I love the Altra brand and have been a fan of the Torin series, but these are the worst pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. While its a handsome shoe, in the course of a week worth of running they’ve trashed my feet. I am a marathoner and being in the off-season have kept tame milage with these. My heels feel like they’re on fire after wearing them. I thought maybe that shoe had a flaw, so I opened up my spare set of these I ordered at the same time and no change. I tried giving my feet 10 days away from these shoes to heal, and sure enough after one 10K run my feet were trashed again. I wish I could get a refund for them, but I unfortunately can’t and it was an expensive $300 lesson after foolishly buying two pairs of these and one pair of the regular torin 4.5’s. I wish Altra would stop messing with a perfect recipe like the torin 2 and 3 series were, because the 4’s are garbage. I strongly recommend only buying one pair of these, save your box, and make sure they don’t ruin your plantar muscles.

Liked the shoe but after 1 week and 2 walk/runs in them the material on the tongue came apart and the foam inside the tongue fell out.
I wore these 4 or 5 times and only 2 workouts. Hopefully a fluke of some sort but sending them back.

Have been a big fan of Altra and have owned several Torin's including the Torin 4. The Torin 4.5 had less upward toebox room and sadly while overall a great shoe didn't work for my foot.

I love this shoe! I’m not a runner, but have some foot problems including a fusion of my right great toe. My foot is narrow but I require a wide toe box for comfort. I work in a busy hospital operating room and had real trouble finding a comfortable pair of shoes. A co-worker recommended Altra about a year ago so I tried a pair of Torin 4.0s. They were the most comfortable shoe I’d ever worn at work. Just replaced that pair with the Torin 4.5 plush, and it’s like I’m walking on clouds. The support is cushy but comfortable, the upper is very comfortable and I like the restyled heel part of the shoe. I can’t imagine ever wearing anything else on these hard, unforgiving hospital floors.

This is my fourth time buying a version of the Torins. The shoe seems to fit the same as the previous models. This plus version however has extra cushioning under the heel and ball of the foot. The knit fabric breathes really well.

I wanted to like these. The foot-shaped width in the toe box is awesome. Unfortunately, that width seems to have come at the cost of height. The rubberized reinforcing around the lacing area prevents any stretch across the top of the foot, and there simply wasn't enough material. The shoe felt like it was pinching and crushing the top of my foot. Plenty of width, plenty of cush, all let down by a missing centimeter's worth of material across the top.

Fit and size are true. I wear 11 and these are 11. Altra's are foot-shaped shoes, so the toebox is shaped like your feet, gives room for toes to splay which I love. The cushioning on these is like walking on air, so comfortable. The uppers are very soft, comfortable, and no hot spots.

Bought this shoe recently and I am very impressed. The midsole is amazing. It's soft yet reflexive and propels you forward. There's also some wizardry where it feels like it's cradling your foot. The upper is super comfortable and you can feel wind blowing right through it so it's very breathable. The tongue and lacing system are perfect. You barely have to pull the laces to get a snug tie down. Heel cup fits perfect for me and the lining inside feels like you don't even need socks. On top of that the shoe feels very light, lighter than any altra I've run so far which is great for speed. Will need to put more miles on it to see how it holds up but so far one of the most comfortable running shoes I've owned. Main complaint I've seen is that it's narrow. I have about average width feet and they feel fairly roomy especially with the foot shaped toe box. Anyway pretty stoked on this shoe. Would recommend. Thanks altra.

One review I read before purchasing stands out as very true. Dialed in on sizing. Some people complain they are too narrow. That is not my experience. They do feel a tad more narrow than my loan peak 4s but not in a bad way. Heel is very locked in and toe box is roomy. The plush is just WOW! Can't wait to start logging some miles with them.

Like many reviewers, I found that the forefoot volume was too low and restrictive for a typical Altra. Deceptively so in that it was only after about twenty minutes of running that my pinky toe on each foot would go numb. I thought the shoe would break in, but no. In contrast, I run in the Lone Peak 4.5 and Escalante 1.5 with no issues. Taking the insole out worked, and although I think there will be occasions I will run it like that, you don't expect to have to do that in an Altra out of the box. I then came across the Lydiard lacing technique which literally transformed the forefoot volume of the shoe. No more issues with numbness. If you are a wide footed Altra fan, this may be the solution for you. This lacing technique is not like just loosening the laces, it's far more effective - google for instructions. Shoe feels great now. Exactly what I was looking fir for recovery and long runs. Outsole gives great grip on snow and road.

A bit short. Ordered a 13, my usual size in a Merrell, but these felt smaller. That said, could just be that I'm a 14 in denial of being a 14. (I shrink as I get older, yet my feet grow. Who wouldn't be in denial?) In Merrells, as mentioned, a comfortable 13, but definitely a 14 in the Brooks Ghost 10.
Years ago, was told that Brooks run small. Their 14 would be my 13. I surrender.
Aside from the size confusion: They looked great. Am a fan of the roomy toe-box. Surprisingly, however, these weren't easy to slip on; the heel counter was soft and needed to be held back a bit with a finger. Again, perhaps it's because I ordered the wrong size. With a bigger shoe or smaller foot, maybe none of these issues would have been issues.
Enjoyed the materials and color— mine were red. Found that the area beneath the heads of the metatarsals was too rigid; it hit me in precisely the wrong spot. Not so much a matter of size as design concept.
But please do try these Altras. If you get the correct size ( well, duh) and don't have issues with overly sensitive metatarsal heads, you may be delighted.
I'd also recommend:
Merrell, Brooks, Hoka

Loved the fit for my wider foot. Very comfortable for walking, but I prefer a bit more cushion for running.

Reviews for this shoe were all over the place so I purchased a pair of On Clouds (hated them). Purchased the Altras after and liked them so much I purchased a second pair.

These shoes have changed my life. I have a pinched nerve, a neuroma, in both of my feet from wearing too narrow shoes for too long. I've tried a dozen "wide" shoes over the years. They all still caused some pain. I discovered Altra shoes on a neuroma website. These Torin 4.5 are outrageously comfortable. I can now run with absolutely no pain. I bought several pairs. I also bought the 2.5 and they're super comfortable too, but they have a little less cushion so I prefer the 4.5, but I love them both.

This is the best iteration of the Torin since the 3.0 (the best running shoe ever made) Loving every step in them!

I use the shoe to train and race 140.6 and 70.3 Ironman. I still like the Torin 4.0 and bought two of these before they no longer exist. The Torin 4.5 upper is flexible which I like. I think the 4.0 and 4.5 cushioning are equivalent.

I have plantar fasciitis and do a lot of walking and have found these shoes to be fantastic. I took them out of the box and walked 5 miles, no break in period was necessary. Altra Torin 4.5 may not be the best choice for everyone but it is for me.

I have two pairs of Altra Torin Plush shoes that I "platoon" - the older pair for shorter runs, the new pair for longer runs. Trying to save the new pair for my June 16 marathon. I switched to Altra after running in Hokas and Brooks for years. The ride is exceptional and I love the space in the toe box. Have never had trouble with hot spots or blisters! I am an extremely happy Altra runner.

I used to use the Escalante and Racer but my right foot started having problems so I wanted something with more cushion. I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised, great cushioning.

I used to swear only by Merrell but had to look for new shoes after their running shoes started to resemble all the other brands. It took me a while but I am glad I found Altra.
This shoe has one of the widest toe boxes I have ever seen apart from the old Bare Access 2s that Merrell put out a few years ago. They weight next to nothing and are nicely cushioned. It feels like I’m walking on springy moss everywhere I go.
I am not a fan of the color options, per se, but I dislike the colors of most running shoes. That being said, there were at least a few understated-while-not-being-drab colors from which to choose and I am pleased with what I received.
Overall, this is a comfortable running shoe that functions between a traditional sneaker and a minimalist one. They are a tad expensive, all things considered, but the comfort makes them worth the price.

I bought these to replace a pair of Torin 4.0's. I was disappointed when they were no longer available. I decided to give the 4.5 plush a try. At first I thought they may be a little tight but after a couple of runs they felt just as comfortable if not more than my 4.0's. I'm glad I decided to buy these and would buy again.
