I've had these for a while, used them for hiking, lawn care, walking around the neighborhood etc. good shoe, durable, the heel box is pretty comfortable and adds great stability. Traction is excellent even when I was in Hawaii on the loose surfaces I'd the trails. No real complaints. On the old model I did eventually tear through the speedlace and had to replace them. Otherwise they are a solid shoe for the day hiker

Why Salomon why?? The shoe is fabulous. It provides excellent support, lateral stability with a stiff sole that prevents energy loss. So, why would you use a lace system that doesn't easily allow certain areas of the laces to be relatively tighter or looser and the fastener mechanism at the top slips...negating the purpose of laces. Shoe is great...lace system is tragic. Hey Salomon...how about offering the shoe with conventional laces too??

I bought a pair of these without the quick lace and gtx (couldn't find exact pair) and I can't lace them up tight enough to hike in without an embarrassing creaking noise with every step. They've just been sitting in my closet for a year now unusable. This was my 4th pair of this line of shoes from Salomon, the other 3 were gtx and have served me well. That's why I gave 3 stars instead of 1.

I've been a big fan of the XA Pro's for a long time and have gone through several pairs over the years, even own a pair of X Ultra 3 mid GTX that have worn like iron. These however have been the worst boot for break-in I have ever bought. From day one they have had nothing but random hot spots and rubs and can feel the edge of the insoles in my arches every step. Probably should have returned them but figured I could tough it out and break them in. Finally after over a month of wearing them to work almost every day they've finally started to break in but still not great. Only reason I gve them three stars is because of the good stability of the boot and the feel that they'll last ,which is why I bought them in the first place. Definitely won't by them again, I'll stick to the XA's.

I have a lot of Salomons. I have been buying them due to the footbed and support of the arch. They are also very durable shoe. The only complaint about the x ultra 3 is that there is not as much support for the arch in the footbed. This is the big reason I purchase Salomon.

I purchased this shoe for trail running. It is a very stiff shoe. Not much flexibility across the fore-foot. Hopefully, as time goes on it will become more flexible. If you like a solid shoe with no flex for your toes...this is the shoe.

The material on the inside of the shoe breaks down fast due to sliding the shoe on and off with the BOA style lacing system.
