I walk 50 miles a week in my subdivision, exclusively, not on a treadmill. I tried the Challenger ATR 5 b/c it came in wide. I previously had Rincon and loved the wonderful comfort. The Challenger is not near as cushy. I just returned from my walk and the bottom of my feet are sore so I'm returning. So grateful for Zappos allowing returns 365! Thank you for being so customer service focused!

I really like the Hoka shoes they are really comfy, and look really good, however they are not made for my feet apparently, after a couple of walks my foot hurt on the right side in my heel, I would recommend these shoes to someone just not for me....sorry

I really wanted these to work out but sadly they didn’t. Even tho they come in half sizes, it was as if I needed an in between size. The tongue came up quite high and was annoying. Otherwise very nicely cushioned shoe, just didn’t fit me right.

I guess I'm not a Hoka fan. I liked the shoe but because the back of the heel has a considerable rise at the rear base, it made walking weird for me. I am used to a trail runner that has a solid, flat surface with only a slight rise at the tip of the heel. I don't like how they make me feel when standing or walking. Also, the shoe is so lightweight, I question how long it could even last. I'm used to something a little more rugged. I know they are popular, but not a good match for me.

I have been wearing Hoka for six years now for racing and training. My go to shoe is definitely the Clifton. A friend suggested the Challenger for trail running as the loose gravel wears the bottoms of the Clifton's out. After researching I thought they were a "trail" version of the Clifton. Shorter runs (5 miles) were okay however, I ran two 10 milers in the Challenger and I had metatarsal pain both during both runs. Not enough support/cushion in that area for me. I was hoping they would be an alternative for gravel trail....back to my Cliftons. (I also run in Mach, Rincon and Carbons - all great shoes.)

At first, I thought the shoe felt great. But, after wearing them on a walk for their inaugural outing, the left shoe rubbed a blister on my back heel that was so painful, I had to stop mid-walk and take my shoe off. I have high arches and where the shoe hits at my heel is super painful. Wish they could be returned. I spent a lot of money to only wear them once. ?????

I love Hoka shoes - but the way the models change is frustrating, as I cannot get the same pair time and time again.

I have put many miles on my Hoka Challenger ATR 2, 3, and 4 so I was sure the 5 would be great. Sadly, the toebox is shallower on this version, which made them very uncomfortable for me. So bummed.

So...these sneakers were recommended by my podiatrist because of my recent surgery and line of work that requires me on my feet most of the day. They are NOT attractive at all?(sorry). They’re very clunky and doofy looking in person. Initially I ordered a 10W which were WAY TOO big so I returned for the 9.5W. I guess these sneakers are not a fashion statement but comfort so far is ok

The shoe body itself fits well. The insole and sole were OK for my feet but they altered my gait and that cause hip and low back pain. They’re almost too soft and spongy. The arch support is nice. Toe box is roomy in all the right places for my feet. Would I buy them again - probably not.

Friends comment their cute. I feel no support in arch. Will see how long they last they're super light which almost makes them feel cheap with no cushion as well. Bought them for road and trails

I have several pairs of the Challenger ATR 4 which are a very comfortable fit for me and my orthotics. The ATR 5 doesn't fit quite the same. Put extra pressure on my neuroma which doesn't happen with the ATR 4. ATR 5 felt a bit smaller/narrower in the toe area.

I ordered the Challenger in a 8.5. It felt at least a half size too small. I thought for sure I had been sent the wrong size, but no. Really good looking shoe, but it just did lace up with no extra lacing for the extra holes for the ankle fit. I'm not ordering a 9 because I had plenty of toe length. Perhaps a wide would have worked but the Challenger didn't come in a wide. This is a good looking shoe. I ordered the Medieval Blue/Mallard Green which is a great color combination.

So, the sole on these and all Hoka shoes is supremely cushiony and comfortable. Unfortunately, these have an awkward toe box for my foot - it’s too large and the fabric folds oddly when flexed. It was too distracting for me to get used to, so I returned.

I wanted more room in my shoe than the Clifton 4, so I tried a trail shoe. What I gained in width, I lost in arch support.

Size was great, but the wide width wasn't much wider than the medium width, especially in the instep. Arch support was fantastic.

These shoes are light, flexible, and breathable which is very enjoyable on a run! They feel stable on trail which is important. A couple issues I'm having are they lack any kind of arch support, so my feet are floating around in them, and the cushion is really lacking in the forefoot. It has a blown out feeling. These also do not hold my heels in place which I find a problem with most hokas. These could be perfect with a better cushion like the challenger 3's and some arch support. Fingers crossed on the Challenger 6's

CONS: The insole made my feet burn and it scratched. The heel cup was very uncomfortable. The arch was in the wrong place for me. The cushion bottomed out immediately. There were a few hot spots on the upper even though the shoe was plenty big. My feet were extremely tired and sore after my test run. PROS: The shoes were actually wide enough for my uber-wide feet. The traction was excellent. The build seemed quality and there were no obvious defects. BOTTOM LINE: I had to return these. I DO want to say a big thank you to Hoka for finally making wide widths.

Not sure if I would recommend depends. It's a bit wide at the toe and I don't get the support I prefer.

I bought these in a wide, thank you for the Wide sizing, it's greatly appreciated! Loved the shoe and the cushioning; however, all 3 pairs of HOKAs I have purchased rip on the side on top of the shoe within 60 days. For a $120+ pair of shoes, this is very disappointing!!! Please work on the quality of the upper part of the shoes!! The bottom is great, just need to last longer on top!!

The fit is good but I have a narrow foot and they are very wide. Soft comfort on inside they just seem too high, like a high heel
