I bought the V9 because I wanted a waterproof trail shoe for my true 2E feet. Because I had tried many shoes without satisfaction (Icebug and all of REI's offerings), I was willing to risk the V9 in spite of it having a quick-lacing system.
After five months, this is what I have learned:
++ The Quicklace is superb! I just pull (on the handle) and tuck (into the tongue pouch). I have also not experienced the dreaded big toe pressure (where the lace crosses above the big toe) that others have reported with other quick-lacing designs.
+ Good balance between protection and feedback from the outer sole
- Contagrip is so-so on wet wood/roots
- Heel fit is modest. The sensation is of my heels pulling out a mm or two before every step. I'm used to a near-perfect fit with my other trail shoes. The V9's heel fit reminds me of the fit with hiking boots, but slightly better. I suspect that the close fit in the forefoot (see the next section) exacerbates the sensation that my heels are pulling out.
-- This is not a 2E out of the box. I'd rate it a does-not-exist 1E. Even though I expect any new shoe's upper to stretch to fit, my other 2Es (Nike and New Balance) conformed more closely to my feet out of the box.
I don't regret buying the V9. It certainly is the best of all the waterproof 2E shoes I tried. I just hope that it's built to be durable in terms of continuing to be waterproof and that the glued parts stay glued.

If like me you have size 13 feet and need a wide fitting you will find these shoes to be as comfortable, hard wearing and protective as ever they were. Sadly they're not widely available and you can have any colour you like as long as it's black.

I bought these approximately 7 years ago and they are my goto summer hiking shoe for the moderate to light terrain mountain trails. I also have spent many-a-day around the town wearing these and have been comfortable the entire time no matter the condition; the dry grip is 100%, wet grip or stream crossing wet rocks I'd say ~85%. The outside of the shoe is amazing and in great condition. The area that broke down on me from wear was not the outside but the heel box inside primarily the left and right side of the heel. (it is worn down to the hard plastic shell of the heel box so I am looking at replacement of them.) Overall well worth the cost to be able to get over 7 good strong years out of them using them as both a goto summer hiker as well as a goto city shoe (which means they got a lot more wear than the rest of the Salomons in my collection.

Love these shoes - build quality is excellent and look great. Only minor criticism is it's quite tricky to tuck the quick lacing buckle under the top of the tongue and then also tuck any excess lacing into somewhere . Otherwise great!

good fit and more breathable than I was afraid they would be. A solid boot for hiking etc. but was heavier than other products I tried for day to day use.

Felt true other than the toes. It rounds over to quickly and squishes my toes.

I wanted the previous version of these shoes but so far this model is good. It is a bit stiff at the beginning but you get used to it. The goretex make them a bit warmer. I would wear them when it's muddy or rainy

A great hiking shoe however not so much for concrete. Size was good, easy slip on/off, like the overall look, received in timely manner

Have used one version or another of this trail shoe for years. This pair was the usual solid performer over 50 miles of often boggy Thames Path walking.

As a regular buyer of Salomon shoes, I felt their shoes had become more of a narrow fit however, I went for the wide fit this time and felt it was a much more comfortable fit ( I don't regard my feet as wide) I've only been wearing my latest pair for a couple of months and so far very pleased with my purchase; great colour design and look good too

This is the 8th pair I buy in as many years, and not a single time have I been disappointed.
Excellent water proofing, warm in winter (excellent down to -10C), comfortable though a little bit too warm for summer. Always excellent hiking, backpacking, camping, in the mud or in the snow - and also is an eye catcher at the office.
Perhaps not as comfortable as flip flops, but is has superior grip and stability in all surfaces, from the rough to the slippery.

I like the shoes but one of them fits great and the other one has a tight spot in the arch that is a little uncomfortable and I've been wearing them for a month and it hasn't loosened up

I love my new pair of Salomon XA Pro 3D V8 GTX. I had previously bought a pair of Salomon Outline GTX, and I was happy with it. The first thing I noticed was the confortable toe box and that’s the first thing I was looking for when choosing a new pair. I am not disappointed with this new pair of Salomon XA Pro 3D V8 GTX. The toe box is roomy but still keep your toes tight together. I hate all those hiking/ walking shoes with pointy toe box. I was a little bit skeptical about the quick lace system but it turned out pretty convenient. The inside sole gives me a good arch support. I wear them for about 2-3 hours per day every day and I have not feel any discomfort since the first day of wearing them. This is a great pair of shoes and I hope they will last as long as my pair of Outline GTX.

These shoes were OK, but didn't last that long. I was able to get about 6 months out of these. Quite Frankly, I expect better from Salomon.

I like that the heel platform is not as pronounced as on previous iterations of this model. They were a bit stiff out of the box, but after one week of wear, they fit perfectly and are very comfortable. Time will tell how long they will last... all previous versions of this shoe that I purchased ripped on the top where the toe flexes, near where the quick laces attach. No signs of wear in that area yet. I'm really hoping Salomon have fixed that issue, making this the perfect shoe for me! Highly recommend at the moment!

The top puffy tongue of the shoe is not connected to anything and is always being ingested into the shoe by my foot unless I specifically hold it in place with my hands - this is annoying. The gore-tex makes the shoe less breathable causing sweaty feet in moderate and warm temps (50's F +) but is good in colder temps and in snow (below freezing). The sole of the shoe could be more aggressive as it's not great on snow and ice where the gore-tex seems to be most at home for regular use with wool socks.

I have bought a dozen pairs of these in various versions. I really dislike the bottom lace going diagonal across the toe box. I have to cut it off an tie it across.

Bought about a month ago. I didn't even look at the leases. When you tighten them you end up with a huge loop. Instructions state to tack that loop into a pocket on the tongue either down low or up. Very hard to get used to. And if these leases would break, their shoes would be useless because of the way they are formed.

I purchased the shoes for the cold and wet weather protection and they do that very well. The shoes are comfortable for the most part. I have had a problem with walking on side slant surfaces causing the sides of the down slope foot to be sore. Keeping the lacing tight would likely mitigate that, but the crux of that problem and a cause for general annoyance is the lacing system. It is very difficult to keep them tight and I likely will replace those laces with regular ones. Otherwise, this is a really good shoe especially for the cold weather.

After 5 minute walk around the block and the shoes make my body put too much pressure on my sesamoids and cause instant discomfort. I didn't have this problem with their Cross series (even though they're narrower). I'm not sure they require some time to break in but it's not a good sign. The shoes feel stiff and definitely heavier than other Salomon shoes. I really tried to love Salomon but it's sad to say that Salomon's anatomical design isn't for me.
