4.5 - these are lighter weight than my Moabs and seem to have less padding. That's a plus for hot weather as they do have ventilation which helps keep my feet from overheating but they also have less cushioning in the soles as other reviews have noted. For me this was resolved when I put my orthotics in and they are great now. Others may want to use more cushioned insoles such as for athletic shoes. However with the sale price they are still a very good deal :) These are very stable with a wide toe box and good traction. They were a bit stiff at first but within a few days they were fine. These will be great for summer hikes. I really like the brown neutral color with the pink.

I wore my Alverstone's to the grocery store! I Love Them! They feel as if they are already broken in, like I am walking on air! I Love the suction cups on the sole. They make me feel like they will take me where I need to go. I think these would make good running shoes also. They are Fabulous!

Comfortable. Supportive. Perfect for all the terrain walking and town walking I do, and I never have to change my shoes! Live in an RV full time so space is tight -- I own these and two other pairs of shoes. They are the ones I put on every day.

I'll be returning for one relatively small quibble: the fact that the tongue of the shoe is secured along its sides gives me less adjustability for my high instep. There's a gusset, but a detached tongue would give me even more room.

I wore these for my first time ever hiking! They were comfortable with great arch support and very sturdy for rocky terrain. After awhile, I didn't notice I was wearing them. In other words, I had no problems whatsoever with them.

I usually wear a 9 1/2w. I tried the 10m and the width was fine, but my toes were hitting the end. I returned and got the 10 1/2m and they fit perfectly. I have troubles with my ankles when walking on uneven ground, and with these shoes it didn't bother me.

I wear a 7 1/2 and rarely need to upsize on shoes that aren't pointy. But my 2nd toes (I've got Morton's Short Toe, so my 2nd toes are longer than my big toes) were pretty smooshed up against the toe box in these. I considered up-sizing to an 8, but a 2nd brand/style of shoes that I bought at the same time to compare felt perfect on my feet. So I opted not to up-size on these, returning them instead. I will say that the arch support in this brand/style (Merrell Alverstone) was great for my high arches, even better than the 2nd brand that I ended up keeping.

Really love these hiking shoes. They're comfortable and supportive. Tread keeps you from sliding on loose rock. I would have given the shoes 5 stars instead of 4 on comfort, but they're a little heavier than other hiking shoes I've had.

I usually wear a size 8 and ordered an 8.5 to allow for heavy socks for hiking. Initially they were snug but after wearing them for a day just walking around the neighborhood they are perfect. The arch support is why I love Merrill’s and the padding around the top of the shoe gives enough ankle support there’s no need to add my own. I hear a second pair calling my name.

Wow! After buying so many pairs of Merrells, I was surprised when my toes jammed into the front of these shoes. I need a wide, roomy toe box and these seem to have plenty of room. Just so short. I'm exchanging for a 1/2 size larger.

I love this low topped hiking boot, so just bought a second pair. I use it as a walking shoe and it definitely helps my stability. It's lightweight enough that I don't notice having them on when walking.
