This coat is exactly what i needed. The inner and outer coats can be worn on their own. The inner jacket is good for a chilly day with mild wind and the outer is good for watery/snowy conditions (it also provides some warmth as well). Put together and its really warm. Had no issue when a snow storm came through a few days ago. My wife and I were outside playing in it the whole time. One note, i wish the inner jacket were a tad bit longer like the outer layer.

I've always been a big guy. 6 ft 3 in and presently about 230. I've had a Columbia interchange jacket previously and I went with this as a newer model so to speak. I stayed with the same size, 2xt. It fits very well. While the sleeves are long, they are perfect for the cold weather or the snow if I'm clearing the driveway. There's plenty of pocket space and the armpit vents are a nice addition. While I don't see myself removing the inner coat, the availability to do so is very nice.
My only real critique is that there is no real storage for the hood other than entirely removing it. I would like to see a system similar to my older interchange coat where the hood rolls up under the outside back collar and velcros closed.

now living near boston, so its an easy winter and dont need crazy negative temps jacket. this is just about right. go for a walk in 20 degree weather and snowing - its just right. have been out in 10 degree weather and still works well. repels rain and snow well. its light without too much bulk.

The jacket was a replacement for another that had the zipper ripped loose in mid chest. It arrived on faster than I expected for their standard shipping. I was shocked at the color. In the picture it looks pretty dark and understated but the blues and greens stand out. I almost sent it back but I've gotten used to it and didn't really care for any of the other colors available. The jacket is warm in 30 degree weather with wind that I have here. I do not like at all the shiny interior. It's like they took one of those thermal blankets and used that for a liner. Overall, I'm ok with it but if I could go back to the beginning where I had money in hand and not credit to their online store I'd have bought from somewhere else. I've been wearing columbia coats since I was in gradeschool and they have always been great but lately they seem to be low quality and not very fashionable. Especially considering what you pay for one.

It was very warm and it has been down to 38 below here in South Dakota. The problem was that the liner made my arms sweat something terrible. If it had a fleece liner I would have been much happier. I couldn't stand the liner sticking to my arms. I guess I'll have to wear a long sleeved shirt with it because it is awesome besides that one issue.

I've been looking for a funtional jacket for ski and snow that would keep me warm and dry, im a larger size. Being most stores only carry up to a 2x jackets I was hesitent to buy online.
Well my Whirlibird just came in today and I am impressed! I'm a big guy, 6'4" @ 350 with a longer torso and short leg for my size. I went with the tall as most jackets tend to ride up and this inner layer snugs the midsection while the outter layer comes down to the butt giving total snow protection without riding, my first time wearing it and I had to open the vents under the arm as I wasn't used to the nice omni heat. The hood is a nice feature that you can tighten and get full all around protextion, or fit your helmet in. Only thing that could be better on this jacket is the main zipper. It snagged and came undone at the bottem so you have to make sure it is in the socket all the way.

I ordered and xtra large tall because at 6'5" nothing seems to be long enough. This jacket shocked me as it was a bit to long for my liking (went 4-5" below my back pants pockets). This jacket also fits pretty snug in the shoulders and sleeves. Overall a good product but order a size bigger than what you normally wear. Also, as stated before, this jacket is very long.

The red color is great, and the gray trim adds a little style. Wish it had a 2 way zipper, opening from both the top and bottom. Glad it comes in a Tall size.

If we would have known how big the coat ran would have gotten a regular xl not the tall

I read all the reviews before ordering this jacket for my husband. Our story is exactly like so many others that have reviewed this product. He has worn his last Columbia jacket for at least 15 years. It has never worn out. This one seemed very light and he was afraid it wouldn't be warm enough. It was just fine in our cold Michigan weather. He is a big guy, almost 6'5" and 350 pounds. The only problem was exactly what some others have mentioned. If he wears a sweater or sweatshirt under it, the sleeves are tight. It is difficult to bend his arm. More room in the arms would be appreciated. This is the only reason I rated the jacket a four star and not a 5 star. It is difficult to find clothing that fits my husband and I was pleased to receive a jacket that fit him as well as this jacket. He looks great in it!

I knew that this jacket would run a bit small, so I ordered one size up and it was great. Looks good, kept me warm on the slopes.

The sleeves on the XLT liner are a bit narrow. When my arm is straight out it seems fine but as soon as I bend my elbow the liner sleeve feel tight around my forearm. When my arm is straight out my fore arm is about 13 inches around, and at a 90 degree angle its 14 inches around, which is where the liner feels too small. Other than that I like the jacket a lot.

The length of the large tall is perfect. I wish it had a zippered inside pocket in the outer shell like it does on the inner jacket. It will likely be worn often with just the outer shell and a secure inner pocket for a cell phone would be really helpful.

I was hoping that the hood on this coat was attached by either snaps or a zipper. It's stationary. I would send it back for either a refund or exchange, but I'm tired of going to the PO to send a return

I am 6'2 270lbs and athletic. This coat fit amazing except it was too big in the middle by an extra 8-12 inches. I hade to send it back and get the xlt instead of the 2xlt.

I'm wondering what happened to Columbia's sizing. Every coat I've bought (including this one) in the past two years has been far too big. I have an older Whirlybird II jacket that fits perfectly, but five other jackets in the same size have all been far too big on me.
I can't really comment on function since I have been unable to wear the jacket in normal conditions due to the size.

barely long enough, no room to lift arms up. plenty near shoulders but it's like the under arm area was attached too low. It's also 50 usd less, not even 3 weeks later. I needed it asap so I don't have time to exchange it.
On the positive side, it is warm, plenty big, and shipped fairly fast.

Ordered a 2XLT (Tall 2XL) and a XLT (Tall XL) but never got to wear the coat. I'm 51 yrs old, 6'5" 220 lbs - wide shoulders narrow hips (wear 54L suit coat with 36" pants). Need ATHLETIC sizes not just TALL with big gut! XLT sleeves too short and way too narrow in shoulders and chest, too wide in hips. 2XLT fit in sleeves, chest and shoulders but could take "mini-me" skiing under the coat. At waist it's like a parachute ... will fit someone weighing 275 lbs. not average size TALL guy! No offense to my BIG friends but I just need TALL, not BIG (gut) and TALL!! Very disappointed - no outdoor company offers just TALL sizes - searched for 3+ years for new coat to replace my 20 yr old XL North Face ski coat which still fits great!!! Even North Face sizes are wacky now.
I have a 2XL Columbia raincoat which fits great. All other XL or 2XL ski coats i've tried are a joke, short sleeves, narrow shoulders with big waist.

I was looking for all around functionality with warmth and waterproof.
Warmth and water proof 10 / 10
FUNCTIONS on the other hand... a huge miss.. from tiny zippers, and vents that should open the opposite way under the arms, bottom to top unzipping is difficult and slow.... no at small zippers and gloves on the hands... it's impossible... the tiny velcro squares on front ... needs to be twice the size. Overall not a fan.

I have the same exact coat but 3 years older and wow the difference the material of the outer shell feels cheap the zippers are not rubberized for waterproofing the sleeves no longer have elastic just the Velcro the zippers just have rope no rubber pull tabs on the rope. The inner shell is nice and shiny but the sleeves are garbage and are a total downgrade and won't stop sliding past my wrist and the cold comes right up the sleeves so what's the point. There is no pull strings to tighten the bottom of the inside coat and air just comes up there to paid less for my old one and bought one worth 1/3rd the amount I paid I just wanted the same coat and fit but it's a cheap made version that cost more money
