I was surprised that this shoe felt so hard and stiff. Had the left shoe on for barely a minute and it made my foot hurt! So, back in the box it went. I didn't even bother to try on the other shoe.

The biggest issue I faced with this shoe was premature sole wear. I have owned them for 2 months, as a walker averaging 4 miles per day, and the lugs on the outer perimeter of the sole are almost gone. Usually my Sauciny Omni’s last 6 months. I can count on 2 pair per year. With the premature wear of these shoes I’m just about ready for a new pair, going back to Saucony, because who wants to spend $150 4 times a year!

Apparently they needed to increase their profit margins on this particular shoe and make it from much cheaper material than the first. For instance, I bought Gaviota 1s prior to running a marathon and they were amazing and amazing quality. I buy Gaviota 2 here recently and it's just the cheap nylon material and not even close to the original. Don't let Deckers cheap manufacturing ruin this line of shoes!!

I really wanted to love this shoe as it seemed perfect for my feet when I first tried them on. I ran almost consistently in Nikes before these but because of my flat, over-pronating feet, I was experiencing injury after injury. I needed to find a cushioned stability shoe to get me back on track. The toe box on these was so narrow that my foot would go numb even after loosening the laces.
I ordered a wide (EE) size hoping that it would fix the problem, but the wide created too much space causing my foot to bounce around when I ran creating some nasty blisters. Hoping the next model will be a better fit for me!

Kind of clunky looking but just have to get used to it. I put orthodics in and they are very comfortable. Just a little big, but half size down would have been too small. They definitely don't make my big feet look smaller, but sometimes comfort wins.

My son calls my Hoka's "clown shoes" but even so the Gaviota was a run saver. After a knee injury it was the only shoe that I was able to run in. Gaviota 2 is OK. The arch support seems more prominent. Initially the shoe felt firmer and less cushioned. But while running it felt fine. However, my cranky knee is cranky post run in the 2 in a way that it is not in the original. So there are some changes in the shoe that have changed either the support/stability or the cushion.

After a knee injury the Gaviota has allowed me to continue running. I tried the 2 on immediately following a run. After stepping out of the original and into the 2 I could feel a difference. The 2 seems stiffer and not as soft. It also felt narrow, but I had also ordered a wide width and that felt fine. After running in the 2 its OK. Its not the same as the original and I can feel it. My right achilles tendon has said hello after being silent in the original. My cranky knee is cranky after a run while a similar run in the original would have been fine. I don't know if its the stability/support piece or the cushioning piece -but these shoes have disappointed me.

I was looking for a running shoe with overpronation support and fair amount of cushioning. This GAVIOTA 2 had perfect amount of cushioning and I definitely noticed a difference in impact on joints while running in these v/s other shoes i.e these are far better in minimizing impact. These are incredibly lightweight and Overpronation support is optimum. I love the flatness of the sole as I feel it provides more surface area for impact with the road. Can't really comment on durability as I've had these for about a month now and they seem to be holding well.
CON -
short shoelaces - this is very surprising, I have never had running shoes with such short laces. This might sound petty complain bit I think having optimum length shoelaces for a running shoe is one of the basic requirements. I use heel-lock-lacing but it's difficult to tie regular knot so forget about heel-lock-lacing in these standard laces. (-1 start)
Slightly narrow - This could just be me but for some reason I feel these are slightly narrow and overpronation support sometimes dig into inner side of the foot while walking but haven't noticed any discomfort while running. (-.5 star)

I have been wearing the same pair of Challenger ATR 3 for almost 2 years. My feet began to hurt and I realized it was time to spring for a new pair. I was in love with those. I'm flat footed and I'm a nurse on my feet all day. So I decided on these because of the increase in "stability." However, there is no difference. In fact these shoes are flat and super hard!! I prefer my old worn out challengers to these. These also fit much larger than my others. I will return these and hopefully get another pair of challengers. Alergria doesn't go small enough to fit me! Which is why I like Hoka so much. Hopefully I can find a pair to replace my old ones without changing brands.

The shoes are great the only issue I had was that it was too narrow even when I bought a half size bigger.

I'm mixed on my review. I initially loved it, than I really didn't....now I just finished one of my best training runs in two years with little to no foot pain. I feel they are growing on me and hope to have a better review in the coming weeks..

The Gaviota 2 shoes do not look like they are good quality and are uglier in real life than they are in the pictures.
With that being said, I can not knock them for their comfort and support. Having fasciitis I was advised these shoes would be a good choice for me.
By far the most comfortable shoe I own.
If you can get over the clunky looks and cheap looking material, you will have one of the most comfortable shoes made.
Great arch support.

I was super excited to try these shoes. All the reviews I read told me that for a supportive shoe this was the way to go. Normally, I like Brooks, but thought what the heck let's give these a try. My previous shoes were the Beasts that I wore for over a year. For me to do that is unheard of. I am on my feet all day teaching. So, with the excitement of something new I got these about two weeks ago. I thought maybe it's a break in process and they would feel better but it's just not happening. I also bought a pair of the Akasi's for my daughter, she is a track athlete and absolutely loves them!! However, these are not what I was hoping for and will be looking for something else. Its unfortunate because they look great and spent a lot of money on them. They just don't fit my foot the way they should.

I had the blue Gaviota and loved them. I donated and wanted to replace with a new pair. My BAD with my choice of white. Sending back for a different color.

This show ran very large. I sent them back. I didn’t exchange for a smaller size, because them just seemed very “clunky” looking.

I have been running on Hokas (and other brands) for several years now, and I was very happy when I found the Gaviota; I'm not so happy with the Gaviota 2. Not sure what they've done with the sole, but it feels stiffer than the one used in the previous version (23 miles into them and they are still very rigid, and not in a positive way). They did something with the toe box as well, though they are ok for me, in comparison with the previous iteration of the Gaviota, the new ones are quite narrower. And the laces? What can I do with these laces that are so incredibly long? Triple-knot and still hanging by the sides (but this is a minor issue). Overall, I'm sad to say, but I'll need to search for another shoe that gives me what the old Gaviota did. However, it is very possible that for other runners, what is unpleasing to me might be very pleasing for them.

The most cushioned shoe ever. Loved how my feet felt in the shoe. The only issue for me with my over pronated feet was the sides of the shoe did not provide enough supported stability for my ankle and made my ankles pronate even while walking. The arch support could have have better also. If only it was more firmer -- I would have not returned this shoe. If somebody doesn't have the issue of overpronation -- I would recommend this shoe anytime.

I love this shoe, super comfortable! I've been waiting for Hoka to add my size for months. The size is FINALLY available, so happy, then I see the boring color selections. WHY HOKA? WHY? All other types you offer come in vibrant selections.

I don't know who is responsible for the color choices but again these are seriously disappointing colors. Gavoita is the best shoe I have ever felt on my foot. I need the stability of the Gaviota but would like a sensible color combination like the Gavu. Maybe the answer lies in have a custom design option like Nike does. People can design their own colors? Just my 2 cents.

As much as people love these, I didn't. I love bright colors, and wide with (with orthotics), but hands down these felt like clown shoes, even on the trail.

I have had maybe 20 pairs of Hokas over the past 5+ years but this particular model hurts my left foot. I have bought another pair since and will continue to buy your products but this model was disappointing.

I love Homs, and this model was the first time that I have bought one online without trying it on first. I don't think that I will do that again.
