Looked great, fit great, price was great. The problem was the shoes were noisy. Too noisy to think a break-in period would be a difference. I think it was the webbed material grabbing at the tongue. Each step sounded a little like velcro opening and closing. Or having a layer of thin, crinkly plastic in between the upper layers of the shoe. Sadly returned. Will try another style.

Just got the shoes. Anyone else have issues with the "plastic bag being ruffled" sound? If so, how long does it last? Does it go away as the shoes break in?
It's pretty annoying.

This is a negative 1-star review. Yes, that clearly puts me in the minority on this one, which others rated highly. But I need to be honest, so here it is: I will not be buying Merrell again. Why? The left shoe squeaks. Loudly (not a typical high-pitch squeak but lower in tone). Always. On all surfaces. And it's not getting better after 2 weeks of wear. Now this may seem minor to some, but when it keeps happening with every single step, and is loud, it is a fatal problem to me. Maybe this is just a defective shoe, given that only the left one has the problem. In a sense, however, that would actually be worse. Because it might be a lack of manufacturing standards, or reliability control, by Merrell. (This sole, by the way, is not the Vibram soles I've had on Merrell shoes in the past). Anyway, I'm done with Merrell. Like many customers, it's about more than just making the right purchase decision -- I need to know it's right when I make it. It's about confidence in the product and the company. I wish I could offer folks a recommendation. I'm still looking for a good waterproof shoe (not boot or mid-ankle, but shoe). Will let you know if/when I find it. It just won't be Merrell anymore for me.
