This jacket is super warm and comfortable, no problem so far for 10F in NYC with a regular Tee and dress shirt underneath. Size runs bigger! S arm length was too long, so I got a XS instead for a slim fit. Issues I have is the zipper, and not able to zip all the way to cover mouth - no big deal if you have a good scarf; the materials is a big rough so when I walk it makes the crunchy sound, and the side pockets can poke you with personal belongings in it - I think that is because both the slim fit and the rough fabrics. I am 5'8'' and 160 lbs

The very small main zipper is very difficult to operate in the field. Makes an otherwise great parka a poor choice.

I don't normally buy Northface brand because I tend to find it more expensive as compared to another brand who make almost the exact same products. However, I bought my wife a parka as a gift and she loved it which made me do something research about a men's parka. We live in Chicago and have an active dog who needs to walk even when it's -27 with wind chill. I wore this parka with a fleece and thermals and it was almost too hot, which is way better than being not hot at all. The zipper is a bit annoying and the top pockets should be a bit slanted for easier access, but this jacket is worth it.

This is for my elderly father. He needed a warmer coat than what he has now. He loves it but the zipper is very frustrating. It is difficult for him to zip once both sides are in place. It seems to need a better contacting piece.

great for cold weather. zipper could be a little easier to manipulate and it would be good to be able to more easily tighten the hood

The jacket is as described. It's warm and comfortable. Looks great too. Only issue is that zipper is not substantial, could be better. 4 stars only because of the zipper.

I got this for a recent trip to the Berkshires and NYC. We encountered average temps of 25 highs to -2 lows, with snow and wind occasionally. The coat was a life-saver (I'm a native Southern Californian, 67 yrs old). The pluses - easy to put on, Double Zipper could be a bit larger but functional, overall fit was great, very warm. The minuses - too heavy. My wife has a Goose and while its a lot more expensive - it was 1/3 the weight and half the bulk. Its a choice I would consider. The Coat never failed me, even in stout winds and blowing snow.

Very warm and comfy parka : I could go outside by -17C (windchill -24) with only a T-shirt under it. The pockets are quite big and practical. But the zipper is quite annoying : putting both sides together is quite a hassle. Internal knit cuffs would also be a nice feature to have.

30 years ago I was working at a national laboratory. I was riding a motorcycle that day and it had begun to snow. I was unprepared and one of the fellows suggested I go look in a storage container sitting out in the back, there might be some jackets in there. There was, a stack of 'em, North Face McMurdo parkas just sitting there. Gotta love the government. I grabbed one and was like riding around in a sleeping bag, in the snow. I wore that thing every year for 30 years, the zipper broke and there's a few holes and it has lightened up in color and its a bit tired. Replaced it with a new model of the same kind, and was not disappointed. HOWEVER, I defy anyone to operate the small plastic zipper with gloves on. It seems to be made for a heavy windbreaker than a decent parka. The snaps aren't much better. But aside from those two things, for the price it is the best parka I have ever owned. I won't see another 30 years, but if I did I'd be shopping for one of these again. Even though the zippers would have gotten so cheap by then I'd have to take it right to a tailor for a proper one haahahahah!!!

I love that this product comes in XS online. I am 5'9 and weight about 130 lbs, so it is hard to find a jacket that is form fitting. Initially thought to get Canadian Goose as they also carry XS and XXS; however, could not justify spending over 1K on a winter jacket that I will only wear maybe 2-3 months out of the year. Living in NYC means that it can get cold at times, this jacket keeps me very warm and I would even sweat in it sometime when I layer. I love the face mask pouch as I usually use it to store my scarf. Only cons are that the fur ruff is faux, so when it gets wet or rained on, it looks like a mess. Also, another con is that this jacket is a snow magnet. Probably the material that it is made, it would attract so much snow that I would have to brush off constantly, which is a bit annoying.

Great looking coat, warm for most all winter conditions. The fur can be removed. Great price compared to other similar brands.

Compare to other similar jackets in different brand this jacket is good value for money. The insulation is great, keeps me warm in below zero temperatures. Stylish and fits perfectly. Normally I wear medium but this jacket I chose small. Both inside and out this jacket is made with good materials. Two cons: Its little difficult to align the zipper while zipping up. And there is a gap between the fur and the hood attachment which makes the cold wind to sneak in.

This is the second Mcmurdo I've owned. It's still a good parka but has issues. This 3xxx coat is smaller when measured next to my older 3xxx. Will be harder to add layering. The zipper and snap buttons are too small. Especially when you have gloves on. The snap on hood leaks cold air. It needs internal knit cuffs and a waist snow skirt. I'd pay more if you improve it. I work outdoors. BTW your good down standards is why I kept this coat.

It's a nice parka. It's warm, it's breathable, and it's not that heavy. The previous versions featured drawcords at the waistline and the bottom to prevent cold air from flowing up. In the McMurdo III, there is no drawcord anywhere.

Had to order one size down because the XL was enormous for me (6 ft. / 220 lbs.). The L (Large) is fine but a bit boxy, no shape or tailoring, so it fits well around the chest and shoulders, but, if you are muscular or athletic or even if you have broad shoulders or are otherwise fit or thin, you will likely have some extra coat around your mid-section. Not so much as to make the coat a bad buy, though.

This was an excellent by for me, the asphalt grey color goes with anything. Two issues / suggestions: 1. Sleeve length was short as in my case i always require tall sizes being 6' 4" and my sleeve length being 37-38", luckily i was able to get longer gloves to make up the difference. 2. Fleece lined pockets in the chest for better hand warming during frigid weather.

I have just received this parka from North Face, so I have not used it yet for the cold weather I got it for. My first impression is that it has Horrible zippers. The main zipper is very difficult to zip. The zipper is too small and petite for this coat. The zippers on the chest pockets are on the outside (rather than the middle) of the coat. You need to be a contortionist to work the zipper and to get anything into or out of the pockets. I'm not sure why it was designed like this, but it is a really poor feature.

Good value, but I see that TNF has removed the hem adjustment. This leaves quite a big gap at the bottom for slimmer users. There seems to have been a re-fit for 2018 as I used to fit a medium, now that's a bit large and the small is too big. Warm enough for the coldest days you'd typically experience in Toronto, Canada.

I bought this jacket and ending up returning it to go with the Outer Boroughs Parka instead. I had two issues with the McMurdo 1) It's quite bulky (better suited for extended winter exposure vs. commute to work) and 2) its absurdly difficult to use the zipper they put on the jacket. I'm sure the McMurdo is quite warm but the Outer Boroughs has a more slim fit while still providing enough insulation. The McMurdo also runs a size large - I'm 5'10/185 and the Medium was too big for me.

This is the first parka that I bought and I love how it's extra long so it covers your lower body. The warmth is perfect for the Boston weather where I will spend most of my time in. The hood fits my head nicely but the gaiter is too tight for most people. The only annoying con is the zipper. Because this is a long parka, you will have to look down to zip up and sometimes it's very difficult to get the zipper to allign.

First North Face jacket and I love it. Normally I'm a Medium but had to return the Medium and buy a Small. They tend to run large for men. Overal l like. Would give it a 4.5 if it had that rating but had to dock for pocket locations. as they're a little too high and also not very comfy to leave your hands in when outside on a cold day.

This jacket is extremely warm. I can not reiterate that enough. Totally the best decision I've made this winter season in the Northeast. The one draw back is that I've noticed that across the top of my upper back, in an approximately 2 inch band, I feel markedly cooler in that area compared to the rest of my back. I don't know if this is a design flaw or if the down settled thereby exposing that particular area but it is the lone critique I have.
