Normally New Balance shoes fit well, however, I had to order several pairs due to the way the newer shoes are fitting. When this pair came in it I was excited because it was a great fit and like I'm used to. However, I'm writing this review after having worn them for a coupla months and am very disappointed with the mesh on the shoes--it is soooo thin. Within 6 weeks my toe had already worn a hole in the top of the shoe and since then it has continued to grow. For the price of these shoes, I expect them to hold up longer than 6 weeks.

Everyone, I seriously have the most jacked up feet ever. I’ve had two bunion surgeries 30 &15 years ago and now I need my right foot done again. I have very flat very flexible feet. My podiatrist years ago said buy New Balance and so I have every since. But these here are off the charts comfortable on my feet. I could walk in them for days. No pain in feet, legs anywhere. I have a 3yr old high energy dog so I walk EVERYDAY now. I am ordering another pair so I have a spare.

I am an old woman and walk, not run. I also have a lot of foot problems and even without orthotics, my feet feel good in these shoes. And the orthotics work well in them.

I am a New Balance fan! When the 940v4 came out and I needed a new pair of New Balance this was my choice. They are comfortable, fit well and work for my every day use. I am not a jogger but running New Balance was recommended to me by a New Balance rep eons ago. The reason was the fact that they had more vibrim which meant they took more pounding when running. This also became great for working on cement and the fact that my previous broken ankle was comfortable in these shoes. When I find a pair of shoes that feel great on, I order them in all colors. I recommend them to everyone!

The right shoe seemed to have a defect in the toebox area, where the mesh met the side of the shoe. The seam inside the shoe was rough and felt like a little needle or something hitting my foot when I tried it on. I could feel the roughness with my hand. I didn't have any problem with the left shoe and felt no roughness along the seam. Sent the shoes back. I have no idea whether this is a common issue. If it hadn't been for this problem, I would have kept the shoes, as they otherwise felt comfortable. I sometimes need wide shoes, but the normal width was fine for me. My orthotics fit well in them (insoles were removable) and I liked the color - kind of a light black/dark gray. Might try ordering again. Right now I don't know how to rate the shoes. Wish there was a provisional rating option for defective products.

This is easily my 3rd or 4th pair of 940s and I just say, version 4 is by far the best both in fit and style.

New Balance is about the only athletic shoe that comes in narrow. I am finding the newer New Balance shoes are to big in the toe box. They dont seem to be as narrow as they used to be.

These NB’s fit my wide foot perfectly out of the box and required no additional breaking in. I liked them so much that after one month I ordered a second pair in different color. Unfortunately, two months in the first pair have developed a hole in the lining on the left foot over my big toe. The same issue another reviewer reported. Zappos as always has excellent Customer Service, and after a short chat on-line with a rep, they are allowing me to return for a full refund. Hopefully the second pair does not develop the same issue.

I've had these shoes for a week now and they are comfortable. I have very wide feet and I got a 9W. I wear between a 8 1/2 and a 9W. I wish there were more colors to chose from. Why do wide shoes have no style?? I would buy another pair if they came in some colors. Only gray and black are offered.

Love these shoes. I use them to walk on the treadmill. Very comfortable. I ordered a 7.5 (normal size) Wide and Regular and ended up sending the Regular back. They would have worked, but the wide was just more comfortable in the toe box.

I am working with a personal trainer. She recommended tennis shoes for the workouts. I live in Birkenstocks. I haven't owned a pair of tennis shoes in 10 years. New Balance has wide widths which is what I need. I was one lucky woman ordering these shoes on line based on your description. The fit is true and I was able to fit my orthotics. The style is fashionable. I! LOVE! them! An added plus was I received the shoes the next day. Just in time for my next session with my personal trainer. Thanks New Balance and thanks Zappos.

I absolutely adore these shoes! After suffering tendinitis for over a year my Ortho Doctor suggested New Balance with the silver triangle for arch support. Purchased these and could wear them all day. I may need to add rhinestones for special occasions because I never want to take them off. True to size and width.

I wear a size 11 ww, have a torn tendon in my ankle and overpronate These shoes are a excellent fit and provides great stability. There is plenty of room in the toe box area. I wouldn't say the shoes have excellent support, but the support is good. I wish they came in a different color. Thanks, Zappos and New Balance.

The size, including the width were “normal” and the arch support was better than 90% of the shoes I’ve tried. I have totally flat feet and therefore have a terrible time finding shoes that are comfortable and offer arch support w/o causing pain! For whatever reason, I can’t explain this, nearly every shoe manufacturer who claims to make shoes specific for people with over pronation issues, make the soles of the shoe narrow at the arch. This fails to make sense to me since the arch area of the sole of the shoe is where we need the most support since we’re flat footed and over pronating. Anyway, seems like New Balance understands this concept, at least with this particular shoe which has a wide sole & accommodates and nurtures a flat foot offering the support it needs. Bottom line, great option for anyone struggling with finding a supportive shoe for over pronation. Downside: offered in 2 color options only.

I loved the look of this sneaker. It didn’t feel “substantial.” The shoes looked like they wouldn’t hold up well. I liked the longer tongue of this shoe. I couldn’t adjust the laces enough to accommodate my wonky left foot and ankle. The shoes did not feel right when I wore them around the house. They didn’t seem to flex in the right places while I was walking. Felt flat, little or no arch support. I was hoping for a less expensive option than the New Balance Walking Shoes that work so well for me. I need to replace them now. They were $170 when I bought them before. I’m just going to have to pay more. I looked at the recent reviews of the shoe I need to replace and apparently the quality and fit and materials may have gotten skimpy since I bought them before. Sigh. Anyway, hope you are having better luck than I am. I’m not going to a shoe store to try shoes on. Covid. So, Zappos it is!

This is my second pair. I have one for work, the second for week-end casual use. There is a reinforced toe area that on this pair formed a dip, a crevice, a divot, and rubs on my big toe. ouch.

I have horribly crippled feet. Totally fallen arch. Huge bunion. Terrible time finding a shoe that I could wear and be pain free. This was recommended by my physical therapist when my previous shoes were no longer a available. Very happy with this shoe. Comfortable with adequate arch support. Wide toe box for comfort with the bunion, and not too heavy. Highly recommend.

I have worn New Balance shoes for over 30 years and have never the uppers develop large holes after only about 6 months of wearing them. Very thin material, maybe OK if you were just walking in them but if you want to garden in them, run etc. the material is just too flimsy. I have terrible feet, wide with collapsed arches and PTTD, but this shoe did accommodate that fairly well which was a plus. Wide toe box is great and they look very nice.....wish they held up better. I use to love my 1340's until a few years ago when they changed dramatically with a much narrower toe box. It seems that most shoes now are made for very normal easy to fit feet, not for those of us who have problems.
I'd also recommend:
None. I'll stick with NB for now.

These shoes fit very well. The toe box is awesome. I may have to buy the other two colors. I will wait to see how the shoes hold up after a month or so of long power walks.

This shoe is terrific and great fit for my problem feet, like many others. I wear 8 1/2 Wide and it is true to size. The only negative is the toe material, mesh which does not seem as durable as the rubber “bumper” other versions have had and the mesh is really showing dirt. Hopefully the next version will go back to the older toe material!

I loved them - Except - the left shoe in two different sizes had a plastic piece in between the layers on the toe that sharply cut across the top and side of my little toe. Was impossible to walk comfortably. Had to return them. I was especially looking for shoes to help with over pronation. Perfect for that, but could not walk in them without pain. Disappointed.

Best purchased I've made all year. The shoes are light weight and airy. I am able to walk and run without foot pain, which is what prompted me to buy the shoes.

I LOVE these shoes. Bought them last year, and then bought another in each color. I wear 8 1/2 D, have arthritis and had foot surgery. Since buying these I wear them all day and can walk 4 miles daily with no pain. I have bought 2 more pair as backups in case they get discontinued. Please don't do that ever!

These are the perfect walking shoe for me. The extra wide toe box is needed and appreciated. I also overpronate and this is the one model that accommodates well for that. I wish the interior sole had more cushion but I can purchase that. You would never call this shoe "elegant" -- but serviceable will do.
