I have had three pairs of these shoes and every pair makes a squeaking noise, the noise is coming from the plastic material on the back of the shoe, the shoe is for stability, so if you are looking for cushioning this is not it, other than that they are very durable, but for the price they should not squeak, all the material besides the plastic seems to be made good.

First pair great, lasted a year. Second pair, like a different shoe altogether. Very, very uncomfortable from the get go. Shoes also began to peel on the sides. No more for me.

Have been ordering this NB shoe for years. The thing I always liked about New Balance is their consistency. NO MORE. The size 11.5 Narrow that I ordered is a full size longer than my previously ordered NM & wide NOT narrow. I leave for vacation in 3 days so no time to exchange. Yes...these shoes have been so marvelous in the past that I have never had to "break them in". Worried about NB's quality now.

Would give zero stars if I could. — After LESS THAN 6 days, the mesh in the toe box began to wear out, fray and break through. There was literally a hole in the new shoe within a week. I have been buying and wearing these NB for 40+ years and have never seen such poor workmanship, poor quality or a shoe falling apart. Very, very sad for a once great sneaker.

Look, I wear a 12 extra narrow (12AA). I used to be able to get this shoe in all of its colors. Now only the light grey. They soil too quickly. I want more choices. Do the right thing for 12 AAs!

Awful - my ankles hurt after walking 2-3 miles in these and they are too wide. These should be perfect for the price they sell out and they are some of worst shoes I have bought in the past few years.

I really like these shoes and I was very happy to pay a bit more to support American manufacturing. However, after 5 months of light use my toe started poking through the top. The seam had failed. I don't run or exercise in any significant way. These shoes had been used only for short walks every couple of days and general daily life. I believe they failed due to a manufacturing defect...but since I only have a sample size of one I can't guess how common this is. However, this part of the shoe is held together with only a single stitch so it isn't the strongest part of the shoe. I usually keep shoes for several years and have never had them fail in this way, so I don't think it is anything related to my usage. See attached photo...that is my finger sticking through.
Where things really went bad was when I contacted customer support. I explained the situation and asked them to replace the shoes. I also would have been fine with some sort of credit towards another pair. I was really expecting NB to stand by their premium product in some way. Sadly, all I got was a lecture about how NB doesn't discount their product. I asked them again to work with me on this or I would write a bad review. The response was "Thanks for contacting us". So, here I am with a bad review.
I was hoping to buy more "Made" products, but after this experience, I won't be. Sorry NB and the American worker. I tried to be your customer, but you really gotta stand by your premium products better than this.

How can you sell these shoes for the price you and justify it? Because they are made in the USA? Must be why the insoles wear out in less than 4 months. Do not buy these shoes BUYER BEWARE!

I bought several pairs of 990V5 in the past. The pair I just returned was not the same quality of any of the other pairs. There was a clear difference in the overall support in both the soul and heel areas. I realize your introducing the 990V6 soon, and I question why you would sell shoes of a lesser quality.

I don't know if this was just an error in production. Or the NB geniuses in marketing decided to cheap out the 990. I've had several pairs and the laces on my new shoes are way too short.

I bought a pair of New Balance 990's 9 months ago (1/26/22) from a NB retail store in Richmond, VA. I liked the fit and comfort. I tied them loosely. Never ran with them. Only walked with them on sidewalks, dogparks or occasionally in the green. I drove with them. I work from home. At home, I wear slippers. Anyway, after 9 months of pretty average daily wear, these shoes fell apart. The heel on the right shoe became detached. The tread wore down significantly. While they are comfortable, their quality is horrible, which is sad to say. I love buying USA made stuff, and I actually know NB employees who have worked at their shoe factory in Skowhegan. Hate to say it, but I will not be buying New Balance again, big disappointment.

New Balance - what in the world have you done? You had a great shoe for people with foot trouble. I've bought 990s for years. This version is HORRIBLE. It feels like there's no cushion underneath. If you have heel spurs or plantar fasciitis, you might want to look for another brand of shoe. I've now tried 4 different styles of New Balance because I need new sneakers and they are all subpar and not worth the money. Why in the world would you take a good thing and make it unwearable for the people it was meant for?

My son wore the shoes on the first day and the sole completely fell off the shoe within 8 hours. Never had anything happen like this with shoes before.

Shoe is too high and too heavy compared with various Nike styles. Perhaps I ordered the wrong shoe.

New balance has a quality control issue— the left side width was too tight. Upon comparing the sole — laid both shoes on the floor for precise comparison— we found out that the right side sole was wider and true 6E. The shoes are being returned.

Will never buy these again, the shoes are comfortable but that suede gets dirty real easily.

Unlike their predecessors, the mesh on these deteriorates quickly as does the outsole and midsole cushioning. The arch is also much flatter than previous editions. The paint on the outsole also flaked off within two weeks.

Best shoes with inserts from the Walking Co. These shoes have been a life saver. They are wide and provide great support. Zappos simply the best when it comes to service!

I received the 990's I ordered but they were too big. I'm told that it is not known when the size I need will be in so I have no real knowledge of the 990's yet. My fingers are crossed that the size I need will be in soon!
