There is minimal arch support. If this shoe has better support, I'd have kept it. Loved the room in the toe box, which is difficult to find.

The shoe is excellent but unfortunately I had to return them. I wear size 10 in regular shoes so I always order 10.5 in athletic shoes. The overall fit was excellent but the toe box was too large for my slightly narrow foot. The toe box is quite roomy. I've ordered the Bondi 6 which has the best arch support but it hasn't arrived.

OK. I have to start by saying I LOVE Altra Footwear. I have a pair of Lone Peak 4's that totally rock. I thought I was getting the same thing, but alas, they changed ONE TINY DETAIL which made the whole shoe unwearable :( The loop at the back of the shoe is now smaller and made of a sturdier material. The material rubs through the back heel into your ankle, no amount of 'breaking in' will change this. I tried. It just gets worse. It's such a disappointment because otherwise the shoe is PERFECT.

I LOVE altra so I really hate to write anything negative. I don't have overly wide feet. In fact, before Altra, I use to wear 'narrow' shoes if I could find them. The previous versions of the Lone Peaks were heaven..but something around my pinky toe doesn't feel right in this shoe. The length is good, but maybe the toe box is a hair smaller? Not sure, but my foot starts to go numb when I wear these even after 30+ miles of running & when I ride bike. I find myself reaching for my very worn down older pair of these over the newer version.

I have narrow feet. My husband persuaded me to try the Altra for trails. Love the shoe so far. Walked 5 miles out of the box. True to size due to large toe box. I normally get running shoes a half size up. Not too much play in my heel. Very cushy feeling. Not sure if I will run in these shoes but definitely will walk in them and had great grip due for trails.

I was SO SO glad that my husband discovered Altra last year, because I have square feet (long toes) & bunions, that are MORE than accommodated for in the 'Toe Shape' toe box of my Lone Peak 4.5's. I also LOVE how the platform is constructed so that the entire foot is the same distance from the ground, & not 'heel-higher', like most athletic shoes (which puts more pressure on the toes and bunions! Ouch!) The ONLY 'con' about the Lone Peak 4.5 is that the back of the shoe is made WAY to high and it rubs against the Achilles' tendon and causes HOT spots! The first time I wore them for my power walk, they broke the skin & drew blood. (Same thing happened with my 4's last year.) Once it heals, it doesn't happen again, but unfortunately, there is a 'break-in' period in this area. (I know wearing higher socks MAY help a bit for some, but didn't for me). But other than that, I LOVE the shoe! Thanks, Altra!

The Lone Peaks 4.5 were a keeper for me. Post surgery, I need a wide toe box and generous mid foot. These have a stiff bottom, removable inserts to fit my orthotics. I read where some said this shoe didn't wear well, I hope that is not the case for me. We'll see... I got the wine-color and really like it.

The Lone Peak 4.5 are like an upgraded version of the Lone Peak 3.0!!! The 3.0 are the standard for trail running shoes (in my book) but the 4.5 are pretty darn close. The 4.5 are better than the 3.0 in: traction, shoe weight and low profile fit however, the cushion and width are better on the 3.0 (for my foot type). I run year round in Wyoming and have wore these through just about every terrain. The grip is great on the ice, snow, mud, rocky obstacles and just about anything the trail can throw at you. I tried the 4.0 first but they were too wide, felt sluggish on the trail, and weren't responsive enough for me. Luckily the 4.5 fit GREAT, even if I wish they were slightly more narrow.

I wore this shoe hiking the Camino France. The shoe lasted the full 500 miles. They didn't need any breaking in. I did put a better insole in for support. I didn't have one blister and didn't loose any toe nails. My only complaint is the look of the shoe. The colors are hideous. A solid color that matches more clothing would go a long way. If they come up with better colors I would give them 5 stars.

Love these shoes, especially the wonderful Dark Port color. My only complaint is that the fabric on the uppers came apart after a few months of use, making the shoes look shabby even though everything else is in good shape.

I ordered my usual size (10) and the fit is perfect. I've never worn Altra's before but was attracted to them for the wide toe box and good tread. The toe box is absolutely amazing - by far the best of any shoe I've tried. And I love the color and look, and the cushion is just right for my purposes. However, the shoes absolutely tore up the backs of my heels on the first long run, and though I've tried to use them several times since, the friction and pressure against my Achilles' tendons is just unbearable. I'm so disappointed - I've never experienced this with any other shoe. I am not sure whether I can return them since I've worn them a few times, but I don't see how I can continue to run in them.

the wider toe box is nice but overall the shoe was short and my toes hit the end of the shoe on my right foot. Not a comfortable fit. The material the shoe was made of was flexible. Unfortunately, the pair they sent me smelled of foot odor and had been worn by someone, was wrinkled in front of the laces around the instep of the shoe. I have never had this issue before and I certainly don't hold Zappos at fault. Zappos is wonderful! I have a very difficult to fit foot and my size is extremely hard to find so it is wonderful to have a company that I can order so many shoes to try on to find a pair that works for me THANK YOU Zappos!!

These shoes are really great, but for some reason they hurt my big toes (almost like they felt stretched or sore during walking). I think it has to do with the minimal padding under the toes. I think for some people these might be good because they have great traction and look nice too but I walk 3-5 miles a day outside and they aren’t cushioney enough for my road walking so I returned them.

These are my first trail runners. I use for hiking. Absolutely love the wide toe box. Besides frequently having sore cramped, numb (and lost) toes after a hike, I currently have a painful ingrown toe nail. First 15 mile hike - no pain!! I am quite hopeful for these shoes. But after 2nd 15-miler, over rocky terrain - there is significant wear on toe seam with the sole - doesn't look promising to last more than 100 miles. A lot of money to pay for almost immediate degradation. And would like more cushioning. My bottoms of feet were a bit sore. Either more cushioning or maybe a stone guard insole option. And biggest complaint - the heel loop(s). No ones finger will fit thru that. It makes them hard to pull on. Don't know why they sewed two small loops instead of one larger one that could be useful.

I really liked the description and wanted to like these shoes. I wear a 7.5 technically narrow, but I need some toe box room too. My toenails tilt and grow upward, very annoying. So I thought these would be great. I tested the insole and they were narrow but the toes were out huge! They had a nice flex and very grippy. I tried to see if I could make them work by lacing and my foot kept sliding down, all around and hitting the toe. Maybe they would work for flat trails. They just aren't for me. I think they would fit well for someone with a narrow foot/ankle with a lot of toe spread or wide toes.

Well, I have wide-ish feet, so they were tights, esp. across where my bunions are (they are high as well as wide), so I am going to send these back. They are a really pretty color, but I'm not thrilled with the foot shape or sole (it sticks out in the back).

I had the 3.5 Lone Peak and I liked them. Got the 4.0 and loved them! I was excited to get the 4.5 but I am left disappointed. There is less cushioning then the 4.0. I wore the 4.5 on a 10k and then a 30k run. I got blisters on the balls of my feet and base of big toes. This never happened in 4.0. Also a burning sensation about 15k in. I am guessing it is the lack of cushioning. I also don't like the new lacing system. I did not have a problem with the old system. The new system causes the whole tongue of the shoe to move and it rubs and you have to re-position. I also get a bit of a rub in the heel. I loved the 4.0 and really hope I can find some to buy. The only problem I had with the 4.0 was the toe guard separated from the shoe within a several runs. Krazy glue fixed it! Please pump out some 4.0!

These fit pretty similar to the 4.0, which I absolutely loved. Although, these seem to rub my heal, which I did not experience with the 4.0. Plus, why in the world did they change the heal loop? Too small now to loop your finger in to help with pulling on the shoe. One bigger loop is way better than the now two small loops. I don't understand that change.

I need a shoe that ACCOMMODATES my LONG 3rd TOE! I need a slightly SQUARE TOE BOX! No one dies this but ALTRA. I hike on very rocky terrain in Phoenix I hike (5)X per week- I get about two weeks of GOID GRIP on your soles, then they deteriorate! I wish I could afford (12) pairs a year.... because they are comfortable for my toes, but I cannot. I wish Altra would make a DURABLE SOLE.
