I bought these shoes for winter trail hiking. I've been having a hard time finding just the right fit in the toe box, toes have been unhappy. I was apprehensive order athletic shoes online and first time from this company. I WAS AMAZED! These shoes fit well, are comfortable and supportive for hiking. Not only did they fit well, they shipped within days. I was ready to hike a few days after ordering. Now I can't stop recommending them to friends.

Love the 4.5 version. Was skeptical to try but they're like walking on clouds. Shoe box a bit wider which I appreciate. Tongue has lace insert to keep it from shifting (hatedthis from all other styles)

I am not a runner but I'm a mom and wife. We spend lots of time outdoors and hiking/ camping... etc. I will not wear any other shoes ever! This is my second pair just simply because I adore the comfort and style all in one. My feet feel great at the end of a long day and they help my back, hips and legs as well, to not feel so fatigued. Zero drop is where it's at! Thank you Altra!!

I'm currently averaging about 140 miles a month of hiking. Mostly in rocky areas. These shows were perfect out of the box. I only added "Super Feet" arch support which I wear in all my workout shoes. I had zero blisters or rubbing problems. The only adjustment discomfort were my toes having extra room (the irony) for a week. I love the light weight of the shoes, grip on rocks, and toe box. The only con is the lack of support to the side walls of the shoe. It makes the shoe feel unstable at times. I hope they can somehow adjust this in the next model without compromising the lack of bulk.

I say this feels "true to width" but I have a wide foot, and nothing ever fits me as comfortably as these do! When I first tried these shoes on, I couldn't believe they how comfortable they were. I'm used to everything being too snug. And once I hit the trails with them I was very happy with the grip. My local trails are very dusty and sandy and I sometimes feel like I almost have too much confidence with my Altras.
As much as I love these shoes, I am starting to doubt the quality of the build. My first pair was the Lone Peak 4.0, and before I even had a chance to properly wear them, some stitching came apart across the laces. I exchanged them with the local shop and had no issues with my replacement pair. I wore them until I wore them out!
Once my 4.0s were worn down to almost nothing (I wore them a LOT) I got a pair of 4.5s. On my second or third hike with them some of the tread came off the bottom. Again, I was fortunate enough to be able to return them, but the shop was sold out so there was no replacement this time.
I also have a pair of the Lone Peak mid RSM which has also had some stitching fall apart, but nothing to hinder the performance (just a gaiter loop). I'll do a separate review for those - let's just say they're not as waterproof as I need them to be.
All in all these are still my favorite hiking shoes/ trail runners, and I'll probably keep buying them hoping for a solid pair. So I still give them 5 stars. I didn't notice significant differences between the 4.0 and the 4.5 like some people did.

This shoe is so comfortable right out of the box. I struggle to find hiking shoes that check all the boxes and this one does it - especially that wide toe box. My only critique would be it could use some additional toe
protection.

Have had multiple iterations of this shoe and I can't imagine a time where I won't be wearing these on the trails. I actually prefer this to the RSM version--even after tromping through ice into frigid water. Quick draining and more breathable. The bottoms really grip. Lightweight and cute colors (have had the purple, beige, navy, and now the poppy red).

Nice and lightweight shoes.
Fit super comfy first few days of wearing them so took them on a 14 Mile hike and they were perfect! i am a active hiker and always looking for wide shoes ( they are hard to find ) so i was nervous ordering these online,... but i stuck true to my size 7.5 and couldn't be happier. next shoe will be an Altra!

I usually wear womens 7.5 wide but purchased these in 8.5 medium width for hiking. I like the extra length in the toe box for downhills and the width of this brand feels great. I usually run in Brooks 7.5D /wide

My daughter recommended these. My feet are so very happy. I wear them all day with pleasure.
As a senior, it is important for me to have a "good understanding"!

Great shoes in every way! I first tried blue and my Morton's neuroma pain went away! My toes aren't pulled in the wrong direction! My favorite hikers, so I just bought another pair in bright Poppy for visibility where people hunt and ride mountain bikes at great speed. These shoes actually fit, feel great, and don't hurt or rub me wrong anywhere;-)

I use these shoes for miles of hiking or just everyday walking. The sole seems a better for hiking on rough terrain than an earlier model where I could feel the rocks too much. Albeit this shoe is not for super rocky terrain, but I would still recommend it for many types of trails. It has the wider forefoot altra is known for. (Which is a blessing for us that do not want our toes cramped like other athletic shoes and and this is what altras are designed for). This model seems a little narrower in the mid foot than a much older models so I feel it gives great stability and follows the natural design of many feet. Heel fits nicely too. Love this shoe. Wide forefoot for toe comfort without sacrificing the natural design of many womens midfoot and heel. I love altra shoes as long as they keep making it wide in the forefoot for those of us that understand that toes want to have room. Why do you think so many women end up in the podiatrist office- too many days of unhappy toes. Lost count of how many altras I have owned.

These are the only athletic shoes I've ever owned that I am comfortable in all day. Obviously they are great for trails, but I love them for whatever activity my day calls for. Will definitely be buying these again!

My podiatrist recommended these shoes because of the larger toe box. They are a dream to wear. I bought a half size up, which was recommended for the best fit and that is perfect.

I have been in varying degrees of pain/neuropathy with my feet and ankles for many years, and I have tried virtually every therapy, shoe, and orthotic I could find - usually with poor or fleeting results. But I am feeling very optimistic about the improvements I have sensed in just a couple of weeks of wearing this shoe. My foot muscles seem to be strengthening. I also seem to have a better sensation of the surface I am standing on. TRY these shoes! Be SURE to adjust to them very gradually if you are older or have longstanding foot problems.

These were my first pair of Altras. I was a little nervous because I had tried two different brands with "low" heel drops but didn't like them. They felt mushy when trying to push off and I hated that. These felt great, just enough cushion to feel comfortable but not mushy. Nice energy return. Not stiff or bulky. I run mostly groomed trails (think packed dirt, gravel, horse bridle paths) but occasionally more technical trails. They feel great. My only regret is that I didn't get the RSM version as I've gotten wet feet on muddy trails! I do love them anyway tho! Thanks Altra! I've already bought my second pair for the road and love them too (escalante 2.5)!

I can't remember a time when I have not worn Altra shoes. And I see no need to ever wear anything else. I love all my Altra shoes.

I'm a repeat Lone Peak buyer. So happy with the new "dark port" color this season. Please keep offering earthy colors in the future! Some of us don't want to wear neon-colored shoes while we're out on the trails.

I have used these shoes on a few 10 mile hikes and so far I could not be more impressed. The soles are comfortable on my foot, there is PLENTY of room in the shoe box, and the grip is amazing.
My favorite thing is the wide foot bed. I like this the most because my toes lay against each other in such a way that my toenails dig into their neighbor toe and especially when I hike and you get a little inflammation in your feet it can get worse...I have zero issues in these shoes. It's really quite amazing and leads to a much better experience hiking!
My husband wears these and I recommend them to everyone that asks!

I'm typically a minimalist when it comes to trail shoes, but I bought these for my work in a warehouse. I typically don't like too much between me and the ground, but the cement here is unforgiving. I was not having luck in clogs or boots, but these seem great! I'm getting cushion, but I dont feel like I'm bouncing around on foam. Can't feel the rock plate and the lugs feel pretty good too. Lightweight, even after 10 hour shifts. Almost wish I had a trail to try them on, but I'm living at sea level now. I will consider another purchase when these wear out.
