I really wanted this coat to work out. But the sleeves are 4-5" too long. I have several other Columbia jackets that I love and in the same size and they aren't this way. I bought a small and I'm 5,4. They are long enough that it looks funny and it's not comfortable so sadly I have to return the jacket.

TL;DR: the previous version of this jacket was perfect, but they took out features and fit and now it's just like every other run of the mill puffy coat. Definitely warm, not nearly as awesome as it used to be.
I'm moving to Scandinavia and have spent months researching and trying on various winter coats and finally stumbled upon the Lay D Down Mid jacket (first version). I wanted/needed waterproof down, detachable hood, inner pockets, and thumbholes are wonderful inside big coats. The jacket was practically perfect in very way, my only issue was the color (a not so subtle pink... I'm not one for standing out)
I ordered this hoping it would be the same jacket just with a slightly longer front and in the color I wanted. While the pictures look stylish and fitted, they've traded fit and function (and waterproofing?) for a couple stitches in the back and a longer front.
The arms are HUGE, I look like the Michelin man and have to tighten the cuffs a ridiculous amount. It's like they sewed large arms onto a small jacket. I'm normally S in Columbia products. The previous Lay D Down Mids fit and looked great in a small, not too tight, not too loose, but these newer ones are the usual shapeless puffy tent as every other brand. The hood is no longer detachable, which means there's no separate collar to stand up inside the hood (so it's not as warm), and what IS left isn't lined at all, and the shape has completely changed. The outer material has also changed and doesn't feel as waterproof and is much noisier.
I'm scared to order an XS and not have enough room for layers and movement.
The previous version of this jacket had every feature and was absolute perfection, and then they changed it... WHY.

Was very excited to finally receive my new coat, but then did not at all like how it fit me. It was longer than I expected it be & There's no way to cinch it in at the waist to make it fit better. It just hangs off me like a trash bag. Try this on in the a store before you buy it!!

I have never been so disappointed in a brad as I am with Columbia. Bought this jacket for winter in chicago. As soon as temp drop below freezing, this is not warm enough. For this money I can buy a better jacket at any retail. All you pay for is the name. It also runs huge. With my measurements reccomnded size is L, and it is way too big.
