I hesitated to buy these due to cost, but they were recommended by my foot doctor to ease the pain when I walk due to arthritis in my big and little toes. They are worth every penny as the pain is now gone when I walk.

I am a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and was fitted for shoes 4 years ago due to problems of being on my feet all day. I bought a pair of Hoka women's challengers and have not worn any other shoe for work since. The shoes fit well. My knees and feet don't ache at the end of the day. I recommend them to all my nursing friends.

I really love these shoes. I used them on 3 trails so far and where I would normally slip or fall with any other shoe, these kept a very great grip and handled the terrain wonderfully. Great shoes!

Let me just say I love these shoes. Lots of fun colors, wide toe box and great support. I returned them because they are on sale for $25 dollars off direct thru Hoka.com. Zappos is my go to shop and they have the best customer.

My husband I both bought a pair. We tried them out and OMGoodness! We walk 2 miles everyday for the last 30 days and they have held up to the challenge of wear, comfort, and providing me less back pain. I have chronic arthritis in my lower back coupled with bulging disk which limits my desire for mobility. The thickness in the soles and heels provides a level of cushion that decreases the impact on my back. We are going to buy more an other colors.

I hike a couple times a week and the summer time i really like a lighter shoe. This one feels great and is not too hot. They have good traction and do great on loose rock. I definitely will purchase again from Hoka. They have excellent customer service and really stand behind their products.

I love my Hokas! I am a 47 year old woman. I hike and run a lot . My knees where really starting to hurt. I do not have much cartilage left in them. I started wearing Hokas years ago and they have made a huge difference for my knees. I do have to tie them using the 2nd hole at the top to make a loop to help keep my narrow heals in place, but otherwise they are great. My soles of the shoes wear out before the support of the shoe.

9/10 I buy lower profile shoes so I don't roll my ankle and stick to Asics but after being out due to illness/injury I wanted to try a different brand that could guide me back into top running shape. I've tried Brooks in the past because of their wide option and the softness but in the end they were too heavy and soft, like walking on marshmallows. I opted for the Challenger because I bounce between trails and road on most of my runs and I'm super happy I did. I was worried a thick or "high" heel would cause problems with rolling my ankles but I have not had any issues with these. I have a wide foot and the wide options for these are perfect. I will admit that the higher heel changes my running style slightly because it makes the back of my legs and bum work a little harder but my body made adjustments after a few runs. Honestly from the reviews I thought these were going to be obnoxiously soft but they are the perfect amount of firmness and stability I need to dash through the forest and desert and enough cushion to endure the pavement on the miles back to my house. I bounce between Arizona and Alaska and they are great for both desert and forest weather and trails! I would 100% buy these again!

These fit great! I wear a 6.5/7 in regular shoes so I went with the size 7. I walked over 5mi in them right out of the box without any issues! My feet feel great!

Felt comfortable right out of the box. Like the weight as they are not as heavy of some of my other Hoka models.

I’d give these shoes 10 stars if I could. I’ve had several surgeries on my left foot, and was looking for a walking shoe with a good bit of support, without too much flex. These shoes exceeded my expectations in every way, and I can walk in them totally free of discomfort. I’m even thinking of taking up running again! My feet are broad in the toe area with narrow heels and high arches. I wear custom orthotics. Typically Saucony has been my go to athletic shoe. I like Hoka better now. Hope this helps anyone else with problem feet looking for the perfect shoe!

These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn--very cushioned, light weight and supportive with great traction! It's like you're walking on a cloud! I own a pair of the Bondi 6, as well, which are incredibly cushioned and comfortable, too, but my lower back hurts me now when I wear them on long walks--so after reading the reviews I decided to give the Challenger ATR 5 a try. I normally wear a 7.5 Wide but they were not available in the color I wanted, so I got a 7 Medium which ended up feeling a little short and tight after walking longer distances, so I stretched them and now they're just great though next time I will buy a 7.5 Wide even if I don't like the color. Also, I wear Spenco Cross Trainer Insoles with all my athletic shoes which gives me a lot more support and added cushioning. All and all, I would highly recommend these shoes!

After ordering 8 pairs of shoes in 3 different orders, these shoes fit perfectly right out of the box. I tried other top brand trail shoes but my arch was way to high for their style of shoe. I was having foot pain in my worn out shoes but these shoes feel amazing! It's like walking on clouds. I ordered the wide width and they fit my very (in my opinion) wide feet comfortably! The large toe box is also very comfortable.

I am now in month 5 of plantar fasciitis. It has been very difficult to find shoes of any kind that I could wear without increasing the pain. I had tried Hokas several months ago...but the pain was too intense at the time. This time, I am able to wear the shoe with an added Dr. Scholl plantar fasciitis insole for extra heel cushion. I am increasing my wearing time and am hopeful I will soon be back to walking. I usually wear an 8 1/2 womens...the men's 7 fits well...giving a little extra toe box room without being a "wide" shoe>

This brand was recommended by my podiatrist for a newly diagnosed neuroma. The Challenger ATR 5 was a great fit for me. Firm, supportive sole and cushioned insole. Almost no neuroma pain unless I'm on my feet for hours. This style is very similar to the Challenger ATR 4 which has the same features. I usually get a half size larger in athletic shoes to allow for thicker socks, etc.

I love these shoes! I bought and returned two other (painful) pairs (Nike Vapormax 360 *this is a horrible shoe do not buy* and Altra Lone Peak) before settling on these.
I have worn these for some long walks and am ready to review.
I am a daily walker (2-5 miles) and these are very comfortable on the pavement or any terrain.
With previous shoes I had mid foot and big toe strain but these leave me feel like I am walking on air. Very lightweight and I feel like I could walk a long time in them.
I only with they had more color choices, but I didn’t buy them for looks. Although, they are cure in my opinion - they aren’t made for style like a Nike. They are made for function and it shows. Also, they tend to get a little warm with a thicker sock.
You probably won’t need to size up or down. I sized 1/2 up as I usually do for running/walking shoes but these run absolutley true to size in my opinion.

I have short wide feet (5) but a wide was not available at the time. So I went with a 5-1/2 which was perfect in the toe box area but too slim through the body of the foot. I opted to exchange them instead for the Bondi 2 which were a much better fit and much more comfortable. I suffer from heel pain and shin splints and the Boris corrected that issue, much to the happiness of my Husky ? who demands long walks. The ATR is still a great shoe just not quite the one for me. Thank you Zappos!

These definitely fit true-to-size for me and are very cushiony and comfortable. I feel my calves working harder (and that's good!); similar to walking in sand. Time will tell how well the bottom holds up.

Just started wearing these yesterday so it's early to review, but already my feet and knees feel better. My Solomon trail shoes were comfortable but very heavy, but these are amazingly lightweight and cushioned which is what appealed to me. Great support, and the plum/red is awesome. I have bony feet with high arches and high instep with narrow heel and wide toes. My sneaker size is 8 - 8.5 W and the size 8 W is perfect but I did need to add a thin arch support insert. These are my first Hoka but will buy another pair when they get more colors in my size. I wish more of their styles came in wide.
I'd also recommend:
