I had been using trail runners for some time but got tired of wet feet and dumping gravel out of my shoes. I decided to try these mid tops. Very impressed by the light weight and comfort. Still waterproof after many miles. I got the wide. Not quite as wide as my old trail runners but still plenty of room in the toe box.

I bought these to replace my worn out hikers based off a buddy's recommendation. Super glad I did. They're great shoes. They've managed to keep my feet dry on every hike and they're a lot more comfortable than the pair they replaced (that brand starts with an M). Traction has been excellent no matter how much mud I'm in. They provide enough ankle support to keep me happy packing a 60lbs ruck on mild to moderate grades, but I'll probably move up to the Quest 4Ds when I go out to Colorado next year. I single bit of caution, if you use their size chart, it's a prefect fit for normal athletic socks. (The width for the wides is spot on, FYI) If you're like me and like thicker wool hiking socks for cooler weather, I'd recommend going up a half size.

I have taken delivery of my new Salomon boots and was very pleasantly surprised. Having read several reviews I opted to go a size up as I have wide feet and I'm glad I did so. The boots feel comfortable straight out of the box and inspire confidence, meaning I'm hitting the trails today. One thing I have noticed, is the lack of registered trade mark symbol. This for me is a little odd and opens the door to possible fake boots on the market. Is this something Salomon can change. I bought my pair through a reputable dealer and have confidence in my purchase. I do feel that there should be better attention to detail as the boots aren't cheep. I have seen some other reviews which have drawn attention to dampness and quality. This is something I will pay particular attention too and will review in the future. I would say though. These are at best three season boots, the ankle is low and gators would be beneficial in very wet conditions.

Super bequemer Stiefel, guter Sitz, Vorderfu ideal gelagert. Einziges Manko ist, dass die Schnrsenkel am Schaft nachgeben und oft nachgeschnrt werden muss.

These light weight boots have all the features that I want in a versatile boot: comfort, water proofing, and good grip. Some heavier boots make my feet hurt on longer hikes (>10 miles), but these remain comfortable all day. I live in Colorado and use these for day hikes and backpacking throughout the state. These are the best boots that I have used in that last 10 years, but I am looking for a new option due to a durability problem (see below). I used my first two pairs on my Appalachian Trail thru-hike (each pair lasted ~1000 miles). Keep in mind, each pair was destroyed and I waited much longer to replace them than I would have when I'm not thru-hiking. Either way, the fact that they were useable for 1000 miles was very impressive. Despite the X Ultra's ability to last during high-mileage hiking, the boots tend to quickly develop holes in the toe box where the toes bend at the foot. My most recent pair developed small holes within the first 100 miles of use (mainly day hikes). Even these small holes are problematic because they compromise the GTX function and quickly become larger holes. Unfortunately, the result is having to replace these boots prior to getting full use out of them or continuing to use the boot without the waterproof feature. I love these boots and think the performance and comfort is outstanding. I like the GTX liner and the breathability is decent. My experience with Salomon's costumer support for a different issue was fantastic as well. However, I don't like hiking with wet feet for a couple hundred miles or more when the holes start forming. Would I recommend these: it depends...

I recently tried a number of pairs of hiking boots. Note, I’m not a serious hiker, but have been doing moderate hikes each weekend recently. Keen targhee III mid WP: These were my keepers. Very comfortable, sturdy, light. Wore them on a 4 hour moderate hike yesterday and was happy with them. Oboz Bridger BDRY: Comfortable, sturdy the heel is a bit weird but I would’ve gotten used to it in the end the back of the shoe seem like it might be too tight and would eventually rub too much against the back of my ankle. Solomon mid gtx: Comfortable, sturdy. I’m an in between size and ordered the lower size. There was a bit of tightness at the top of the foot that would probably been gone with a half size larger. Merrell Moab 2 Prime Mid Waterproof: These I ordered in the higher size and also in a wide. They were just too big. But they might have been the most comfortable. The Keens worked out for me otherwise I would have given these a try in a better size. Solomon low ultra 3 wide gtx: Comfortable but I realized I ultimately wanted a mid rise. The pull laces seemed iffy but the reviews don’t seem to indicate a problem. Solomon low X Raise Gtx: Felt a little snug putting them on, but once on they felt comfortable. I realized I ultimately wanted a mid rise. Again, the pull laces seemed iffy but the reviews don’t seem to indicate a problem.
I'd also recommend:
Keen, Merrell

Wish Salomon kept making these with the speed lace system!!!!!!! Salomon Forces aren't available through Zappos. Anyway, aside from the laces, this boot is great. Same great fit and support. LOVE that it comes in a size 7!!!!! Pretty hard to find nice mid-height hikers in that size. Also wish that non-GTX versions were more prevalent for summer usage.

What I like:You can hike with these boots right out of the box, minimum break-in required. Extremely light as well. It honestly felt like I was wearing a pair of running shoes. The grip was also outstanding, on any surface. And, of course, it is truly waterproof. It was raining during our hike, and I was constantly walking on surfaces with my boots halfway submerged. My feet remained dry and warm. What I don't like: The sole wears out much quicker compared to my MOAB. There is also a hard part on the tongue, where it was sawn to the upper part of the shoes (pictured), that presses against my skin. It is directly below where the shoelace runs so the more you tighten the shoelace, the more it presses my skin. I did not feel it right away at the store, but the longer you wear it, the more you feel it. This is the only reason why I did not give this boots a 5-star. What I did was kept puling the tongue so the part is not directly below the shoelace.

Narrowest boot I have ever worn. I have never had to order a wide size but apparently for these boots I do. Unfortunately there are no wides in my size in stock in any color.

BOY is this shoe narrow. If you even have a slightly wide foot, go with the WIDE EE. The XA Pro 3D has alot of width forgiveness, but this shoe...NO CHANCE. Go 1 FULL size up from your true foot size as a rule with Salomon with Goretex. Mesh models, go 1/2 size up.
I'd also recommend:
Addidas, Rockport, Merrel nd some Timberland.

I have three pair and thought they were best hiking boot ever until I did some very challenging terrain. I'd still say they are perfect for my average 20 to 30 mile day on reasonable trails, 14ers, or at work, but if you are on slippery mud, roots and granite then there are other shoes that perform better.

I bought these as a lightweight alternative to my trainers. I recently had an ankle injury so needed extra support. Since getting them 1 month ago, I've trekked the Tour Du Mont Blanc & the Haute Route. They've been great & still look new

Der Schuh sitzt perfekt und ist auch auf langen Wanderungen sehr bequem. Trotz Gore-Tex ist der Schuh auch bei warmen Wetter angenehm zum tragen. Preisleistung stimmt perfekt.

This is my second of this type and it is a good and dry shoe to wear in marshy terrain. The forst pair I wore out. This second pair seems to have a quality problem, parts of the upper shoe is starting to loosen and bend away from the sole, same problem on both shoes
