I just bought these and wore them on a 10km hike right off the bat. The lacing system is good, although mine end up too long unless I loop them around the ankle, and then they're too short, lol. Maybe I have small ankles?
I got blisters on both heels during this hike, and I can only hope they break in. I have two other Salomon hiking shoes that continue to give me blisters, so we'll see.

These boots look very muted with greens and brown on the website, when you get the actual boots they are very green.

The rivets holding the laces are too deep or long and cause pressure on the top of my feet.

Absolutley love the weight to stability ratio of this boot. They are very comfortable right out of the box. Lacing system is awesome, price is fair, however, after less than 20 turkey hunts averaging 5 miles per hunt, both boots leak around the toes. This is the perfect boot for spring turkey hunters if they can get the waterproofing issues fixed.

I have owned this pair for over a year and used them for multi-day trekking, hiking, scrambling and walking in the British/Scottish mountains. They offer great stability and protection on uneven grassy and boggy terrain with holes and soft ground. The boots are very comfortable and didn't need any break-in time.
Although the waterproofing is excellent when crossing rivers or after many hours of rain, once the water goes higher than the uppers, it's over a week to dry them. While this is true for most waterproof boots they take over 3-5 days longer drying time than my other waterproof mountaineering boots.
The outers, while the leather looks slightly aged, are in a very good condition, the sole is starting to wear but they've done over 700 km mostly on rough ground.
My main concern is the grip on rock, especially wet rock, while I was happy with the soles on mud and grass they are very slippery on wet, let-alone snowy, rocks. Compared to other boots I've owned/tried this has the least grip on wet rocks. Also the 4D chassis feels less stiff now and bends really easily on rocky edges providing no support.
I don't take them on mountains where I expect wet rocks anymore, but they're still my favorite boot for grassier/muddier wet walks in general, I'd only recommend them if you know you won't be going on wet rocky terrain.

Bought these boots a little bit ago and have covered a bit over 30 miles after breaking them in. In the short time I've had them, they've been great. Break in period took a little longer than other boots I've had, but I've got flat feet so that could be the cause. Other than that, when my boots get completely soaked (Part of a hike involved a knee deep creek crossing) then they take more than a day to dry, even with the insoles removed. Putting them in the sun isn't an option for me because boots in the past have worn out quicker than expected due to extended and direct UV exposure during drying, so I'm drying at room temperature. The drying trucks are great, but in the field, they aren't an option most of the time. That being said, these boots didn't cause any extra serious discomfort to me while hiking in them while they were soaked. I'm leaning closer to 4 stars than 3 in this review.

Had these boots for a while now and overall have been very happy, but the seem to retain water, and take an age to dry out. These are the first boots I haven't worn out before they
failed. Not help full two week before leaving for Nepal

I swore by these hiking boots to anyone whoever asked me. I first bought Salomon boots over 5 years ago and fell in love with the product. That was until a year or two when they changed the tread pattern on the bottom of the boot. I am always inspecting my hiking boots (average hike for me 8-10 miles) whenever I am done for the day. I noticed the tread on the new boots was being tore off on jagged rocks and normal trail wear. So I do love the design of the overall boot, however, the new tread pattern and quality is extremely disappointing. I wish a product would stay the same if it is functioning flawlessly before a design change was wanted to appease the market.

This is the third pair of 4D 3 GTX and they seem very different from the other 2 pairs I've had. The toe box is a little bigger and definitely warmer in the toes. They seem to keep heat in and my feet are warmer even on cool days. Not sure what the difference is from my other 2 pairs but they are definitely a different feel and fit.

I'm finishing up on my 2nd pair of these and debating a third. The fit, support, and light weight are great, but on both pairs, the goretex liner starts to leak way before the upper and/or sole are ready for retirement. Both pairs started leaking at about the 2 year mark, the first pair a little, and the current, 2nd, pair a lot. If I do get a third pair, I'm going to make darn sure I return them the minute they start to leak, rather than tolerate a leaking until it's too late to use the warranty. Still, warranty or no, this shouldn't be an issue, especially on boots this expensive.

The sole on this boot is not as durable as the older model. Large pieces of the sole broke off on my first hike. However, Salomons warranty is awesome and they replaced the boots.

Extremely comfortable shoe but unfortunately they do not hold up for long... after wearing for only two months they are splitting/cracking at every seam. Very disappointing for the amount of money spent.

The QUEST sole split apart one inch in from the outer area in the fore foot. I wore five days on duty when this happened. The terrain I work in is harsh and rugged. I heard great things about these boots but was disappointed in it's durability.
Pros:
Comfort is outstanding. I give it a 10 for that.
Support is great on the ankle, heal, arch, and forefoot. 10. Best boot I've worn is that regard.
Performance is great. The grip it has going up and down mountains was better than expected. 10
At the end of the day that's boots offer great protection and reduce fatigue on joints. 10
Good looking boot as well. 10.
Cons:
Durability was a disappointment. Get a 1. Five days on duty and didn't hold up.

The boots I was wearing for 2 years finally developed a hole in the toe. They cost about 1/8 of these Quest 4D 3's. Switching to the Quests, the main differences I noted were in the Ortholite soles and grip around the ankles.

I normally wear a 14. Put these on, they killed my feet and I was just sitting down. Otherwise, seemed to be a great boot. If they come in 15 I'll try again.

This is my fourth pair of these boots. The previous 3 pairs were absolutely spot on out of the box. These latest ones feel different somehow, almost half a size too big, despite me using the same sock combinations. Such a shame.
I did find that all my pairs only last about a year before they begin to leak.
