These are probably some of the most comfortable shoes that I have ever owned. However, with that being said they are also a bit uncomfortable. They are bit narrow in the toe area, which should stretch eventually. But the main issue is that there seems to be extra material in the toe area that is making a pressure spot on my toes. This was not noticed at first but seems to have become worse with more wear. So overall they are good solid shoe, just wish they would be available in a wide.

The function of the shoe is just fine. Even in some cold NH running (-5 degrees) and in snow, mud, slush, etc. My feet stay dry and warm. The problem for me is the seam on the outside of the shoe - it's right where my toe is prone to press against the upper. This creates a 'painful' irritation very quickly. The shoe fits just fine - it's not a width problem - it is just the location of that seam that makes long distance with these shoes not realistic. I can put up with the 'pain' for a while (think in terms of having a pebble in your shoe - or a small blister)... but for an big-distance ultra, the idea of starting off already irritated/hurting just doesn't make sense. I imagine this is a fairly individual thing, so if the shoe doesn't cause the same problem for you - then it's probably a solid option! I think there is really only one way to find out though.

A tight toe box and a light, loose tongue. Difficult to pull shoe up while pushing foot in. Great colors overall. Fit is snug. Not sure about GTX as I've yet to try them in the rain.

Center lug on forefoot started to injure my foot at mile 6 on a trail run. Pain was too much to consider keeping the shoes. They look cool but not suited for long distance

I got these to return to hiking after surgery on a crushed foot. The comfort and support and springiness are great. Unfortunately, the high price and short lifespan are a big hit. I have only about 50 miles on this pair and some lugs are 3/4 gone.

Overall I loved the speedgoats for all purpose use on a trip to Alaska. Light but supportive. Really all you could ask for in a hybrid running shoe/hiker. Looks certainly are one of the lease important things but c'mon every color way is awful. I will say the gray and orange is slightly better in person but what are we thinking here?

Product defect caused friction bruising on my right inside ankle. Shoes were exchanged. They were wearable and extremely comfortable when wearing heavy wool socks.

I bought the Speedgoat Mids in an attempt to find a shoe that I could use for long single and multi day off-trail fastpacking missions in alpine terrain. I wanted mids for ankle support and to help keep rocks out of my shoes. Super impressed by the overall comfort of the shoe in terms of the plush ride and still maintaining good feel for moving around on uneven terrain. Something was off though on the first day out, they didn't feel quite right and it seemed like my feet were getting really hot. I picked up a pair of lows to test out as well, the Speedgoat 4. Same exact shoe as far as I can tell, but no gore-tex and lower cut. 5 minutes into having the lows on my feet, the difference was significant. I have determined that the excess heat was not simply because the gore-tex version is less breathable, it was primarily because there is a TON of internal slip in the gore-tex shoe. I'm not sure if the gore-tex bootie floats or what, but man was there a night and day difference in foot security in the low version on uneven terrain and especially on steep downhills. The mids were tied TIGHT and were still sliding all over internally creating all sorts of heat. When you don't have the lows to compare to, you might not realize it fully. I was shocked that I could tie the lows half as tight and they felt twice as secure. On top of that, not excess heat build-up meant MUCH happier feet at the end of a big day. If your days don't involve big vert or off trail uneven terrain, you'll get by without a problem in the mids. For me, dropping 5000' in 4 miles, the heat build-up was dramatic.

Comfortable boot for hiking but hideous color. Also, lacing design makes it hard to tie on securely. Should look at other top end boot designs like Vasque and Merrill for easy, secure lacing.

I normally wear size 12 wide for Cliftons which work. I tried both 12's and 12.5's but neither worked. Toe box was too slim, it was too slim through the front yhird of the shoeand the shoe would pinch my small toes with each step.

Very comfortable. No break in period needed. Extremely disappointed that after 3 miles in the rain my feet were feeling damp. The last 5 - 10 miles my feet were squishing soaking wet. Can't recommend these shoes for people who need dry feet.

I gave these pair of shoes a try in the ADK high peaks for summer hiking shoes. The shoe providers decent ankle support, but lacks adequate grip, waterproofing, and dexterity for hiking mountains in rugged terrain. They are suitable for backyard hikes, but not anything more than 5 miles on level ground. Wearing these shoes on the sides of mountains is dangerous; it feels like you're on slippery stilts.

Nice looking trail boot. I had to return it due to it being narrow. Not a good fit if you have a wide foot.

This shoe is very hard to get in and out of and is narrow. Now the narrow part is probably more of how my foot shape is, but the rest of my Hoka's fit fine as regular width shoes. You'll need to loosen the laces pretty much all the way to get in and out of this shoe. I bought it for the Vibram sole. The one overall thing I don't like about the Hoka line is the longevity with soles wearing out quickly. Was hoping this shoe would solve that. I sent them back and bought the Speed Goat Low, in wide... fingers crossed.

I've owned 7 pairs of Hoka shoes including 2 pairs of Speedgoat. The Speedgoat are built differently than other Hoka shoes and are more narrow. I still have a pair of Speedgoat and I love the tread but I can't wear them for more than 1 or 2 hours a day because they are too tight. I definitely can't wear them on a long hike. I bought the Speedgoat Mid 2 GTX hoping they would fit more like normal Hoka's but they didn't.

Any review I write on a shoe needs to be prefaced with the fact that I wear doctor made orthotics. This adds some bulk to my foot size. I'm writing this review for anyone else who has the same messed up feet as me and has to wear stupid orthotics. If you have to wear them you also know how impossible it is to find a boot or hi top shoe that can take orthotics. These were soooooo close for me. The right one fit really well but the left one was awful. More than likely, the heel to toe drop just couldn't handle the orthotic. I really wanted these shoes to fit. If I were rating them on just the right shoe than these would be 5 stars all around. Therefore, I would recommend these to someone in my situation because maybe both of your orthotics will fit. Considering how hard it is to find a boot for us messed up feet people, it's worth a shot. I hope you have 100% luck instead of 50% like I did!
