I have to preface that I love Altra shoes and currently wear the Graftons. Unfortunately, on the Lone Peak 4.5s, the band below the laces digs into my arches, making them really uncomfortable. I tried another pair of the same shoe in the hopes that it was just that particular pair, but it wasn’t. Will be returning, which is a real shame.

I have really tried to like these but there is just not enough cushion so they wear out really quickly.

I purchased these a little over a month ago and the fabric area on the ankle is already tearing. I am really disappointed that their quality control has gone down so much. I had the 2.5s which held up great and had a wide deep toe box and it seems like they are going more mainstream with a smaller toe box. The cushioning is also much less than in the past.

Ive been a fan on Altra Lone Peaks for a while now... and I didn't hesitate to buy the 4.5s when they arrived. However, now I am experience issues with the back of my ankle from rubbing. I'm sad to say that I will be looking for a different shoe to replace these...

I was so disappointed in this shoe! I loved the 4.0. Hikes the JMT in them; did a ton of trail hiking and running in them. Two major complaints about the 4.5 that have be retiring them almost immediately. The cushion is decreased - making the bottoms of my feet hurt on rocky trails. And they seem to have narrowed the middle of the shoe so I got pressure - and then pain - on the tops of my feet. Please bring back a model closer to the 4.0!!

I've had the 4.5 LonePeak for a week now, and I've been patiently trying to break them in. There's something about the top back of the shoe that is poking into the back of my ankle. It is quite uncomfortable. I've had to wear bandaids, to decrease the discomfort. I am now resigned to wearing my old 4.0 Lone Peaks until I can replace the 4.0's. If I could trade my almost brand new pair of 4.5's for the 4.0 I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks, Deena

I liked my 4.0's so without hesitation bought the 4.5. I'm am not pleased. I agree about the loop on the heel being too small to use for pulling on the shoes. They poke funny on my heels and now I have sores on both heals. I'm thinking maybe I need to break them in more (with bandaids on my heels), however with the 4.0 they were comfortable from the get-go. I'm quite disappointed.

These shoes felt like zero support. It is obvious that they are not worth the asking price for such cheaply made shoes.

I'm an ultrarunner and have worn the Lone Peaks for at least 5 years. Prior to this version, I loved the Lone Peaks and trusted that they'd keep my feet happy during training and races. The fit of the 4.5s are really disappointing. They feel narrower than all my previous Altras and the toe box doesn't feel as roomy. The first time I wore these shoes they cut into my heels. I figured I just needed to break them in a little more. I've now worn these shoes on 4-5 trail runs now, and EVERY time it cuts into my heel. I'm really bummed to have to find another trail shoe, but the pain just isn't worth it.

I have been trail running in Lone Peaks versions for the past 5 yrs and have love them for my mountain runs. The 4.5's have really hurt my achilles. With my first run in the 4.5 version, I had hot spots just above my heel overlying the achilles tendon. I thought if I changes sock styles or waited for it to callous, I would be fine. Big mistake. Rather than a callous, I developed achilles tendon inflammation and pain with running and even walking. One could suggest that this had nothing to do with the shoes. However since changing to a different trail running shoe, all my pain and swelling has resolved. Not sure if it will be worth it to try the 5.0 or continue with an alternant brand.

I have been wearing Lone Peaks since 3.0 version, and these Lone Peak are NOTHING like the previous versions. They feel flat, not as much cushioning, and not a joy to wear like the other versions (which I am wearing right now). I bought two, and I think I've passed the window for return. Why do companies change a shoe and then call it by a tried and tested name.

In February I purchased the 4.5's excited to hit the ground running, training for my next ultra. Just after two runs, 12mi in Point Reyes/15mi in Marin Headlands, I had to retire the 4.5's. I actually converted to Hoka until I could find probably the last size 7.5 4.0s online. Echoing the feedback from previous reviews 1) the redesign to the heel causes instant rubbing that the 4.0's never had, 2) the mid foot seems narrower, and 3) lastly changes to the tongue (thinner, added loop) and lacing system cause the tongue to slide to the side and the loop causes interference. It is now August and I dig out the box of 4.5's (that I had yet to return to REI due to COVID) and decide to give them a second chance. Unfortunately, my Darn Tough socks nor my CEPs are enough to mitigate the rubbing on the heels and tongue interference. Therefore these will be going back. I realllyyy wanted to love the 4.5's due to my great experience with the 4.0s. I was super stoked on the variety of colors even, however that alone wasn't enough. Dear Altra, Please re-evaluate the heel, tongue, lacing and mid foot design when iterating to the 5.0!

I really don't know what's going on with QC but I've been wearing this same style for a few months and love them . I decided to get a pair to stash away as shoe models change so quickly. Unfortunately, this pair doesn't even feel like the same style shoe. Yikes !! WAY too short. Back they go.

I wanted to love these. My hiking friends raved about them. To me.....nope..not for me. NO & I mean NO arch support. No support on the sides, wide squishy toe box. In fact, the entire shoe feels like I’m wearing Crocs, which I dislike because they have NO support. This is a soft shoe. The only positive thing is they have good traction. The toe box is so wide I feel like I’m wearing clown shoes. I put my Merrell insoles in them to provide more arch support & they still make my feet hurt after walking 10 feet. Squishy, soft & no support...too late to return them, I wanted to love them but OUCH! If you are looking for a supportive shoe do not buy this one. I gave it 1 star so the shoe wouldn’t feel bad.. I went back to Merrells.

These shoes began to show significant signs of wear within a few weeks of light/moderate daily use (1-2 hours of hiking or trail running). Sure, they're super comfortable. But at this price point it's absurd how quickly they look shabby and shredded. I have a pair of the 4.5 lone Peak Midrise RSM, the waterproofing doesn't last because the fabric tears. I also have a pair of the regular 4.5 Lone Peak Lowrise - same problem: they're falling apart. The sole is separating from the shoe, the inside fabric is torn. I'd love to see Altra shoes made with better, more durable materials - which may add weight but would give the shoe with some semblance of longevity. Don't buy these shoes.

This is the THIRD and final time I have ordered this shoe in a medium width. The first time it came in a wide width, I dismissed it as human error, sent it back and reordered. Second time it arrived in a wide width I called customer service asking how can this be prevented? Her advice was to try one more time and sure enough it came in a wide the THIRD time. I was very interested in this shoe but extremely disappointed that Zappos can not tell the difference between an M vs W shoe!! I have wasted several weeks trying to get a shoe in the correct size....finally moved on to a different shoe.

I had neuroma's removed 2 years ago and THESE KILL MY FEET! Really triggers similar pain that I experienced prior to surgery. I wish these hard more padding and were more comfort for my foot.
