these versions. I saw a video that said the first edition of the Olympus were the max cushion shoes they made, then the TIMPs, then Lone peaks... It seams like now the cushion on the TIMP is like the Lone peak, and then the Lone is even less than it was before making it a very grippy, but limited cushion shoe. I decided to get the Olympus 4s and they do feel like the gen 1 version of the TIMPs (maybe with a bit more cushion). I have been wearing them for about 3 weeks and LOVE them! Very well made and comfortable. Do your research and make sure that these are the ones for you.

I've had a pair Olympus for about two months now and they've been a game changer. Perfect for longer runs & ultras, and for recovery days when my lighter Timps (which I also love) don't quite give the level of cushion that I need. My only recommendation to prospective buyers that are accustomed to other Altra trail shoes is to consider going slightly smaller than usual or trying them on in a store so you're sized right (if buying online). A great shoe!

Great shoe that fits my foot perfectly. It reminds me a lot of the Lone peak 3 but with more cush an a lil bit of rocker. It doesn't feel as heavy as it looks. I think one of the things that Altra has dialed in is the ability to make a wide shoe that doesn't pucker over the vamp. Love it.

I had the Lone Peak but it didn't have enough support for pronation. This one does.

Did several Ling backpacking trips with these in the Sierras. They worked perfect. I have very wide forefoot so these are the only shoe that works now since lone peak were redesigned. I actually prefer the extra cushion anyway. I wore toe sock liners then Darn toughs over them. Zero hot spots, zero blisters. Best my feet ever did. The unexpected plus was the wide sole of these provided a great advantage when doing a long section of sandy trail between chicken spring lake and Rock Creek. The only grip is the constant need to stop and cinch the laces frequently. I do before a decent anyway but these shoes require cinching more often. It's a bit difficult to cinch the toe section and keep it tight while cinching the upper. Takes figuring out a system. Still very very happy with this shoe. Plan to do the PCT in these in 2023. Stocked up just in case.

Onto my 3rd pair now with several hundred trail miles on each previous pairs. Slightly more narrow compared to Lone Peaks. Great cushioning and improved durability. The tongue is then yet functions well. Hoping the 4.5's stay true to this approach.

Just ordered my fifth pair. The first pair was the gen 1 version and they keep getting better. Olympus provides excellent support and cushioning for hectic 12-hour shifts in a hospital where step count is often 19k/10+ miles. Several nurse friends have ordered Olympus and are raving about it, including that they reduce or eliminate lower back, knee and plantar fasciitis pain during long shifts.

Hiked 1500+ miles of the AT with these. Each lasted 600+ miles ( support would only last about 500 but fine with insoles). Comfortable and would hardly feel anything under my feet!

These are excellent shoes. I've gone through a handful of lonepeak runners and hikers, but was ready for more cushion. These are the ticket! The Olympus run 1/2 size larger than the lonepeak. I went back and forth a bit on sizing but ended up 1/2 size down. I can't recommend these enough. Plenty of cushion but not too much like you get from a hoka (I tried a Hoka but ended up with plantar fasciitis and rolled ankles after a few runs.)
If you have wide feet, these are it!

Well made. Excellent fit, Very comfortable. Max cushioning with great stability. I have owned all previous versions of the Olympus line. I have been happy with all previous versions. The Olympus 4 is no exception. There is a slight increase in length of the middle toe box area which is a positive for me.

I wish it came in another single color like soft gray. Black is fine, but the rest are too bright for golf shoes. Having 0 drop, trail shoe tread, and a strong base makes them perfect for golf.

ive been hiking daily in the nf for over 30 years, this shoe has teh easiest stride strike that ive ever experienced. it really minimizes joint stress and fatigue, unlike anything. just make sure teh shoes toe box isnt stressed, because it fits too tight, or the seam might split. i have an older olympus model

Of the Altra shoes I've owned this is the best. I have 3 pair of the Olympus 4 and plan to buy more before they update this model. I agree with the other reviews calling for more durability from Altra shoes but this is the most durable model I've used. I contribute the durability to the reinforced toe, stack height and Vibram sole. The Vibram sole grips the wet rocks of the Pacific Northwest trails very well. I've not felt completely secure on wet rock with Altra's other trail runners. The stack height is plenty thick to protect from sharp rocks but still provide the foot with a sense of what's beneath it. The reinforced toe is just thick enough to protect from glancing blows on rocks and roots while minimizing weight. I use this shoe for everyday work and leisure, road runs (yes it has become my road shoe), trail runs, hiking and backpacking. I average around 35-45 miles running per week and an additional 5-10 miles work and leisure. There are between 150-300 miles on each of my three pair. I have observed no rips, cuts or tears. I am 6'3", 210 lbs and wear a 12.5. The fit is perfect but not sock-like like an Escalante 1.5. The foot feels protected but comfortable. I've had no hotspots. Hope this helps, buy with confidence. If you buy direct from Altra they put a return label in the box in case you don't like them. LOVE THAT!!! Thank you Altra!

Perfect amount of compression for me. Excellent confidence on loose terrain for my bad ankles. Not heavy considering the amount of shoe you're getting, superbly built. Not too lugged out or rough on when mixing up some pavement with trail. I'm a 12-12.5 with wide feet. Size 12 feels custom built with proper space.
Bio on me - Big Hoka fan for almost a decade due to lightweight and good compression. I wear a 12.5 in Hoka. I'm a heavier runner (175lb) who enjoys big elevation runs with easy on the ankles descents (nothing for me to prove running downhill fast like a Jackalope). Their trail shoes offer zero confidence in stability by comparison and not nearly as bulletproof for what nature brings.

I use the Olympus for running dirt trails. I get about 600 miles out of one pair. Then they are retired to hiking for a few hundred more.
