There is something wrong with this updated version of the New Balance 680, the elastic "laces" are way too big for the shoes and bunch up, they don't get stretched to hold the foot in at all when it is on the foot. At first I thought I just received a defective pair, but I had ordered 4 pairs of this style in various colors sizes for my kids and they all have this problem. The only thing holding the kids' feet in is the velcro ankle strap, which isn't going to provide enough support for growing feet. Now that I'm looking at the online image here you can actually see the laces are gaping at the top lace hole, and even a wide foot would not be wide enough to engage the elastic. Too bad, we've been buying the 680s for the last few seasons and will have to find something else.

These shoes are nice looking, but as some other people have commented. The elastic that replaces the shoelaces is just not tight enough. My son has wide feet but even for him the elastic is loose so they only thing holding him into the shoe and providing some support is the velcro on top. I am returning.

They look great and fit well (nice and wide) except that the elastic laces are so loose that they don't do much. I'm concerned they will be too loose as my son runs in them. Shoes poor craftsmanship. Fix the laces and I'll buy lots of these over the next few years. My son has wide feet and he liked they way these fit, which is rare.

Very disappointed in quality. My son has gently used these shoes (last pic to show wear of the rest of the shoe) and the toe on the left shoe has totally fallen apart. It looks like the stitching has come apart and the shoe is totally open at the toe. Lots of life left in the rest of the shoes, but how do you wear them like this? If I bought at Nordstrom I would be returning... unfortunately with Zappos I paid $53 for a pair of shoes for a 3 year old to wear periodically for 3 months and then fall apart.

My 5 year old Son has wide fit and it’s hard to find cute shoes for his feet. He absolutely loved these and said he could finally move his toes! Very happy with this purchase.

My hubs and i love new balance so it pains me to write this review. Within 2 weeks the stitching came undone on both pairs we bought for our boys

My son has wide feet. New balance makes good quality shoes in varying widths that my son says are comfortable. His last pair of New Balance shoes lasted a year. When it was time for a new pair, my son asked me to buy him the same shoes again.

It's look like picture but! Too easy to broke. I bought it to my 5 years old son and he only wore them 2 months, I start to see it rip off on the front! Not worth $50

The quality of these shoes was not what it should have been. We bought them President's Day Weekend, and my son started wearing them right away. He is not typically rough on shoes. By the 20th of March, the front pleather began separating from the fabric. They weren't the only pair of shoes he was wearing during that time, either. The worst part is that the other than the separation, the rest of the shoe looks pretty new.

We are true New Balance fans for my son who has wide feet and requires a custom orthotic insert. New Balance soles are removable and our orthotic guy uses those as a template for each orthotic made. They hold up well to the wear and tear that is endured on them for 3-4 months before we buy the next size up!

My son has long skinny feet and these shoes have done great! They have held up for 6 months no problem and we love New Balance!

I always wait until we've had several months of wear time before reviewing kids' shoes. These are fantastic. My son has a wide foot with low arches and now complains that none of his shoes are as comfortable as these. The soles have held up great and are only just starting to wear. I will be ordering more!

This sneaker lasted us an entire year without falling apart! My son ONLY likes sneakers (no sandals or slides in the summer), so he literally wore these every day, everywhere, including school. His feet apparently don't grow very fast because it's a full year later and he's just now telling me they feel a little tight. Other than looking a little worn (we got them in grey), they held up. No holes or anything. We just ordered another pair in a bigger size.

The fit was perfect - my seven year old told me these were his most comfortable sneakers...

The elastic bands laces give just enough for my son to slip these on but they still hold snug and the velcro at the top just makes it that much more snug. My boys love new balance it's all they wear but my oldest was set on blue shoes so when we found these vibrant blue new balance shoes we knew he'd love them! He was so happy! And the fact that they were on sale made me very happy! Thanks again zappos for making shoe shopping a breeze!

My son loved these shoes and wore them until he outgrew them. Then I bought another pair.

This is a beautiful little shoe. My grandson wore them immediately with no complaints. The stretchy laces with velcro closure make it an easy on and off. The wide width is great for active, growing feet. And they are cute!

I bought these for my 8 year old grandson. He wore them to school today for the first time. He said they felt great and he could run faster than everyone else! It's wonderful to be able to find good looking shoes in a wide width. Thank you Zappos.

I really like these shoes for my active little boy. They have held up well in the washing machine, and still look great even with pretty heavy wear. Cute style, comfy, and durable- couldn’t ask for more. Wish they came in more colors.

My son loves these shoes! They feel nice and it's great that they are wide width! He also has a high arch and so his foot is kind of tall. These fit him perfectly!

My son likes the shoes and finds them easy to put on by himself. No need to tie the laces. Hold up well in basketball practices and games.
