I bought these to aid with a SAR mission in the Cascades. I needed something tough and durable that I could rely on on off trail terrain that was slippery. These did the trick! Very comfortable throughout the day, but aggressive enough that I could work hard in them. Still not the biggest fan of the Gore-Tex due to the water trap you get when it comes in through the top, but that's a minor complaint.

I have had several Speedcross-models, and these are great in most ways! The shape and fit is super soft and comfy, and the shoes feels like a glove on my feet! :) True to my usual Salomon shoe size. The negatives are that the fabric feels and smells like cheap plastic..., so they come off as warm/damp, and smelly in a bad way! :( I still love them - but I hope Salomon never uses this plastic fabric again.

I normally wear ASICS , but couldn't find any gortex in my size so was advised in store at catterick to try Solomon speedcross 5 gortex , i have been out in all weathers the lad5 8 weeks sins I got them , snow drifts, ice , -10 , mud , rain every weather possible and I must say they have never let any water in at all , they aren't as comfortable as my normal trainers as ASICS have a lot of gel for comfort , so that's why I gave 4 stars

This pair is my first Solomon as i am mainly a hiker not a runner but friends wore this while hiking and they recommended its good grips will make your hike more safe on muddy -wet trail. Because they are light and comfy will make your move faster down hill wish i love most. Only down side for my personal is that i wish they would have higher ankle Which would protect my ankle from twist. I am 5'6" tall ,125 lbs wear size 8.5 it perfect fit.

Bought these a while ago and have used a few times! Absolutely love them for when your hiking at a fast pace, they offer incredible grip and are extremely light. They fit larger so I would not size up and have less cushion then my normal runners but for being on trail I don't notice it as an issue!

I initially ordered these in size 8.5, which is my usual size, but when the shoes arrived they were enormous! Be warned - these fit a bit narrower and longer than usual. I returned those and got size 8s which fit perfectly. As for performance, the treads gripped incredibly well, even on a very dry, steep, dusty trail. The sole of the shoe is very sturdy and supportive, and much bouncier than my previous trail runners. It was like running with little cushions beneath my heels, which was great. These are great shoes and I would recommend them. The only reason I didn't give a full 5-star review is that the lacing is weird and annoying - I'd rather have actual shoelaces but maybe this elastic thing works better for some people. Also - the sizing issue.

Only problem they press on outside ankle bone...a bit hard to break in that area

I tried these and really wanted to like them, but they were just too narrow for my feet. I wear an 8 in a speedcross wide, and I tried sizing these up to 8.5, but they still didn't work for me. They rub up on the outer part of my foot too much, which is REALLY uncomfortable in cold environments. I would prefer these for winter running, but for now I'll stick to my hokas. The speedcross 5s in wide are some of my favorite shoes for gross gnarly trails, they just don't translate well to snow since they start to soak through, even with gaiters. I think these would be good for snow and slushy mud, they just aren't made for people with wider feet.

Having bought other Salomon shoes and needing to size up to a 6.5 (XA Pro shoe and boots) I bought the 6.5 in the speedcross 5's. Which seemed ok at first but are now slipping off my heels. I love Salomon shoes but the sizing is a minefield
