Been using the Ferrosi so a few weeks now mostly for hiking and I plan to use it for backpacking, hunting, fishing, my job and everything in between. It is perfect for high exertion activities as an outer shell! My favorite part about it is how well it breathes. The Coyote/Fatigue color is an awesome. I wish Outdoor Research made more of there products in these types of colors.

I bought this mainly for casual wear, but i like it so much I now use it for some of my outdoor activities as well. Very comfortable and the material really allows you to be active and move around without being restrictive. My only minor complaint is that the sleeves are slightly baggy, but I haven't worth this over heavier layers and maybe it would be better with a puffy underneath in cold temps. I also see they came out with a bunch of new sweet colors! I will probably get another soon.

I was skeptical when I received this jacket as it was much thinner than previous softshells I have owned. After taking it on multiple trips now, this is by far the best layer I have ever owned. From warm breezy days at the crag to frigid winter summit pushes this jacket is great everywhere. I recently used this on 15 degree summit push with 40 mph winds. Only wore a gridded fleece underneath and I was perfectly warm all day without any loss of mobility. I can't recommend this jacket more.

Comfortable and light weight. Effectively blocked wind and kept me comfortable with a mid layer with 20 mph mountain winds and temps around 40.

Great layering piece - over a fleece midlayer and under a belay jacket. Adds significant warmth without restricting movement. Go to outer layer this winter when breeze is up but I'm moving. XL properly sized for layering flexibility - would consider getting second next size down for warmer conditions use with a single base layer.

In the mornings, I go for a walk and it's a bit chilly, but gets super sunny halfway through, so this jacket works well. I'm a little chilly starting out, but by the time it's full sun, the breathability keeps me cool. Will be nice when I go to the sierras in the summer and there's a mixture of super super sun exposure but coldness and wind. And when I go cross country skiing in Quebec next winter.

Where do I even start!? The Ferrosi has a loyal following for a reason. It's just that good! I tend to run a little hot and this thing stays on when the temps are in the 30s at the start of my hikes/climbs, to when the temps are in the 60's when I finish (crazy desert variances).
The arms are long for a reason: mobility. When climbing, shorter arms and a shorter cut is a bad thing. The length enhances the freedom of movement.
The thumb loops are brilliant! I use them a lot. And the stretch of the fabric makes this thing so comfortable!
I don't know how it regulates temperature so well, but it does. It'll keep me warm while not letting me overheat.
I have never found a more versatile piece of gear in my life. The Ferrosi is my favorite shell/piece of clothing ever.
Buy one. You won't regret it!

I used my Ferrorsi jackets very often for hiking and climbing and view them as more versatile wind shirts. They are very light but still provide a fair amount of insulation value, especially the version with the hood. This is my 4th Ferrosi jacket. A very nice return to form from jackets 2 and 3 is that this one has interior zipperless "drop pockets", which are handy for carrying larger objects like maps. (My 1st Ferrosi jacket also had these pockets.) The new jacket has a cheaper-seeming plastic zipper which has much bigger teeth than the zippers on the previous versions; time will tell, but I think the new zippers could be more durable because of the larger teeth -- the zippers on my first Ferrosi jacket eventually wore out. The stretchy and durable fabric is a kind of softshell.

Perfect fit. 6'1" 160lb and the large leaves room for my baselayer plus a thin fleece underneath. The sleeves are long so they cover up your hands nicely but also stay above them if you push them up. Recently went snowshoeing with temps in the 20s and I was comfortable wearing this and a mid weight baselayer. Breathes wonderfully and I love how stretchy it is.

I've had the Ferrosi hoody of the past version and now the most recent one, too. I don't see any negatives at all. Its a great jacket that is functional, useful, comfy and good looking. I really like the forest/turmeric color combo on my new one alot and I love the improvement in the sleeves, too. A+ product from an A+ company...all the way!

I bought this for backcountry skiing and it has outperformed my expectations in every way. I run pretty average heat-wise and wear my Ferrosi jacket and a wicking layer as my only clothing on top between 30 and 15 F. It does such a great job at heat regulation and wind resistance that you never want to take it off.
I cannot speak to the durability of the item as I have only used it around 30 days but my other OR gear has survived countless offwidth while other gear busts on the first climb.
Lastly for fit, it is perfect (6'2" 170lbs) it also looks super nice. 10/10 recommend this product.

It's still winter here in the northeast, but I'm still using the jacket as an outer layer over a fleece jacket for some light hiking and outdoor activities. There's not really much added warmth, but it has been working well so far to keep the wind and water out! I'm looking forward to using it more!

Outdoor Research is my go to brand for outdoor clothing. This is the ultimate lightweight jacket for hiking, camping, or just casual wear. It's a 'Jack of All Trades, But a Master of None' so to speak. The material is a durable but thin and lightweight nylon fabric that is stretchy and comfortable. This jacket best suited for mild temps such as spring and fall or around dawn and dusk when the temps begin cool and get warmer, or begin warm and then slightly cool off. It is water resistant in light drizzle and will cut a good bit of wind but it's not made for prolonged exposure. This is just a good all around lightweight layer. I own three of these so far and will likely purchase more. Fitment is on the athletic side. My chief complaint is that the color represented for Retro Red in the marketing photo's shows a to be a much darker, almost crimson red tone. On other sites it even appears darker and more Maroon like however I could not find any reviews describing the color. The actual Retro Red jacket that I received is a much brighter and more vibrant color than depicted in the photo, so buyer beware. My Black and Navy Blue jacket's were as the photo's depicted.

I dare you to find a review that isn't complimentary on this one. Who doesn't love the Ferrosi hoody? Its a great cool weather jacket. Stretchy, good looking, blocks the wind ok. It has no insulation really but its a nice shell over a fleece when its colder.

This is a very nice light jacket. It's made extremely well, fits great and looks good. There's enough room in it to wear a fleece underneath.

This soft shell fits a specific niche within soft shell jackets. Extremely breathable and tough, perfect for active use. I love the hood and the thumb holes. This jacket has become my go to for shoulder season hikes!

Typical OR jacket fit. A little tight but it stretches very well so you can fit a couple of layers under there. Is a Summer softshell. Not very insulating from cold or wind.

Much lighter than I expected, but not disappointed!! Great on those chilly days where you dont want a heavy jacket. Even better for early morning runs. Keeps you warm, but not suffocating.

I live in this layer. This is the best mid weight layer I own and recommend this to everyone. I lead programs a month to two months in length and I love this layer. It is not only comfortable but looks professional.
I wear this all day when in winter and north woods active conditions on ice and snow. It fits layers underneath helping to keep them dry.
This is a great layer to put in when i get into camp and wake up in the morning in summer and desert conditions. The hood fits nicely over whitewater and climbing helmets.
