A month or so after I started wearing these, a top plastic double-holed grommet on both shoes cracked creating wedge shaped jams which makes it ridiculously difficult to either tighten or loosen the shoelace. Had these shoes been a $25 pair of knockoff cheapies instead of a $190+ pair, I would have thrown them in the garbage. Instead, I put them in my closet and forgot about them. Today I tIt's hard to believe that a reputable manufacturer would pinch pennies by using plastic in lieu of brass on a supposedly premium product. I cannot remember a metal grommet ever failing in my 72 years of shoe wearing. I tried again today them on with the same result. I cannot recommend this product.

I purchased these shoes on April 21, 2022. The top of the left shoe (near the big toe) already has a hole in it from just walking and running. I have never had a shoe do that before. I had a pair of 768's that lasted for years and were the best shoes I had very wore. The soles wore out way before any other part did. These 990's are not worth the price. No shoe should only last three months.

Bought and returned because of CEO affiliation with far right US politics. Still a large donor in 2022.

Wore shoes once and the outer sole paint started to come off. Tongue had a whole when it arrived. Bad quality control. Come on new balance can do better. It's made in the USA!!!!

I was sent the 990v5 men’s shoe instead of the women’s. Why do they have the same number? For clarity, your site should bring both men’s and women’s sizes up at the same time.

I've been a huge fan of the 990s and 2002s for years and always buy several pairs of each generation to wear throughout the week. I spend long days on my feet for work and these shoes have been the best fit & comfort for long days. I loved the 990v4 and had 5 pairs of them!
HOWEVER, the V5 of these shoes are awful, they're noticeably bigger than the v4 in the same size. You can put them side by side and see the toe box is wider, the shoe is bigger and after buying a couple pairs of my normal size, I found out that I needed to get a half size smaller just to sorta fit correctly. I've never had to change shoe size in 20+ years.
Also, the various color/style options are completely different fitting/comfort from each other. I've bought and returned several pairs of each and still have comfort issues with these shoes after wearing them for several weeks. It seems like there is either a QC issue or a materials sourcing issue. I've never seen this guy of inconsistencies on the shoes.
For shoes that cost over $150/pair, I'd have expected more from these. I really want to like them, but the V5 are awful and i've given away ALL of my pairs way early or nearly new because they're impossible to wear! Here's hoping the V6 are better.

Unfortunately, I had to return the shoes because they were too tight. I have also been waiting for two weeks for my credit card to be reimbursed.

Disappointing. They were out of my size. I tried a half size smaller. I was notified the next day by email that they were out of that size also.

The webbing across the top developed a hole from the toe rubbing against it underneath. The more you wear it the larger the hole becomes. Not good for an expensive sneaker.

I have bought New Balance for years and I was really looking forward to my first pair of 990 v5. I watched an online video documenting the build process. Reviews were positive. I was sold. When they arrived I thought they fit a bit too tight. No problem I thought, they'd stretch just a bit after wearing them. After the first day I noticed the from ball of my foot to the toes had a weird texture - like I could feel the structure of the shoe or something. Again I thought it was probably fine and would go away. But, no it didn't. I pulled the foam insert out to inspect after a few days and felt around inside. The surface of the insole is irregular and there are pronounced bumps towards the front half of the shoe. I compared the 990s to others sneakers I have - there's not supposed to be bumps on the insole. Sorry to say this but this is clearly shoddy workmanship. I strongly recommend reconsidering purchasing these shoes or at the very least, carefully inspecting them before wearing them. As a matter of fact, these are the worst New Balance shoes I've ever bought. Had I pulled out the inserts and inspected the sneakers before wearing them I would have returned them. They're not returnable if they've been worn. Be warned!

I use the product to run. I am not a long distance runner, but only run a couple miles per day. The new shoes are horrible. Very surprised. I had a previous pair of new balance shoes and they were great. I need to return these. they are like running on planks.

It's the 990 that I wear and meets my needs.
Zappos had my size where the New Balance Store did not.

Left shoe if bigger than the right. This is the second pair that had this issue. No it's not my feet. I'm 40 and this isn't my first pair of shoes. Zappos QC is lacking. My first order was for size 11. Left was bigger than right, so I returned and ordered a 10.5. Again, the left was bigger than the right. It's bigger by about 1 size. Feels horrible to wear waking around with 2 sizes. NB quality control and zappos QC needs improvement. I don't recommend these shoes from zappos unless you're right foot is bigger than your left.

This is my favorite style of New Balance but I expect higher quality at this price. After wearing my shoes a few times the soles are peeling near the heel and the material has cracked all around the grey portion at the bottom. Disappointed in the appearance and this issue did not happen on older versions of the same style shoe.

I can’t imagine how this shoe gets five stars. Big heavy, clunky and uncomfortable.
Wears like a $70. shoe.
No tongue lace through, the tongue is constantly far off center.
Virtually non wearable.
Very disappointing in this model.

This is an expensive shoe. I expected it to be better quality. For example: the tongue is too short. It slips down into the shoe. I pull it up; it slips down. Other high-end shoes at least have a loop in the tongue that you can thread the laces through to keep it from slipping. New Balance has a lot cheaper models for sale that seem to be virtually no different from this model. It's not a good value for the money.

Bought a pair of shoes made in the USA
Bought the size I always wear, but the shoes were small.
Looked on the LLBeam website, they recommend to buy a size 1/2 larger than what you wear.
I wish new balance understood their sizing issues as well as LLBean

Rmthats shoe was a wide shoe for wide feet. It's not the same 990 NB that I normally buy in the store. I returned the shoes to swap.

I have purchased several pairs of the NB 990v5 for my husband, the past 3 pair that I have purchased have been very disappointing. On all 3 pairs the sole has come apart. I have been a long time customer of NB, but I cannot recommend this style. They are definitely not worth the outrageous price. My husband is a small frame man and has not abused the wear of the shoes.
I have been a ZAPPOS customer for many years and I will continue to be, they are awesome, but I won’t be purchasing anymore of these shoes.
New Balance is not the shoe company they use to be ?

This is the 2nd pair of 990v5 I've bought hoping for different results. I've worn the 990v4 for several years and it's helped with foot and back pain. Something has changed in the v5 construction that's brought the pain back.
