The 574 was my goto sneaker for a long time. My shoe size is 11.5 double wide. The last order made two years ago required that I needed to upsize the shoe a half size to 12 in order to get the same fit. The quality of the last order was OK, not stellar, as was the first 574 I bought a long, long time ago. The current version is really bad. Sloppy stitching, paper thin tongue, and appears to come in one width (D), regardless of how the shoe is labeled. The tongue tag says 12 2E but when I hold the shoe up to may last pair, it is 11.5 D. So for someone ordering a D width, you may like this shoe as there are positive comments. For wide feet like mine, look elsewhere. So, I sent the size 12 2E back and ordered a 13 EE, just hoping to keep my 574 legacy alive. So the size 13 shoe was long enough, but was width = D in spite of it being marked 2E. I know this because when I holding the new shoe against my last order, placed two years ago, it was much narrower, plus the size 13 shoe as missing the insoles, so back these shoes went as well. Good-by 574s, it was a good run (pun intended) but I am hoping the fresh foam new balances and especially the 990 appear to be the new balance quality I remember. Plus the 990 is made in the USA. Based on what I read of the other reviews, it appears that new balance is having quality control issues when they offshore their work. I am chalking this up to very poor quality management on New Balances' part when exporting work.
I'd also recommend:
Try the New Balance 990 instead of the 574.

I wanted to like these shoes. And I did, a lot, until the left shoe failed after 7 weeks of light daily walking, no running, jogging or other intensive uses. Left shoe failed at the ball of the foot, inside. Leather material appears to have simply ripped right at the bond to the sole. (See attached picture.) At 7 weeks use that's about $11.50 per week. Pretty poor for a supposedly premium brand shoe.
Worse, while I wanted to contact NB about this before writing a bad review, I can find no way to do so. There is no mention anywhere on their website for customer support or product problems. Not at all impressed.

This shoe was supposed to be x-wide but it isn't nearly as wide as the other x-wide I bought at the same time (or last year). Ridiculous. If you can't make them all the same, give them different names (descriptions). Now, I'm using shoe stretchers on them but, that may not work for these slender slippers.

I wore these shoes 4 times, and by the fourth time the top tore beside the shoe laces. I have contacted New Balance by email and text with no response at all. I am very disappointed in this shoe and the response from the company.

SEEMS DEFECTIVE. SON WORE LAST 574 CORE UNTIL SOLES WORE OUT. THIS PAIR TORE WITHIN 10 DAYS DOING EXACT SAME ACTIVITIES. WROTE TO NEW BALANCE AND HAVEN'T HEARD BACK. WAS RESISTING WRITING THE REVIEW BECAUSE THOUGHT WOULD REMEDY. HAVE ALWAYS LIKE THEIR PRODUCTS. BASICALLY WAS STILL WAITING BUT GOT EMAIL PROMPTING REVIEW. MAYBE IT WAS JUST ONE PAIR. THEY DO LOOK DIFFERENT THAN THE PREVIOUS 574 CORE HE HAD.

I recently ordered some 574s, which I've worn religiously for many years. I usually have no problem with the product, but one of these shoes has starting splitting at the sole significantly after only one month of wear--not even daily wear.

I used this to go to the mall one day, drive the other day and a night at home and lower part of sole is loose at this point (on both shoes!!, see attached picture). I cant return them bc I'm in costa rica. This is very sad New Balance , I used to love this 574 shoes

I've worn extra wide New Balance sneakers for the past 30 years. But these that I ordered for my size were way too small and tight to be of any use. ALSO, the material quality felt cheap, far from the quality of my previous NB sneakers. So, I had little choice but to return them for a prompt refund. Instead, I tried a pair from Propet, same size, but this time the fit was perfect and very comfortable. They were $10- more than the NB's, but the material quality and design of the Propet's was way better than the current NB's. So, if you have problems with your feet (edema, diabetes, etc.) or just need really wide sneakers, I would suggest you consider Propet (instead of New Balance).

These shoes were deformed on the toe on the left shoe and fit like two different sizes. I returned them.
The return policy is awful, making you wait for weeks, after they receive it back to the warehouse with no notification of the status, for a refund.
I will never buy from the New Balance on line store again as the products appear to be cheap China knockoffs and return service is outrageous.

I needed it for work as a nurse. Shows were very uncomfortable and rubbed on right side. Seems like they needed time to be broken into...time that I didn't have. I needed comfortable shoes throughout my 12 shift as a floor nurse. I do a lot of walking during my shift.

I purchased a pair of these online in 4E width, but they were so small width wise I could not wear them. I am a long time NB customer and have and continue to wear the 577, 877 as well as the Breeze and Sweeper golf shoes in the same size and width. However, these actually measured a half inch narrower than any of the shoes I currently wear. I contacted NB by e-mail and phone and they indicated that the shoes were not mismarked and most likely could run small. If you really need a 4E width, I would suggest these are not for you. Otherwise, a very attractive shoe that I would have liked to wear. Unfortunately, I can't give a good rating for a shoe so off size wise that it can't be worn.

I bought a pair of size 14 and they fit too small, so I returned them, it's been a week and still no email about or refund for the shoes I sent back, I still might buy another pair a size larger but only if I get my money back, hopefully this year.
