The boot performed well across all aspects (durability, comfort, weight, etc.) with the exception of WATERPROOFING. This shoe might as well have no water ingress protection. While I didn't expect full waterproofing (not really achievable), a couple of stream crossings (without full foot submersion or water over-the-top) resulted in significant water ingress in the midsole to toe box area. This is not what I would expect from a boot marketed as waterproof using Goretex technology.

I've worn these boots for a few day hikes with moderate vertical, rocky soil and 40lb pack. It has very good support, comfortable and fairly lightweight. It is goretex, which is great for water resistant but not great for heat or breathability. Overall a good boot.

Fit my left foot in the arch but not my right foot; arch felt out of alignment with the shape of my arch. First time this has ever happened to me with hiking boots (c. 40 years of experience with dozens of boots purchased of many make/model).
Had to return them. They look sturdy, and my left foot felt comfortable. Wondering if this is a flaw in the model (I tried 2 different pairs).

Very light & fairly comfy shoes, but the sides are very stiff & I hope they loosen up a bit after while. All reviews about them needing no time for break in is BS.

The wide width runs narrow and is more like a D width, but I kept the boots regardless. They do require a wear-in period and feel much better after a few wearings. Design-wise, the eyelets should be closer together. Stuffing in the tongue wings and getting the boot tied properly is a nuisance. Avoidable with better design. Nice light weight, good water resistance. The boots are noisy - it sounds like I'm walking in flip flops no matter how I alter my stride and step. Bothersome. Again, a design thing. In terms of overall appearance, I think they've done a good job with these.

I bought these boots about a month ago after seeing several of my coworkers wearing them. They're well-made and seem as sturdy as my last pair of boots (Danners), and WAY better than price-comparable boots like Bates. They're very lightweight, which is great if you're active. The only thing I would say is that they run a little small. I'm normally a 6.5 in men's shoes, but went with a 7 in these boots because it's the smallest size they make. The 7s, even though they're a bigger size than I usually wear, are still a little tight in the toe box and tend to rub pretty hard toward the end of my shift.

I am a huge Solomon fan, have four pairs of hiking boots for the various seasons. These I bought in April and it is July and my feet are beginning to hurt. Seems like these boots breakdown and don't last. Time for another pair

four stars so far, have only been on longer day hikes, still too much snow up high for backpacking. These boots felt great out of the box, no break in needed. the traction is excellent even when wet. i did have to go one size up than normal. after my day hikes was not feeling like i needed to get out of the boots like other brands. the only nit pick there is more debris in the boots, not sure if it's the great traction or the collar seems more open. do not know yet about durability but if like my other salomons, no worries. For the quality, features, and price there is not a better choice. thanks salomon.

Great features and a great fit. Only improvement would be to add Quicklace lacing. A fast and secure lacing system used on most of Salomon's trail shoes.

These are great for fall/winter but need a mesh version in wide, Gortex is not good for hot weather.

Bought these and right out of the box they were comfortable, no break in period. Went out the following week with friends and did a light hike in the mountains. After 1 hike, the sole was breaking along the tang where the heel meets the arch. Would not use these on any hard rock hikes. Maybe good for the pedestrian paved trails or soft dirt. Kept these for decent pair of winter boots over the past two years with occasional hikes.

I love this model of boot so much that I am on my fourth pair! Same model, color, size, etc.. I wear them everyday for everything; work, leisure, hiking. I traipse through 3-4 inches of water and my feet stay dry. They give me great arch support. Having said all that though, I shouldn't have to be getting a new pair every 8-12 months. The soles ALWAYS start to separate from the upper and when that happens the waterproof integrity is lost. When this happens I have relegated the last three pairs to being my "work boots" and continue to use them until the soles eventually peel completely off and then I throw them away. Salomon, you need to re-examine how the soles are attached to the uppers and make some changes! I love this model and hope you never discontinue it to the point where I am going to buy another pair to keep in reserve for when my current ones have the inevitable "blowout".

Disappointment. Quality was not there for the par I purchased. Have only worn them 3 times on light trail and part of the material is coming off. They are comfortable but don't think these will last long for the money you spend.

I have had many pairs of Salomon and have gotten family hooked on to them as well. For many years the Salomon line of shoes were my go to for all my shoes, recently that is not the case. The goretex on these shoes lasted maybe a year and started to leak leaving my socks damp. Reading many other reviews about durability and water leaking. Salomon really need to look into their quality as it is going downhill.

I bought these shoes a few months ago, I've worn them hiking two times and also use them to hunt in. Great shoe as far as comfort goes and waterproof ability, grip is decent. My major problem with these is after moderate use the right shoe has developed a seriously loud flop or pop noise around the ball of foot area on the top of the shoe, every single step I take. No matter how slow or fast I walk the pop happens every step. It is very annoying and for how loud it is I can no longer use these to hunt for any animal would hear me coming. For these reasons I couldn't recommend this shoe.

I bought these for shoulder season in Winter hiking and while I find them very comfortable supportive warm and waterproof the soles are showing excessive wear after about 50 miles of hiking. I just don't think they can stand up to White Mountain granite. The tread pattern is very open and I'm sure that contributes to more pressure on the few logs that are there cause men to wear down quickway. They are quite grippy but I imagine that crippled fall off rapidly as they wear down. Other than the sole the boot is holding up excellent It's just sad that the boot will long outlast the soul and it's not replaceable.

I've put about 50 miles on these with no break in. Salomons are hands down the most comfortable pair of hiking shoes I've ever owned. However, I don't trust them on wet rock after many close calls and they become caked with mud after trudging through wet surfaces. Disappointing that they use the same weak tread pattern on all shoes-I don't get it honestly. These need some proper lugs and a more aggressive pattern on the sole as they grip only slightly better than running shoes at times. They're perfect for long, moderate DRY hikes, but don't bet on them keeping you upright in adverse conditions. I use Oboz for anything remotely technical so as not to fall on my face.

Bought these as a replacement for my older pair that was starting to wear out. Not as heavy as last pair and much lighter construction.
We'll see how they hold up.
Already noted they're a little tighter around ankle.

New to Salomon hiking shoes and was unable to try these on before purchasing because of low supply, I decided to follow the size guide listed. My feet measured 285mm, the guide recommends an 11 so that's what I went with. Upon first try on they felt a little snug but I figured they'd break in a little and hug nicely, unfortunately this wasn't the case. I went for a six mile hike and my feet yelled at me the entire time and now I'm stuck with a pair of boots too small. Overall construction and quality look above average and I would definitely recommend but be mindful of the sizing and I would suggest going up a half size from what they state.

2nd pair of X Ultra 3 wide. Great comfortable fit, but soles wear out far too soon. 1st pair was very grippy on all types of terrain and trusted them. 2nd pair is like teflon when touches a wet rocky surface. I have to be extra careful when wearing them, especially when traversing downhill. Fallen a few times when should have held. Presently looking for a better solution.
