Amazing grip on muddy terrain.
This is my first time running with gore-tex shoes and unfortunately its not for me. On very wet days my feet have been all but dry.

This is a beautiful shoe - love the look and color. Size and fit were fine. The sole is hard - I have been wearing Hoka and my foot wasn’t happy with the stiffer sole. Also my feet are 70 years old, so that might be part of the issue. I would have purchased this shoe if my feet were younger.

I purchased these after trying several other brands of hiking shoes and not finding the right combination of features. These have waterproof Goretex and GREAT treads with a sneaker feel to them that isn't bulky. However, despite sizing myself appropriately to measurements, they are slightly too big but just enough to be uncomfortable. After 3 miles my feet are killing me because they aren't properly supported in the toe box due to the extra room. My foot is 7 1/4, so of course, I fall between sizes and you never want to down sizeespecially expecting to wear wool socks. They are great for short hikes, but I purchased them specifically with the intent of completing longer hikes. Therefore, I am stuck with them now for non-hiking activities, which seems like a waste given the thought put into their design.

Fits large. I’ve worn salomons for years and always buy an 8.5. These 8.5’s swam on me. Trying a smaller size.

This was my second pair of the Speedcross 5 GTX as I had put my first pair through every challenge I could find and they stood up to the test.
So of course I purchased a second pair and was equally impressed that the second shoe responded as well as the first.
However, after my last few trail runs I began to notice my shoes feeling damp and smelling like mold, or musty...not certain how to describe the rank smell but the stench was so bad that I had to place my shoes in a bag so not to stink up my car. I have washed them, placed baking soda in them and have even placed them in a freezer as I was told this might help.
I am not sure what has changed from this shoe to the last one but I am astonished that I can no longer wear them just because they smell so badly.
ps...I run in socks

The toe of the shoe is roomy, so if you have other Salomon's, this style may fit looser on you. I did not order based on their measuring, I ordered based on the size of my other shoes. Don't do that. Follow their guide on how to order the right size.

I'm long time fan of sppedcross. However, this model they changed some things. The shoe lost it's waterproofness within 6 months. It came apart at stitching seem where foot bends. And, like the other reviewers, I too experienced an offensive smell. Super intense. It will overtake the vehicle they are in, or a whole room of a house. I've never had stinky feet. EVER. It's almost like water got trapped inside shoe and turns musty smelling. Terrible. Can't be worn man. I did reach out to company, and they WERE Fabulous to work with! The really do warranty their products. Now I get to find a new pair of salomons! Thanks for being a great company. Speedcross4 design lasted longer, more rugged, never smelled. Didn't loose the waterproofing.

I would not recommend this shoe as a waterproof option. I bought these about a month ago and wore them 4 times in dry weather. I went out yesterday in the rain for the first time and there were puddles in my shoes. Toes sloshing in socks sort of puddles. I didn't submerge the shoes and they became soaked the same way non-gore-tex shoes get wet from running in the rain. They are comfortable and I have confidence in the the stickiness of the soles, hence the two stars.

Another dud by Salmon's. The shoe comes out smelling of plastic and looks like it. Looks like great tread if you run trails. As a women's US 7.5, sizing to Salomon's 6.5, this shoes was still too big, at least a 1/2 inch, and too narrow, so can't go down. It felt still and like wearing a rubber ball.

This shoe fit perfect and is nicely cushioned, though I will return them because they cause my feet to be at the slightest angle to where I will be going bowlegged. This angle is enough to where this would cause great discomfort after a while, easpecially in my hips! Otherwise they are wonderful.
I'd also recommend:
Asolos, though their toe box is too narrow. I wish Zappos offered the wide feet shoes.

Salomon has a great warranty program. I know because they already replaced my pair after a month and the bottom started coming off. The replacement is doing the exact same thing and I don't even wear them all the time. Huge let down and now have to find a new pair of favorites.

I am a keen trail runner and have had 4 pairs of salomons in the past all have been great. My current pair the plastic structure in the back of the shoe is digging into one of my heels causing it to swell and bleed. There is much less cushioning on the newest model - not very impressed. The tred on the new model is better though.

I'm no stranger to the speedcross and always rely on them for muddy terrain when I require a more aggressive lug - performance wise, I cannot fault them. But in regards to some of the upper material used, I am not a fan! This is the forts version of the speedcross I have found this issue with - let's face it, these trainers are going to get muddy! Very muddy! I take pleasure in looking after my kit, especially when paying a premium price for it. Very disappointed that after my run and hosing down my speedcross, the upper material appears to have locked the mud in and there is no way of cleaning this off! I think it looks terrible and have never had this problem with any other speedcross which have always cleaned up perfectly after a run. Picture taken was after first wear - and that is how I am stuck with them looking now!

Less stable than the 4. Too wide for feet which 4 fitted perfectly. Caused a few ankle injuries already. I'm sad I spent the money on the model up.

I just got these and was so excited to have waterproof runners. I could barely get my food inside as the shoe was so narrow as to be unbelievable. I am a very easy size 6, take a 7 in sneakers and have never had an issue with width. My go to shoe is Nike which I know run narrow, but I have no problem with them. The problem was around the middle (where Nike's are narrow. They were so tight, I packed them up, requested a return and they are on their way back to you. I have to believe the problem was just with these shoes, as I cannot imagine anyone being able to wear them! Sorry I had to give these 1 star. They are nice looking though!

I have been a Salomon fanatic for many years now and have always swore by these shoes and convinced many of my friends and family to purchase a pair over the years. I am a keen trail runner and hiker and have had 2 pairs of salomons in the past and all have been great and i wore them that much i wore the tread off! My last pair being worn 3 times a week for nearly 10 years which were amazing! My husband purchased me a pair of these and i was so excited to use them.
Disappointingly the plastic structure in the back of the shoe is digging into both of my heels causing it to swell, bleed and blister. An issue that i have never had before in any shoe. To the point on a 4 mile trail run last month i nearly chose to go barefoot half way through! There is much less cushioning on this model and i am not very impressed at all. I can't even walk the dog in them. The tread and grip on the new model is much improved but i literally cannot wear them. SALOMON PLEASE HELP!!!!

I bought a pair Feb time and after 3 m wear at the most they started falling apart! I am immensely disappointed with them. They are expensive shoes; I have worn speed cross shoes for many years and swear by them, always say they are like putting my feet in slippers but I have tried another brand as can't be replacing them every few months. Salomon I think you need to reload at the material used here, there is something not right about them.

I have been running trails in the previous models for years. Bought the GTX 5 version for last winter. 4 months into running usual trails bilateral distal MTP plantar pain. NEVER had foot issues before with any shoe that I have run in since my teens (40 years). Total disappointment. I don't know what changed in the shoe, but still trying to get back what I lost wearing this version.

I have only had these for a short time and I'm really disappointed with them. I has speedcross 4 previously which I wore for ages and couldn't fault but the smell from these is awful. They haven't been worn a huge amount. Considering the price tag I'm really disappointed.
Having said that they are extremely comfortable. Pity the smell makes them unwearable

Bought the Speedcross 5 gtx meadowbrook/navy blazer september 2020, but living in Northern Norway I didn't get the chance to use the shoes until this summer. Previously had a pair of Speedcross 3 gtx that I used for several years, and loooved, and therefore wore completely out. The Speedcross 5 gtx however, I have barely used, but they trap dirt inside the mesh material on the top, leaving them looking brown-ish and yellow even though I've washed them with a brush right after use like recommended. Moreover, the plastic material rips super easily, and it seems like the trapped dirt combined with plastic cover makes the shoe stink like crazy. I've never had a pair of shoes looking and smelling as horrible after using them only one summer. Not worth the price.
Lastly, the slightly larger toe box than previous models doesn't support my foot, which makes my toes crunch into the tip of the shoes. Hence, they're unbearable to use for anything but easy and flat hikes. NOT suited for running and especially downhill, unless you want blue toe nails. Therefore, I'm thinking about selling them after only one summer, but with the stench and the look of the shoes, I can't imagine that I can get much money for them

I loved several pair of beach shoes over the years and decided to try some hiking shoes for tail walking. They're too tight in the house and I can't return them because I don't know my order#.
