The size was true to fit however the extremely thin tongue of the shoe was quite uncomfortable with thin socks.

This shoe is actually more cushioned than the Bondi, and quite possibly the most comfy shoe Hoka makes. That said, it does not breath at all. I thought the gore-tex would be good for muddy trails, but I'd rather risk having my feet be wet on the occasional run, than soaked in sweat and hot as toasters on every run. I can see a defined line of sweat where the Gore-tex is on the tongue of the shoe and the toes. While I like the cushioning generally, it's probably more than is necessary for trail runs on softer ground, and makes the shoe a little less nimble for more technical runs. Thought it might make for a decent hybrid shoe (and I use it as such), but the sole is definitely more built up for trail runs. I tried the Challenger as well, which is a hybrid shoe, and while the color wave was more stylish and the sole was more low-profile than the usual platformed Frankenstein-goes-running Hokas, they were, unfortunately, the most uncomfortable Hokas I've tried (and at this point, I've tried many). I wish I'd purchased the Evo Mafete, which was super comfortable, undoubtedly more breathable, and also more low profile for technical trail runs. It was also one of the top recommended trail running shoes in 2021 by Runner's World. If only I were good at taking advice.

This pair is the same size as my last pair and they fit different. Too big and not as fitting as last pair.

Great shoe, and super comfortable: EXCEPT the tongue. I put this shoe on in the non goretex version (which has the same tongue). When I first saw the tongue in the store my reaction was "hmm... cheap thin tongue, weird" but I tried it at home and now I get the reviews about it cutting into the skin. By design it is being forced toward the skin and the tip does not bend it sticks right into skin or sock, so of course over time it will chafe~ no doubt. As compared to the padded tongue on the Challenger ATR 6, which automatically by design rolls up and away from the skin. As a designer, my gut was right on~ tongue is bad news. Why try and be different and reinvent the wheel? padded tongues have been working fine forever! Put your energy into less obnoxious colors please. I'm going for a run, then out grocery shopping~ not going to a circus! Anyway this would be a great shoe but I'm not going to end up with brown chafing marks on my ankle area as others have posted. Re-do the tongue and you have a winner! Love the tread.

I ordered the pair 2 weeks ago and used it to break-in at Mt Baden Powell. Great traction, I love the color too but too bad it hurt my feet all the way, got blisters too. It's too narrow and it made me feel uncomfortable. I wish they have the Speedgoat Gore-Tex in wide. I am returning this and getting a pair of regular Speedgoats in wide instead.

The tongue on the shoe is a heavy weight Gore-Tex or rubber and sticks up too far so that it is constantly rubbing and irritating the front of your ankle. You would not be able to wear these with no show or low cut socks without getting a sore with where it rubs.

I love Hoka shoes but I hate this Speedgoat 4 Gore-Tex version. I own an old version of the speedgoats and they have been really awesome, so I decided to buy this version of shoes, but they are uncomfortable, it is impossible to run with. Now I need to buy a new pair of shoes. :(

Not like the other Hokas I've had in the past. The material the shoe is made out of, looks like plastic. Very unattractive, if that matters.

I've worn these twice now, both times on short, fairly mellow hikes. First the good. These are very comfortable right out of the box. I had heard that this brand was good in terms of comfort and I can confirm that. Now the bad. These are not in the least bit waterproof. On my second hike it had showered earlier in the day. The ground was not soaked by any means and it's been weeks since we had any real rain. I got soaked through to my socks just walking through some wet grass. Considering that I got these because they're allegedly waterproof that is tremendously disappointing. I also found that they skidded on rocks, leading me to slip a few times. Lastly, I think that these are not in the least bit attractive. I'm not really going for that, but I wear other brands that I prefer that are far more attractive. These just look extremely big and clunky on my feet and I do not have large feet. Considering what I paid for these and the lack of performance for what I need, I'm seriously thinking that I will send these back.

This is a big looking shoe! It has a wonderful cushy feel. However, the toe box on the left foot felt very tight, my toes were squished together. And as other reviewers have said, the tongue of the shoe is terrible, way too high.

Tried them on as soon as they arrived. Very narrow toe box and something in the heel of the shoe was rubbing against my heel from the first step. Immediately packed them up and returned them.

Loved the speedgoat 3's, but the 4's are a let down. No arch support, less cushion, the tongue is stiff.

it felt bulky and stiff. but attactive shoe. wish I could find a zero drop or low drop waterproof hiker. the altra lone peak waterproof is too wide. Wish Altra made a more narrow lone peak. which columbia and merrill made a zero drop of low drow hiking shoe. thanks zappos for making returns so easy!

These for just like the regular Speedgoat (my go-to). As an ultra runner, these are great for winter runs. Feet dry even after running through 3" deep frigid puddles. Also keeps your feet warmer on cold days. The bad-the rigid TONGUE that doesn't happen with time. Received cuts on my ankles from a simple 5 mile run with tall socks. Now I wear bandaids on my ankles for ALL runs in these shoes. Please redesign the tongue!

While the shoe itself does what I hoped (keep my feet dry in the wet grass while walking the dog), and it has a nice look and a good tread, it has a MAJOR design flaw. The tongue is hard and sharp, and it digs right into the ankle. While the shoe base is comfortable, the shoe itself is practically unwearable and ruined as every step results in pain.

I think the shoe would work for some people. I have a higher arch and this shoe has ZERO arch support, after a couple of hours my feet ached, I had to go buy cheap insoles to get through the next 8 days. I don't think there anything wrong with the shoes just not what I needed. Made for very flat feet

I wear a size 8 to allow about an inch of space in my shoes. I tried these hiking and they were very tight in the toe box when I wore cushioned Darn Tough hiking socks. Waaay too tight for my toes. My feet are quite petite and narrow so I thought these shoes would work but I had to return.

Very nice looking shoe, very lightweight. Much narrower feel and tighter on my arches. I expected for to be consistent within the brand. Also, not much support for a trail runner. I would have returned them but my husband threw away the boxes while I was at work so I couldn't repackage them. Trying to break them in so it's not a total waste of money.

I loved the shoe itself very comfortable and loved that it was water resistant, for hiking and trail running. However the tongue on the shoe had no cushion and was made of plastic and actually cut my ankle. If the tongue of the shoe was made like my other pair of Hokas I would have kept them.

I wanted to love these but I'm not sure if it was the build of the shoe but they rub in places on my foot and make longer walks difficult. This is the first pair of Hokas that have done this. Same thing happened to a friend.

The tongue was a deal killer. It is sharp and cuts into my leg - this shoe is painful immediately. I do not recommend.

Tongue came up really high on the foot and was not padded as other Hoka One One shoes I've bought, making it extremely uncomfortable, as it dug into my top of my foot.
