I just wrote a review on this shoe, but forgot to add another great feature: the laces STAY TIED!! What a new experience for me, since this hasn't happened with all the other running shoes I've had, for years! Came back from a walk/run a while ago and realized my fussy feet are in love with these Challengers! Can't believe the fit and performance!! Thank you, again, Hoka, SO much!!!

I just wrote a review about the Speedgoat 4, and I'll say almost the same things about this shoe! It's really awesome! After trying Brooks and Saucony for years, even trail shoes, these are worlds better! I've never put on a running shoe on that has such a custom fit! The recessed heel feels wonderful and very natural, then I get a great arch contact and then the just-right toe area is roomy and round - not pointy. I need wide widths, and I did order these in my usual 7.5 for a running shoe. But, it was too BIG! So I got the size 7 and it is perfect! This shoe feels so fantastic on dirt/rock trails that I ran more the first time in them than I had for over a year - and I'm 66! They grip perfectly and have a very natural step/landing/takeoff. The price is great, too, compared to the Brooks that I was wasting my money on. They also do feel just as good on pavement as they do on off-road. Thank you, Hoka! Someone is brilliant in your company, when it comes to shoe design -- and I have very fussy feet with lots of issues. But no longer do I feel like kicking these off and throwing them against the wall when I get home!

My Rheumatologist recommended this shoe for my arthritic feet, knees and hips. I would say they have helped tremendously. I have been able to walk for longer periods without having to stop for pain.

I returned this shoe, but will probably order it again! So many great features, but i wasn't sure about the full comfort picture, since my feet have changed so much. But, after trying many other brands...They are made well, fit the shape of my foot well, actually feel like the footbed supports the heel/arch area very well while taking the forefoot into a non-stress stride at the ball of the foot. My arch is high, so getting arch contact in neutral athletic shoes is rare. Also, if you have metatarsalgia or ball of the foot pain, this "rocker" style feel very natural. Heck, the Earth shoe company has been making this dropped heel shoe style for decades. But when you walk in this Hoka, it doesn't give any weird feeling of a negative heel, just feels like walking in sand or how your foot should work. I wasn't sure about the cushiness or firmness of the Challenger - it has both. There is definite lofty gush, but the bottom is firmer with its lugs and outsole material. But now it seems that's a great combo, especially if you workout on dirt and pavement. So, I'm going to try them on again, thanks a zillion to Zappos!!

I have difficult feet and these are perfect, wide toe box, great cushion and support. I wear aggressive arch supports and they fit into the shoe just fine.

Hokas were recommended by my orthopedic surgeon after foot fusion. Purchased May 2019, they're just now showing some wear, but I've worn them almost daily, from working in the garden to hiking in the mountains. They clean up with a scrub brush and a hose. In January I took out the standard insoles as they were getting flat, and replaced them with customs from my podiatrist. Like I had brand new shoes again! Let's see how far I can go with them til I need another pair! Yes, they aren't good on icy surfaces, but I've thrown microspikes on them, and all is good.

The coveted cloud cushion that Hoka is famous for, but most of their shoes don't actually have. I usually wear a 7.5W-8W and these 7.5W were the correct size, but my toes are big and wide, and my big toes rub against the sides of the shoe very uncomfortably. Back to Altra... hopefully they will hire some designers from Hoka for aesthetics (but not fit).

I loved the 2018 so I was pleasently surprised when the fit was a little better(length) and they added more stability in the outer sole. And still not a bulky Looking Hoka.

This shoe is amazing, super comfortable, great style......however the size 8 is too small and the 8.5 was too big. Very disappointed at the sizing =(

I LOVE Hoka One One as a brand. The shoes protect my feet so well and I have been very happy with all of the shoes I have chosen to keep. I have tried a couple of Hokas that I have sent back mainly b/c they aren't as good for me as other Hokas. The shoe itself (like the ATR 5) might be really great and I will still return it. For my foot, I haven't found a better shoe in the world than the Gaviota in a wide width. Because I find the best fit with the wide width I am always so limited in available colors. I jumped at this ATR 5 b/c there was a dark purple color available in wide. The shoe was Hoka great, but since I know I will be using it in the gym for a variety of activities I found it a little bit off in terms of the fit for me. The insole felt a little hard to me along the outside / mid part of my foot. This has been a place of injury for me in the past so I am sensitive to it and opted to send these back. They were good looking, stable and supportive but not perfect for my foot in this case. I appreciate the opportunity to try these different shoes as I can't just go to a store and find my 8.5 wide Hokas for actual try on.

I really liked these as soon as I tried them on. They fit my foot like a glove, which is great because I have that "duck-footed" condition that so many of us seems to think is unusual. So, the toe box was big enough, the heel was narrow enough. They actually made my size 11 foot look smaller. The sole was a little different - I think it will take some getting used to, but it's not uncomfortable. It just felt a little squishier / thicker than I'm used to, but that's probably a good thing for padding.

I wear these for an hour a day to walk on pavement and gravel. They are very supportive for my sensitive, arthritic feet. My street shoe size is 6.5. I took a 7.5 in these.

These provide great support and are very comfortable. Now, instead of my feet hurting at the beginning of my shift, I'm able to work the whole twelve hours with hardly any foot/ankle pain at all. For my fellow nurses out there, I highly recommend these shoes.

I am enjoying both the look and feel of these shoes! I have a narrow-to-medium foot and ordered the 8.5 (my regular size), and found the fit quite comfortable. The stable, padded sole is definitely the best thing about these! I took them on a 4-mile walk right out of the box, and my feet felt great throughout the walk and after.

Fantastic fit, a true wide shoe. As most folks with a wide foot my arch is flat to non-existant. The low to no arch support suits me well. Love these shoes.

I normally have to buy wide shoes but this toe box is roomy enough that I didn't need wide in these shoes. I ordered my normal size and they fit perfectly with my orthotics. I am very happy with these shoes and I recommend them to anyone looking at these shoes.

I add orthotics so I can’t speak to arch support. These shoes are great, wore them in a 5k the day after if got them with no break in time or blisters. I usually wear thicker socks but ended up wear thin ones so maybe they run a bit smaller. Only cons: the padded tongues push up on my ankle joints giving them a dull ache and my little toe on my right foot felt a bit of pressure. I resolved the ankle issue my tying my laces down an eyelet.
