What is going on with the sizing of these Merell Alverstone shoes?? I have a pair from a few years ago, and they were pretty true to size. I usually wear an 8.5 shoe, so I ordered the 8.5 and a 9. The 8.5 was too small, so I thought the 9 would be the perfect fit. The 9 was smaller than the 8.5, and I was barefoot when trying them on!!! I am hoping the 9.5 is a better fit with socks on! I definitely recommend ordering BOTH a half size larger and a full size larger and try them on at home to see which one fits better.

I have high insteps and high arches, a narrow heel and normal to wide foot. I have worn merrell hiking shoes for about twenty years. My current MOAB2 waterproof though comfortable are getting old so I’m looking to replacing them. I didn’t find this style at all comfortable. They felt stiff as though I was walking on boards. There was no flexibility in the shoes. Furthermore, I ordered my usual size, yet my toes touched the tip of the shoe: the toe box. Knowing that this would create pain on hikes, I tried a half size up: size 10. In fact, even though the shoe was longer, my toes slid forward and still touched the toe box. I cannot recommend this style of shoe.

I've about written Merrell off completely! Wow, I used to wear several styles of Merrells for decades, until about 3 years ago. Every time I try another model it disappoints me. Never enough cushion and that air cell feeling, like they used to have. They're almost always too hard and thin, especially in the forefoot. They put everything in the heel and some kind of new HARD arch shank that doesn't feel good. I have high arches, but won't live with "getting used to" a hard rock pushing up into my arch area.

The shoes are super cute, but squeak when you walk and are not as comfortable as other hiking shoes that I have worn from Merrell

These shoes were really comfortable except for one thing. I'm not really a person who needs to pay attention to arch support, and these shoes have high arch support that hit me in the slightly wrong place, so it felt like I was walking on some weird bump. I had also ordered the same shoes in the waterproof model, and they don't have that problem, so I'm keeping the waterproof ones and returning these. (even though the blue color is cute)

Really like these for walking - dogs, no dogs, whatever. Very good support and arch; fit is a little loose but laces can be drawn up to make it work well - EXCEPT at the heel. The heel cup is loose and tall, so my foot slides up and down just a fraction when walking. No big deal, causes no rubbing or soreness, the support is still fine --- but it creates a loud belching / squeaking sound that is embarrassing with every step. I actually liked them so much that I ordered a second pair within a couple of days, but am now returning pair #2 unworn because I assume they will cause the same noise. Very disappointed, but still like them so much I'm keeping pair #1, for walking out in the woods or something....

I really like Merrill’s—they’re comfortable all day—but this pair makes so much noise when walking that I dislike wearing them now. I can’t return them because it didn’t start until I’d worn them a day.

I’ve been buyig Merrells for years and this one was smaller. Not as comfortable as usual

High arches don’t match up to my low arches. Too much room in the toes, even though I think of myself as Med-wide toe based. Painful! I wish I could return, but trail tested them. They felt good in my house floor, hurt on the trail.

Worst pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. Not comfortable from start to finish. I only buy Merrells so not sure what went wrong

These shoes broke on me not once but twice after the first wear. Zappos was great and sent me a replacement but those immediately broke as well.

I greatly anticipated getting these shoes. So many good reviews & they looked so nice. I tried them on only to find I felt like I was walking on jagged rocks! The arch support was horrible, too extended & very hard, cutting into the foot. At least for me, they were absolutely disappointing. I gave 1 star because they were a nice looking shoe. Back in the box they went & returned.

My normal size is an 8 so I ordered an 8.5; returned for a 9.5 which felt the same as the 8.5. Didn't order again as I didn't want to go to a 10.

My size was too small; ordered one full size up and felt the same as smaller size. Don't want to go any higher in size.

These were very comfortable out of box except they made me feet burn. I have always bought Merrell boots and shoes but something is different about the manufacture of these, could be the dye used in them, I really don't know but I hope I do not have to find a new brand to wear. They were made in China and my other Merrells made in Vietnam, don't know if this could be a different manufacturing process.
