The heel design is too tight and caused significant discomfort.m. Otherwise, I really liked this shoe since it was attractive looking and supportive.

I normally love New Balance Shoes. I'm also quite used to the initial "tight fit" going away after a few days as the shoe itself stretches. While somewhat painful for the first few days, if you "tough it out" the shoe fits great once the shoe has finished stretching. But this shoe, however, lacks the padding around the heel. No matter how much I walked in this shoe, no matter how I adjusted the lacing/tightness, the lack of padding around the heel just ground the back of the shoe into heel - keeping my foot in constant pain, a small bruise and the creation of a small blister on the heel of right foot (only). Shoe felt ok on the left foot, but not great. The shoe, for a running shoe, also felt relatively "clunky" for lack of a better word. The toe box on this shoe was surprisingly large compared to other New Balance running shoes I've bought in the past. Assuming you can live without the rear padding found on most running shoes, maybe you'll like this shoe. But for me, this shoe was probably one of the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever bought. Thankfully, due to Zappos great return policy, I'm not stuck with them - after 10 miles of use I shipped them back and got something else.

I purchased these shoes after much research into good shoes for wide feet. I can only call them a disappointment. They felt great out of the box but after a month of wearing them, the backs have completely worn a hole on each side which is giving me blisters. Very disappointed and could not buy them again

these shoes fit like a glove and looked nice. Thought I found what I was looking for till I took the first step. The heel skewed foot inward in a strange way.
Never experienced this before. Maybe these are not the neutral shoes I was looking for? Anyway, had to send them back.

I want prospective buyers and New Balance to know that this shoe failed within 4 months. I used this shoe IN-DOORS only, 2-3 times week for less than one hour when I lift dumbbells. Recently one of the top eyelets tore out making that shoe useless. I have happily purchased many New Balance shoes for years. Until now I have counted on their comfort, quality and durability.

A comfortable shoe although the heel is a little wierd - it just feels different, maybe low on the back of the heel. Overall the shoes look great and are comfortable to wear. My main complaint is that they feel a little hard in the heel from a cushioning standpoint. I actually have a little heel discomfort after putting in 4-5 miles. That's never happened before; I may be returning these shoes.

I bought these for my husband. And he is very easy to please with tennis shoes. He has worn New Balance in the past. Fit and size was fine. But there is a defect on the heel area which discomfot.

They took a great shoe and ruined it. Toe box is narrow and area around heel opening is weird and feels like it’s always slipping off. I should have bought 10 pair of previous version.

I was really excited for these and ended up very disappointed. I purchased these for the extra cushioning and supination support, and these have not been as effective as some standard NB's and other brands of sneakers I've worn. Additionally annoying is when I'm stepping off or applying extra weight in the toe area, the toe box develops an indentation. So when walking longer distances, I can develop cramps in the outside of my calves because they don't help with the ankle rolling.

Felt as if it had a lot of stability in the heel due to the cushioning.

Fir seems ok, but the back wall of the shoe is extremely thin, not at all the padding I am used to with this brand. We'll see if they start to feel loose in back, or if the wall starts to compress the more frequently I wear them. Not optimistic.

I have been buying this model New Balance for years. The company tweaked their design and no longer works for me. The heal is much too narrow now. Good luck if you try.

They fell apart in one month. We have always loved New Balance, but this was ridiculous

Wow, This is a $150 running shoe?! This shoe looks and feels like a cheap discount big box store shoe that should be thirty bucks. The "Fresh foam" part is dead on...everything is a foamy spongy/elastic to this running shoe including the laces. There's no way these will provide lateral support with the spongy fabric and every part of the shoe being elastic...I am not impressed and the 4E feels like a narrow D or 2E. My $50 asics were better material than this shoe. I guess I have to stick to made in America New Balances or back to Brooks or Asics.

The Version 9 of this shoe is a complete fail by New Balance. After several terrific versions of the Fresh Foam 1080, New Balance inexplicably decided to significantly change the design of the heel counter and ankle border. The former cushioning is gone, replaced by a thin synthetic material with an inward swooping, seamed ridge border. It rubs your heel and the sides of your ankle. Very uncomfortable. They still fit. They’re still cushioned. But, the minute you walk you’ll know you’re version 9s are completely different, and significantly worse, than previous versions. I also felt like they were more cheaply made and that the seams and lace eyelets were not as well made as my beloved version 7s. So, if you just try on the 1080 version 9s and like them, good for you. But, if you’re expecting the same comfort, quality and design of the version 7s or 8s, you’ll be disappointed. I am a New Balance fan, but I sent these right back.
