Customer Reviews New Balance Made in US 990v5

As a woman with wide feet and a high arch and high instep, I am wearing men's 990s to get the 6E width. When I purchased the previous 990s in the store two years ago, the store laced them. This time, with a mail order, I had to lace them. I saw that in the photos on your website, the shoes were laced differently from what the store did. I followed the photo on your website and it gave me more width. So some previous discomfort came from the store not lacing it correctly. That said. I still need a wider width at the toe - no tapering - more like a rectangular toe - and wider at the instep. I wish your company made a 990s in women's with the 6E width and also with a more rectangular toe.

I am a long time wearer of the New Balance 990 running shoe. When I was a runner (many years ago) I found the early versions of the 990 to be the absolute best. Great support and superior cushioning. This held true right through the Version 4. I found the V4 to be the best walking shoe as I no longer run but walk 15,000-20,000 steps a day. After wearing out my V4, I purchased the V5. Something definitely changed. I purchased my usual size 9 standard width and continued with my typical daily walking regimen. This 990v5 is not giving me the support and cushioning that I am accustomed with the 990. I am having knee, ankle and knee pain. Fortunately, I did not discard my old 990v4. I put these back on my feet and no knee pain, no ankle pain and no hip pain. Please, please, please New Balance bring back the Version 4.

Super comfortable and well made. When ever I leave the house these shoes are on.

I bought the 990v5 shoe for walking daily. Previously I have used the 928 shoe for many years. The 990 shoe feels like you are walking on ICE when you hit wet concrete. Hoping it will get better with wear but I can see by the tread pattern this must be a known issue. Never had this problem with the 928. Guess I will go back to them if I don't fall and break something walking in these. Fortunately in Vegas it is dry most of the time but sprinklers on the sidewalk create a hazardous situation. BEWARE!!!
