This shoe is very firm and made stiff like a boot. I believe it would be good for balance or support, but not cushy. The inside is just as stiff as the outside. It's sized as a wide not an extra wide. The toe area is more narrow than other shoes its size. It will take a while to break in. But, the durability of the shoe will last a long time.

I really, really wanted to keep and love these shoes. I was jazzed about the waterproof quality and the availability of extra wide. They felt sturdy and comfy except for the fact that they felt about a size too large. Not a problem for most people, but I'm a size 5, so they don't come any smaller!! The story of my life with shoes, except that New Balance was the one company bucking this trend. Only one shoe, out of the six pairs I ordered fit me. The rest were too big.

Have been walking several miles daily and this shoe is not flexible enough for me. It is most definitely waterproof and that's why I tried it. Will continue wearing it this winter , but switch back to a running shoe in the spring.

I love New Balance for the sizing options. This years color combinations were not my favorite, did not like the light gray border on the sole.

I returned the shoes. One shoe did not fit right. My foot slopped out of the heel.

So they are not a very attractive shoe but they are not for everyday wear so that matters less. They are stiff andrugged, not light and comfy like my other NB Fresh foam sneakers. However, this makes them rugged and sturdy which is what I was looking for when I bought them - for field and wooded terrain, like a hiking boot in a sneaker style.

I already own a pair in regular width but with my wide feet my doctor recommended i go with the wider width. Tried it and it's too wide in the ankle area so i lose the support, which is much needed.
