I normally wear a 7 in men's shoes, but ended up with a 7.5 to get a little extra length and width. Love the toe room that Altra offers and the 0 drop between heel and toe. I wear these for walking on pavement and trails. Great stability and comfort. I would definitely buy these again.

I never write reviews. I felt it was called for here. Simply put, these shoes are amazing. I have run in all versions of the Escalante. I loved the first version. The 1.5 was okay, but the upper was too stiff and the midsole was too firm. I liked the 2's a little better, but they were also to rigid and firm and were still far from the original. The 2.5's, I think, are better than the original. The midsole is soft but bouncy, the upper is very comfortable, and they have more lateral stability than the original. For me, they are also very versatile and I use them for fast runs as well as long runs and everything in between. I have run in and experimented with a lot of different running shoes. These shoes are right up there with the best running shoes I have used. Keep it up Altra!

Absolutely love these. Stylish, high-quality shoe. The wide toe box is perfect for my foot. The footbed support is fantastic. Looking for a second pair now!

If you're not used to zero drop shoes, here's your introduction. These make you work more of those muscle fibers in your feet and calves. Takes time to get used to less cushion but it is worth it. Wide toe box so your toes can wiggle around.

Super comfortable with a soft upper and snug heel and ankle fit, but plenty of width in the toe box obviously. They "sock-like feel" remind me a little of allbirds sneakers but construction feels much higher quality.
I alternate these escalante 2.5s with a more minimal barefoot style shoe brand with zero cushioning. I can switch back and forth between the two seamlessly. My other (more barefoot style) shoes keep me honest on good form and keep my foot muscles strong, but these altras have just enough cushion to let me to add the distance I want without getting injured, or forcing me to sacrifice form (because of the zero drop and wide toe box). Exactly what I was looking for.

Tried a pair of Rivera's...just not for me. They were my least favorite Altra ever and I've been through about 7 pairs of road and trail shoes now. Unfortunately I severely sprained my ankle just before they arrived so I never unboxed them until the 30 day return window had lapsed so I never returned them, just moved on to these. As soon as I slid them on my feet I felt like I was in the old Torin 4's that I loved so much. I only have about 30 miles on them, 13 of which was the run of a 70.3 but I love these so far. Probably order more before they can change them.

I use these to trail run. They provide exceptional grip, comfort, rock feel. They are lightweight, flexible and give me the minimalist feel that I desire. The Escalante's provides the best traction of any trail runners I have ever worn in all conditions.

I put way too many miles on my Esc1.0 (like 600+) so I figured it was time to replace them. I have read a lot about issues with the 1.5 & 2.0. Seems they fixed it with the 2.5. I love these things. They kept the midsole I loved and improved the upper so they're flexible but offering just enough support. My only complaint @ all is that they removed the 2nd top loop removing the ability to lace lock.

This is my second escalante and I liked it better than the 2.0. I find the heel of the 2.0 to be thin and stiff. It has been improved in the 2.5, offering more padding and support. Tongue seemed to stay in place with the v-shape design. I've taken it for a couple of 6 mile runs and felt great. Another great shoe from altra.

I'm a trail runner but once in awhile I don't want to drive to the trails and just want to run from my house so I bought these for my road running days. I only have a handful of miles on these so I can't really speak of longevity. However, the fit is great and they are very comfortable to run in. Im running a fairly flat trail marathon this year and am seriously considering wearing these instead of my Lone Peaks. I do feel like my feet get a little hotter in these but that might just be me. Only thing that is missing is the runner knot eyelet but I have a grommet kit so I can add if needed.

I have been transitioning to zero drop shoes since Jan 2021. I started with Torin Plush to ease the transition to the Escalantes 2.5. after 6 months the Escalates feel more natural to me than the Torins. I bought a second pair of Escalates 2.5 to alternate shoes.

Amazingly comfortable. Plenty of toe room, yet supportive, and easy to get on and off. I bought a pair a month ago and loved them so much I ordered another pair for when they need to be replaced; I like them that much. Also, I've received positive comments about their looks.

Just ordered two pair of these in green after running in the Torin 4.5 plush for the past year and they feel amazing. I'll caveat with the fact that I haven't run a single mile in these but they feel lighter and less bulkier than the Torins. The upper is all mesh and feel more like a sock but should have great breathability. The Torin plush took a while to get used to with all of the extra cushion but I was able to put in long miles without feeling fatigue. Remains to be seen for the Escalantes but I'm excited. These feel more like some of the earlier Torins I used to wear back in 2014. I'll follow up with an update after I put some miles on them.

I'm 42 and 300 pounds. Been very hard with flat feet to stand or walk or play sports my whole life. Nothing has ever worked. I couldn't walk more then 2500 steps a day without extreme pain in my feet. Knees, hips, calfs and ankles. I love the feelings of a morning walk. I took a risk and purchased these shoes. The 1st week my feet hurt. 2nd week it got better. Now it's been about 4 weeks and the pain it 100 percent gone. I waked 10000 steps today with no pain at all. It's so amazing. I fact when I get home and remove these shoes. That is when my body becomes sore. If I put the shoes back one tbe pain is gone. These are Magic Shoes. Will definitely buy a few more pairs for the future.

I am 79, my running days are done.Had metatarsal surgery rod, screws, etc., which broke! This is my second pair of Altra shoes. I am able to get an orthopedic insert underneath your foam insert. Lots of room for my toes. Thanks for a great product.

Tried some escalantes in the past and did not like how loose the material in the toes was. This model seems to stretch in the toes but is in no way excessive. Enough cushion for long runs yet light and fast for those interval days. Will buy another pair for sure.

I don't love the way my Escalante's look, but they make up for ho-hum styling by being the most comfortable shoe I've ever put on my foot. These are my go-to shoe for my daily run. I do mix things up a bit with Hoka's and Saucony's just to give my feet some variety, but it's always a relief to come back to the Escalante and they pile up more miles than the other shoes by far. The wide toe box, the springy evo midsole. You just can't beat them. I keep alerts set online and snap them up if they go on sale.

As a diabetic shoes are so very important to my foot care. The extra width gives my toes that room to move around and get exercised to keep the blood flowing freely. I have spent a small fortune looking for shoes that I am really comfortable in and are actually a benefit to my health.
As walking and exercise are very important for diabetic care my search is over.
I will be purchasing more Altra shoes in the future, there is no doubt about it.
