This shoe is very supportive and very comfortable. Nicely structured with good arch support. The ankle strap is soft and prevents small stones from popping in around the ankle. Since the lace ties lower, it doesn't dig in to my ankle. It has many hardcore hiking boot characteristics with a lighter, airy, trail-runner feel.

I've had Merrill Moabs for years and they're very comfortable and seemed to work well enough. This summer we hiked at Crater Lake and on the way down in dirt/loose gravel I was slipping quite a bit. I had a hiking trip coming please with my son and I decided to try something with more of a lug style bottom. I ordered several brands and the Hoka Arkali seemed the most comfortable. I also ordered a pair for my son as he didn't have any hiking shoes. We just got back from hiking at Zion, Bryce Canyon & Moab. These shoes were so comfortable and totally kept us both from slipping. On slick rock and downwards angles they kept us from slipping at all. I seriously didn't slip once on this entire action packed trip. Can't recommend them highly enough !! I should also note that I came across Hoka's initially when I had gotten plantar fasciitis and was trying to recover and got the Hoka Bondi's to walk in. And. My son has size 13 FLAT feet and his feet always hurt. I got him the Akasa for an every day shoe & the Arkali's for hiking. His feet never hurt and he couldn't compliment the shoes enough.

I ordered these boots about 10 days before a long hike in the Grand Canyon. I was desperate to find something to relieve pressure on my knee because I'd waited fir this hike for 3 years! I rested the entire 10 days and wore the boots continuously. They were super comfortable right out of the box, felt a bit large, but that didn't bother me, as I was planning on some foot swelling and possibly wearing 2 pair of socks anyway. These boots were awesome on the hike, no pain in my toes at all! Probably the poles helped most with my knees, but the knees were none the worse for the hike either! I did get one blister on the side of a big toe joint from the sliding around (maybe I could have used 1/2 size smaller), but even that was minor. I've had way more blisters on that hike before! My feet also did not feel as tired as I expected. I will definitely use these boots on this hike again!

I am on my feet 10 plus hours a day in varying terrain as a Law Enf. Ofc. I was having back problems and knee and joint aches. Wearing Under Armour for years, i was very hesitant to switch but omg, thank goodness i did. My knees and joints ache less and my feet are so relieved. Lifetime customer. These boots are likecwearing your favorite broke in shoes without the " breakdown" from wear. Great job and especially love the 3 areas of adjustment's. Perfect fit, i would order up a half size from normal.

I hiked for 8 hours in my Arkalis, and my feet were still pretty comfortable. I can't say as much for the rest of my body after my hike, but these shoes performed brilliantly.

I absolutely LOVE this shoe and hope that Hoka never stops making them. I bought them for hiking but have used them a lot for biking. That is what makes them so great: they are versatile. They have the grip for vigorous hikes or bikes and the breathability and flexibility for workouts. In fact, when I bike to the gym, I just keep them on, do my workout and bike home. Not only are they functional, but every single time I wear them, someone asks me about them because they think they are cool or cute or great looking. This is not hyperbole. Every. Single. Time. I am thinking about buying another pair to have on hand for when these wear out. Which they will, because I wear them almost every day.

I've been a longtime Hoka wearer. When they sold the company awhile back I felt the quality really went downhill. I had my eye on these for awhile. I ended up purchasing them, banking on their awesome return policy. They are by far the best hiking boot I've worn! I waited a season before submitting my review, so I could be sure. I like everything about them. I almost want to buy a second pair, in case they decide to change their design!

These boots are saving my toes! The way these lace and the malleable material I get a fit that holds my heel in place even when traversing a steep grade. That is a first for me. Timberlands nor Merrels had the fit I need to save my toes.

so I've been looking at these since 2018. in 2019 I bought the Tor (low shoe) and Kaha (boot) for some hiking trips. I chose these because of the "plush" footbed. The Arkali was firmer and I thought plush would be better for a backpacking trip. but then this year I broke my leg/ankle and foot. I bought the Arkali for the firm footbed as I wanted the support but also realized that with the velcro ankle strap, I could get as much ankle support that I needed for my injury. if I don't want much, I just keep the strap looser....I love these - also the sizes are so consistent that I can wear them all day out of the box! My 6th pair of Hokas... I'm a big fan.

Exactly what I was looking for- a lighter weight approach hiking shoe with a roomy toebox. Tested in canyons, mud, and rock.

Went for a hike on the Appalachian Trail with these. The vibram on the rock slides were amazing!! The only problem I have is the neoprene around the ankle gave me blisters. Just need better socks and to break them in more.

Hiked 5 miles in them right out of the box and did fine! They are better looking in person than in the photo. Only issue is around the ankle, or back of the heals. They rubbed a little bit, but I expected that. I'm not used to having shoes that go up high around the ankle. But they did great in mud and on gravel. Kept me dry when I wiped out in muddy muck. They also were easy to clean up with a hose and sunshine to dry them out. Gonna keep them, and break them in! Happy Trails :)

Narrow footed women, rejoice! The perfect hiking shoe has arrived. Comfortable, steady, and attractive, I get compliments in these shoes everywhere I go! I've worn them on steep, flat, rocky, and wet trails and I have no complaints. Make more shoes like this please! I have incredibly narrow feet so they fit me perfectly. I'd size up a half size just to be safe.

This shoe/boot is everything I need for hiking. It performed on all surfaces...slickrock, scree, sand, grave, and boulder climbing. The soles are solid enough that they cushion when hiking rocks. There is so much ankle support without the high boot top. Nothing gets in when in the brush. I love that there are so many ways to tighten or loosen them.

I love these HOKAs for walking the city during cold temps AND for trekking on moderately muddy hikes. They run a bit big, but nothing that 2 pair of socks can't handle :-)

It is such a process when I have to buy shoes. My feet are wide and I constantly struggle with truly comfortable shoes that don't cause pain after awhile. I went on a long hike in some shoes that are good for workouts but not for rough terrain. My feet hurt for 2 weeks. Thus started my journey to find the perfect hiking boot. I tried so many different brands and shoes. Every single one was narrow, even if it had a "W" size. Until I got these. The moment I slipped them on, I knew they were perfect. Finally a shoe that is PERFECT for wide feet. It feels they were designed for my feet. And they look good too. I've put about 20 miles into them so far and no pain at all. If you have wide feet, these are the shoes for you.

I'm training for a distance hike and these are great hiking shoes. I need the large toe box but I can easily pull the laces tight in other areas as needed. They adjust around the back of the heel and have a stretchy Velcro ankle band so I can make it just right. I love them!

I am not an athlete I am not a runner I am a woman who works 12 hours a day on her feet at a daycare center. I also have type two diabetes and neuropathy and I'm likely considerably overweight. This is my second pair of Hoka shoes this is my first Arkali end it won't be my last. Any color this shoe comes out in I'm getting it even if it's the same color I'll be willing to buy it twice. This shoe helps me keep my balance it keeps my swelling down it stabilizes my rolling ankles it affords me the ability not only to do my job but to think that I might actually start walking for exercise and who knows one day I might just become a runner I might just call myself an athlete then.

The shoes are very comfortable and durable. I have gone on many hiking trails in Southern California and these shoes grip very well. I have also gone running with these shoes as well. I highly recommend these shoes. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.
