After about 10 pairs of Speedcross 4 (I am a fan :)) I bought the new Speedcross 5. I run only trail, mostly 'technical' (roots, rocks, mud) with some elevation change, 30 to 50 miles per week. I noticed right away that the "5" had a different topside, much looser, much more of a 'glove feeling' than the "4". Last weekend I ran the Bryce Canyon 50K and the 'lock' to tie the shoes came lose on the downhill. Probably a faulty lock, no big deal. I kept it in place by tying my shoes 'the old fashioned way'. However : the looser upper give much less support on the downhill and I felt my feet sliding (a bit) in the shoes. The Speedcross 4 has a more rigid upper, feels narrower, and as a result gives more support. I came home and bought 2 more pairs of "4" before they are discontinued. As long as you can choose between the 4 and 5, know that the 5 gives less support. Otherwise the shoes are comparable. Go Salomon!

The speedcross shoes are an outstanding shoe. The rubber soles do not hold up so well on concrete or asphalt but on turf they are super aggressive and perfect trail traction shoes. The tan and black color I ordered has a "very" pink tinge to it. Still great shoes and once they dirty up a little you don't notice it but just accessorize accordingly :) (All other colors have been per their photo) They run a little small I've order a half size larger than my normal shoes (11 in my running sneakers and 11.5 in Speedcross ) and this seems to be the right fit. They are also a little narrow but they offer a wide version as well.

They are good in every way except that the sole and inside wear out very quickly.

I've been wearing Speedcross since inception. Finally I have to move on to another brand since the color choices are awful.

The heel cup fabric had tears after just a few runs. The sole lugs wore to flat in just 4 months!

Bought these to replace an older pair of Speedcross 4 that served me well for years. Two major complaints with the 5: the floating tongue is annoying and requires fiddling to get 'just right' before tightening. The 4s could slip on and go with a perfect fit every time. Other gripe is the change in sizing. I've owned multiple pairs of Salomons over the years and 9.5 was always perfect out of the box. With the 5 I had to size up to 10 and while they fit they're nowhere near as comfortable as the 4s. I'll also note that after a month the Ortholite sticker under the heel on the 5s is peeling up whereas on the 4s it's embedded and fades rather than peels.

I bought them because the write up met my needs/wants. They look excellent as well. When I tried them on they are not wide enough. Saloman needs all of these hiking shoes and boots in extra wide sizes.

Purchased these looking for a narrow (size 14) fitting shoe, and while shape and cushioning were great, sadly the sidewall(?) construction was weak, and the shoes pinched my foot in several places due to folding fabric/material, however I do believe this was an inconsistency in the manufacturing of the shoe, as the left shoe didn't have those issues, and there were no visible folds in that shoe. I'd say also that the lacing mechanism did little except to tighten the neck of the shoe, which made it feel uneven in how secure it was.

I literally have this model from each of the last four years or the equivalent. Overall one of my favorites and best shoes for everything from under 10 mike runs (more cushion for longer) to standing at work all day and hiking. However every year seems to change the fit. This years run long. I did try n the half size down and it seemed like a full size down.

I was so looking forward to the latest model and so sorely disappointed going from the Speedcross 4 GTX to the Speedcross 5 GTX. The fit felt off and what I loved best previously was the ease of getting into the 4 now felt more like pulling a shoe and sock on and having to mess with getting my socks from bunching. Sadly I am returning them and not sure If I'll order a larger and wider size or trying other shoes.

I bought these on 5/21/2021 and in 2 months the sole is worn out. I wore them in normal terrain for 3-4 times a week. Might have gone max of 3 miles a session. Apparently, these are meant to be for muddy and soft terrain. But the wear was unexpected for me. These are my 4th pair of speedcrosses so they are comfortable for sure.

I run thousands of miles each year so get through quite a lot of trainers. I am a big Salomon speedcross fan having tried all the previous incarnations. I first pair of 5's I had to send back as the insole creased towards the front of the shoe during a 20mile race, not the ideal time to generate a huge blister on the sole of your foot. The replacement pair seemed great at the start, where the old salomons always wear through where it bends behind the big toe, functionally they were still good and I could usually get a few more months running out of them before they completely fall apart. The 5's seemed to have resolved this flaw but instead the rest of the shoe starts to fall apart instead! It's a shame, they look great, feel great, and are awesome though any terrain, but just have such a short life span. I have gone back to the 4 again for my last pair.

Took longer than expected to put on even with tight socks that were thin. Got the tongue pulled to the correct position and even with the laces fully loose shoe was tight like a very tight glove. Planning to return for the next .5 size larger and if possible one size wider. These were 10.5 EE.

I bought this shoe recently having previously owned a pair of speedcross 4s and used them until they could be used no longer including on fell runs and long trail runs. The grip on the 5s is excellent in the wet. Would be giving this product 5 stars had Salomon not played around with the sizing, there is a bit too much room in the toe box on the newer model and a bit more room for my foot to slide around. A bit of a shame really. The lacing system also seems to get stuck. Overall, not dissatisfied with the purchase of the 5s, but given the option, I would go for the 4s every time. Unfortunately can't seem to find them anywhere now.

I have walked approx 40 hours in the shoes. They are designed for off path but when on wet paths and particularly across wooden bridges the grip is quite slippery. It is a pity, as otherwise excellent shoes.

Been running with this shoe for 7 months now. Prior to this I had the speedcross 4 which I absolutely loved. Purchased the exact same size in the speedcross 5 but the fit is different. It's too wide for my foot and therefore causes the insole to slide around and curl up beneath my toes on descents. I have to keep stopping to readjust the insole.

Bought this shoes a few months ago because of the great traction it provides in the grass and dirt and it does it very well.. I use them strictly for playing disc golf and already after 1 tournament the front rubber tread at the tip of the toes has begun to split from the shoe. Disc golf is hard on shoes because you drag your toe on rocks and concrete pads on your throw. That is my only complaint in anyway and it may be a bit unfair to judge it from that harsh of use. Other than that, it's the best trail shoe I ever bought in my 35 year years.
